Chapter 58: What makes him think they are so special?

1490 Words
"They must be here, right?" Agent Brook couldn't help but worry over the two students.  Agent Brook and Agent Kleio were looking for them on the first floor; checking room for room, asking passing students and teachers for any information about their whereabouts, but had crossed against nothing about the two. Agent Kleio remained silent, undeniably questioning the two students' safety.  Agent Brook felt like the world was crashing down each time they entered an empty classroom. Brook was the most worried, honestly speaking. Firstly, his nephew was missing. The one person his brother left him to take care of was gone and he had no idea about how to look for him. Second, Sage was like a niece to him. The day Sage joined their little circle, the time when he was told about her past, the moment he saw the female's eyes- he was determined to protect her no matter what. "We"ll find them. We always do," Agent Kleio suddenly said, earning him a heartful nod from the other.  Meanwhile, Agent Dionne can't help but see the different waves of emotions about the male student she's with. The shift from hope to disappointment in every room entry with no signs of the missing students, to the agitated and anxious gestures in every look.  "They're not here," Agent Dionne said, opening the last classroom door on the third floor.  Styx grunted, he was so close to breaking down. He blamed himself for everything. Daexoen's disappearance sure wasn't his but Sage's could have been. He leaned on the wall with his forearm, placing his forehead on top of it.  "This is my fault," he started to blame himself, "I shouldn't- I shouldn't have said those to Sage."  Vienna approached the older male, "You're really going to have a breakdown right now?" she said, rolling her eyes. "We're still looking for them. Uncle Kleio and Brook are looking at the first two floors. We have one more floor to check. Fix yourself," she coldly said.  Vienna was still very upset with Styx for saying harsh things to Sage, but she was also worried about him. He was alone right now without any of the two, he must have felt lost for a moment.  Agent Dionne couldn't help but intervene, "I'm sorry, but why is Sage missing?" she asked, causing the two to look at her. "When we called, you said she was with you but now she's missing. What happened?" Agent Dionne asked, wholesomely confused at the female's disappearance. The two went quiet. Styx was avoiding looking at the agent while Vienna was looking at the male, "We- got into a fight," Styx admitted.  The agent frowned, "Fight?"  Seeing as the male was hesitant to speak she decided to continue on, " Styx, said some harsh words to her.” Agent Dionne looked at the regretful teen, “And you think that’s why she just left?” The two nodded in response.  “I shouldn’t have said those things. She must have been so upset,” Styx confessed, constantly voicing his regrets.  Agent Dionne gave out a chuckle which seemed to irritate the male a little, “I think you’re giving yourself a bit more credit than you think,”  she suddenly said.  The male instantly looked at her with angry eyes, “What did you say?” he asked, gnawing his teeth in rage.  “Sage doesn’t get offended by that, you know,” She said, causing the male to ball his hands into a tight fist. “She doesn’t comprehend emotions that well. More likely she got bored waiting or decided to look for him on her own–” The agent didn’t finish her words because of the male’s action.  Styx punched the wall he was previously leaning on, “You have no right to invalidate her,” he said, emphasizing his sentence word for word.  The agent was caught off guard by the male’s reaction, “What? You don’t really think she values your friendship?” she asked, genuinely confused about the male’s sudden take of heart. “I don’t know if you know this, but Sage isn’t the brightest with her emotions. She’s like a straight line, if you’re at a corner she’ll never see you,” she said, walking past the male to head towards the staircase.  Vienna stood there in shock, unable to know what she could possibly do or say to ease the thick and heavy tension between them. She was offended for the female student. This made Vienna see the female agent in a different color.  Styx didn’t like how the agent described his female friend. If the agent told him this 2 months ago, then he would have totally agreed with her. But with everything now, Sage was finally growing out of that phase. Although she’s not truly there yet, she’s been trying to at least notice some things. And hearing this bullshit from the agent, discrediting her efforts made Styx burn with anger. But at the same time, he felt guilt wash over him. He was angry at the agent for discrediting the younger’s minimal efforts when he, in the first place, was the first one to question her.  “You don’t know anything about her ,” the male student suddenly said, making the female agent turn back towards him. “What?” the agent asked, obviously offended by the male student’s words. “I’ve known her since she was a kid. You've only known her a few months ago,” she said, mocking the male’s previous response.  “Like you said,” Styx said, walking up to the female agent, stopping in front of her with a harsh and determined look. “You knew who she was, not who she is,” he said, walking past the agent with Vienna right behind her.  The agent was frozen in place. Did she really not know her anymore? But then she remembered everyone who tried and everyone who failed miserably. Sage was a dominant female, someone who would never change herself. She wasn’t like this to them, she never even cried for her parents. What makes him think they are so special? Daexoen was now standing in front of the person who had just found him. He felt like the light coming from the hall was light from heaven, finally being able to leave. But what he didn’t expect was the tight arms and warm body pressed against his and the cold tears falling onto his shirt.  “Sage? What’s wrong?” he gently asked the female.  Daexoen was caught off guard. This was the first time he saw the female cry. He was beyond worried, of course, but at the same time he felt a little glad she was opening up to them. He caressed her back and head. Humming as he sways them side to side.  “Sage, what’s wrong? You can tell me.” The female let go of their embrace, facing the male with obvious puffy red eyes, “I- I was worried,” she finally admitted, tears continuing to flow down her cheeks. “I thought they got you.” The male smiled, wiping the flowing tears, “I’m fine, you’re okay,” he comforted the female. “Where’s Styx?” he asked, noticing the absence of his other friend.  Sage lowered her head, recalling the previous argument they had. She didn’t understand why there were tears that just kept falling, and why she was feeling this undesirable feeling. “We had a fight,” she admitted, catching the male off guard.  “What happened?” he asked.  Before Sage could speak, they heard a call from the east side of the corridor, “Dae!? Sage!?” The duo looked to their right, seeing the exhausted Styx watching them.  Styx ran towards them, catching the two in a tight embrace. Worry, anxiousness, guilt and fear were all washed off of Styx and replaced with relief as he could finally hold the two people he'd been searching for.  Agent Dionne and Vienna were a few meters away from them. Vienna felt the exact same relief Styx felt seeing her annoying cousin and their female friend. She smiled at the little gathering the three made, touched by the bond and friendship they had.  Agent Dionne, on the other hand, was shocked to see the ease and comfortability the female student was in between the hug of the two males. She thought the female would pull away, deny their affection, but it wasn’t the case. Was she actually enjoying it?  She stood there frozen, “You see. Their friendship isn’t as fragile as yours,” she heard Vienna say beside her.  She balls her hands into a fist, “She changed. How? What’s so special about them?” She asked herself, continuing to watch the heartwarming interaction between the three friends. “How come they have you?”
