Leila sat in her English lecture doodling on her pad and occasionally nibbling on her pencil. Normally she would of loved her english lecture with Professor Collins, it was about all the most famous authors, but today all she could think about was how Vitus had left her alone in the dark, over a week ago and hadn't even looked back at her. She tried to push the thoughts out of her mind, she knew it was her own fault, she had wanted him to go, she had asked him to leave and never speak to her again. He had asked her to get on his bike and she had said no. He had respected her wishes, she should of been happy, thankful even, but instead she felt dejected.
The noise of packing bags and rummaging students, awoke Leila from her daydream. She looked at her pad and sighed, there were hundreds of little and big V's scribbled all over it, she closed it and put her half eaten pencil into the case and zipped up her bag.
It was dark when she got outside, a chilling breeze crept apon her making her tighten her coat around her tightly and hurry home.
When she got there a strange man was waiting infront of her door, Leila was just about to turn and walk away when the man spoke "Wait, I do not mean to harm you!" His russian accent was thick. But Leila could just about understand him. She held her keys between her fingers, knowing that she could protect herself with them, if she needed to. "I'm Aleksander, you are Leila" the man said. Leila nodded slowly. "You have helmet."
"Helmet?" Leila questioned, she knew which helmet the strange man meant, but she was not going to admit it. Vitus had given it to her and anyway how did 'Aleksander', if that was his real name, know that she had the helmet in the first place, she wondered.
"Vitus ask me to pick helmet up. Vitus my boss." The man said confidently.
Leila stared at the man taking him in, he could be part of Vitus' crew, she thought, he had a tear drop tattoo underneath his right eye, and his knuckles were also tattooed but she couldn't read what they said. Leila's gut stirred, her tummy hurt, she didn't know whether something was wrong about the strange man or whether is was just her sadness because Vitus had sent someone instead of coming himself.
"How do I know you're telling the truth?" Leila asked Aleksander carefully.
"He isn't." a familiar voice sounded behind her. Leila jumped. She turned around and sucked in a breath. Vitus was stood right there, an inch away from her. "Leila get behind me." He breathed into her ear. Leila obeyed. "Sergey what are you doing here?" Vitus asked calmly. The man grinned, "I think you mean Aleksander."
"I don't care what you call yourself. Answer my question!" Vitus spat angrily.
Leila didn't understand the rest of the short conversation as they changed into a language of which she guessed was Russian.
After a few short sentences, something moving in the corner behind Sergey caught Leila's eye. "Watch out there's more men!" She whispered to Vitus. Vitus nodded subtly to show her that he had heard her and gestured toward the ground with his hidden hand. Leila understood the hint and crouched down to the ground, acting as if her legs were tired.
"Your girl giving up so easy" Sergey provoked in English.
Before Vitus could react three armed men came out of the shadows pointing their guns at Vitus.
Vitus laughed unconcerned, "I wouldn't do that if I was you!" He joked.
The four men looked at each other, what did he mean?!
Vitus pointed to Sergey's forhead.
"B-b-b-oss theres a laser point on your head" Leila heard one of the men say with an English accent.
After a silent pause, several gun shots sounded and Leila covered her head and ears with her hands and arms.
After a while she felt someone tugging on her arm. She looked up. "Leila, come with me" a man was saying, Leila recognised him as one of Vitus' bodyguards. Slowly she stood up and looked around. Leila wretched and held her stomach. There were dead bodies, bleeding bodies everywhere. She started to shake. "Get her out of here" Vitus ordered loudly from further away. The bodyguared threw Leila over his shoulder and carried her towards her house, he took the key from her hands and walked inside.
"Which floor" he demanded to know, shutting the door firmly behind him. "T-t-top" Leila stammered in a daze. The bodyguard marched up the stairs with her as if she didn't weigh a thing, then he set her down and gave her her key. "Open the door." The bodyguard ordered. Leila obeyed silently.
He pushed Leila aside softly and walked in holding is gun out infront of him. He walked through the main room and into the bathroom, then he packed his gun back into his coat and walked back to Leila. "All clear, you can come in." Leila walked in and perched on the edge of her couch, she felt like a stranger in her own home. The bodyguard closed the door and stood next to it his hands clasped into frint of him, as if he were guarding it.
"Maybe you should pack a bag with your stuff" the bodyguard suggested. Leila frowned, "why would I need to do that?" she asked reluctantly. "Incase anything else happens, it's always better to be prepared." He answered nicely.
Leila got up and slowly walked over to her wardrobe, she took out a suitcase and placed all of her important belongings inside, she zipped it up and was just about to take it back to the couch when there was a knock on the door. "84 hdv" a male voice said outside. "Prove it." The bodyguard said, then the person outside proceeded to knock eight times, scratch 4 times and cough twice and then twice again.
The guard opened the door, in came two men and Vitus between them.
"What happened to you?" Leila gasped and ran over to him, his clothes were torn, his nose was bleeding and his eye was starting to swell. "I'll explain later, you need to pack and then we need to get you out of here." Vitus said urgently.
"I already have, your bodyguard told me too." Leila pointed to her bag and Vitus stood up.
One of his men picked up the bag and starting walking towards the door, Vitus followed him, Leila hung back.
"Come on! We need to go!" Vitus barked
Tears shot into Leila's eyes and she wiped them away quickly, but not quick enough for Vitus not to notice. Vitus walked over to her. He softened his tone and looked into Leilas eyes "I know this is alot to take in. I do. But we really need to leave now." He stretched out his hand and took Leila's into his leading her out of the door. Leaving the other two bodyguards to follow. Just before the ground floor Leila stopped "my books! My laptop! I can't study without them" she exclaimed and started ascending back up the stairs. Vitus held on to her hand. "Leila, we're leaving. We can get those things another time." He said strongly. The first man opened the door, Vitus turned to Leila, "Can you do something for me?" He asked, Leila looked up into his icy blue eyes, she nodded "mmhh?"
"I'm going to pick you up now, just like that time in the restaurant, and I need you to close your eyes and keep them closed untill I tell you to open them." Leila nodded.
Vitus swooped her up into his arms, he felt Leila stiffen but she closed her eyes just as agreed. Vitus cradled Leila warmly in his arms as the smell of her sweet hair, filled his nose. He tried not to get distracted as he didn't want to slip whilst stepping over the bodies and weapons which layed scattered around the house. Just as he was about to get into the car, which was waiting for them, he felt Leila relax in his arms.
Vitus got into the car, the door was shut and he still held Leila tightly.
When the car started to move, he asked her to open her eyes.
Leila blinked a few times and looked up, straight into Vitus' eyes, he stroked her cheek, her breath hitched, Vitus bent his head down and placed his lips onto hers, kissing her gently. Leila accepted his kiss willingly. For a few seconds the world around them seemed to disappear.
