Chapter 56: I'm trying

1216 Words
Vienna couldn't help but gag over the way Olive was continuing to drool over the guy she was talking to. Ever since her first day in Deviox, Olive keeps mentioning the guy every chance she gets.  "V! Are you listening?" Olive called to her, snapping her out of her thoughts. Vienna really didn't like lying to her best friend, but at the same time she dreaded the ongoing conversation about the mysterious guy.  Guilty Vienna decided to end their conversation, "Look, Olive, I need to go look for Daexoen. I promised him we'd go home together," she reasoned out, trying to excuse herself. "Oh, Alright. I'll see you tomorrow then?" The other said, waving farewell to her best friend.  Vienna sighed. Although it was an excuse, she thought it would be better to talk to her cousin about her worries. Words got to her about their group's work, and although she trusts her friend she still has a bad feeling about this.  By the end of classes, Sage and Styx were waiting for Daexoen by the school gates, but patience wasn’t really something they had.  “Where the hell is he?” Styx grunted again in frustration, walking back and forth in front of Sage, “It’s almost 4 and he’s still not out,” he said again, slumping down on the bench beside Sage.  Sage looked at her watch as well, it was indeed near 4 pm. They haven’t seen nor heard from the other male.  Sage looked at Styx, “Should we check his last class? He might still be there,” she suggested, earning a loud yes from the other student before standing up to go back to the college department.  Halfway to the college department, the two were silently walking towards one of Daexoen’s last period classes, which Styx was 100% sure was with Mr. Martin.  “Styx! Sage!” The two turned around to see Vienna. “Have you seen Daexoen? I need to talk to him about things."  "Actually, that's why we're here as well. We haven't seen him since lunch," Styx said. Before anyone could open their mouth, someone called out to them, “Hey wait!”  They turn around to see a male student running up to them, “You’re Sage and Styx, right? Daexoen’s friends?” he asked, causing the two to look at each other confusedly. “Yeah. We are,” Styx answered, still cautious about the male in front of them. "Why?"  The latter handed him a bag and a jacket, “He left this in the room,” the male said, digging out a phone from his pocket before handing it to Sage. “He left his phone too.” The two looked at it, confused as to why the male had their friend’s things, especially his phone. Something wasn’t right and it started to bother the two.  “Why do you have these? Where is he?” Styx asked the male in front of them, worried and panic was now evident in his eyes.  "Styx calm down," Vienna told the older, holding onto his arm.  The other male looked at them, confused at their sudden reaction, “He’s not with you? He just disappeared after 1 period in the afternoon. He left his things, we thought you guys had something coming up, so we didn’t bother thinking of something wrong.”  Sage and Styx looked at each other worriedly. Something was definitely going on. The two thanked the male, who immediately left.  “What are we going to do?” Styx asked in a panic. “Why isn’t he here on campus?”  “I don’t know,” Sage said calmly. “Calm down Styx, We need to think this through,” she tried to relax the other, but it seemed it wasn’t helping.  “Daexoen’s gone and you’re  saying we should stay calm?!" Styx's tone raised as well as his anxiety. His heart palpitated with every bad thought running through his mind.  Vienna doesn't know what to do, unaware of everything they've truly been through.  Styx saw Daexoen's supposed last period teacher, rushing to the man like a mad person. "Mr. Martin!" he called out to the teacher.  "How can I help you?" The teacher asked, knowing quite well who the other two were. "Did Daexoen attend your class?" He asked.  The teacher frowned, "No, I thought he was with you."  Styx felt his anger raised. He looked at the teacher with raging eyes, frustrated as to why no one noticed anything.  "Your student could have been kidn*pped and you didn't know anything!?" He shouted at him, catching the remaining students' attention.  Daexoen, on the other hand, was having quite a boring time stuck in the room for about 3 hours.  "HELLO!!" He yelled again.  He held onto his throat, feeling the dryness and soreness as he'd been yelling for help since the time he'd been stuck there.  He sighed as he leaned onto the storage room door.  "Seriously? No one found me yet?" he muttered to himself, looking around the room for something that could help him get out, but just like the couple of times he'd been doing so, there was nothing much the room had for him.  He checked his watch grunting, seeing that it was already 3, meaning everyone must have gone home by now.  He sighed, "I hope they find me." The tension between the three students and the teacher was high. If looks could kill, Styx would have been charged with murder.  Vienna held onto Styx's arm, "Styx." "I thought you three were up to something. I didn't know-" The teacher couldn't finish his sentence as the angered student marches off to who knows where.  "Styx calm down, we need to think carefully," Sage tried to reason out to the male.  He turns to her with furry eyes, "Calm down?! Daexoen is nowhere to be found and you want me to calm down!?"  Vienna tried to intervene, "We can't really find him if we're all impulsive!"  "Shut up! You know nothing!" He yelled at the youngest female. "And you!" He turned to Sage, pointing at her. "Our friend is missing and you act like this is some kind of freaking case!"  Sage remained silent, unable to process the scene in front of her. It was something she never thought could happen.  "Styx! You're seriously not blaming Sage?!" Vienna scolded the male. However, the male ignored her, "Daexoen could have been kidn*pped by the killer! Do you understand that?!" He held the female's shoulders, applying pressure.  "Styx, have you gone mad!" Vienna tried to pry him off but he wouldn't budge. "For once Sage!  Daexoen's gone and you're not even worried! Aren't you smart enough to know that!?" He harshly told her. "Styx! You've gone too far!" Vienna yelled. Styx looked at Sage's eyes, realizing everything he had just said. He let go of her,  "At least try feeling some empathy," he said, more calmly this time, before storming off.  Vienna didn't know what to do, "Sage, it's-" she tried to hold her but the other moved away. Vienna smiled at her weakly before following Styx.  Sage stood there frozen, "I'm trying, Styx. I really am," she muttered as a tear fell down her cheek.
