Chapter 28: Her smile

The three went toward Sage’s aunt at the vacant room she and the other visitors and patients were in. When they entered the room they immediately found her sitting by the far corner of the room. The moment she saw them she gave out a sigh of relief. The two slowly sat Styx down on a chair next to her aunt, before comfortably settling down themselves. Sage's Aunt looked at them with worry, “Are you three alright? Why did you have to stay there?” She asked them. "We're fine Auntie just had a quick conversation with the agents" her niece answered. “Why are we still here? Can’t we go out already?” A girl started to complain. She was by the middle part of the room, her arms crossed on her chest. “I need to go home,” Another one said. Everyone in the room started to make a fuss, everybody was starting to complain. Say that they wanted to go home and how they were all tired of staying there. They didn’t know why the agents weren’t allowing them to go. It was too noisy for the three, it was getting irritating. With their patience running by a thread the three couldn't help but grunt at the people, "Can you all just shut up and wait for the agents to let you out?!" Daexoen angrily shouted. Everyone went quiet for a short while but it didn’t last long when a guy suddenly screamed back at him. He points at the other, “Just because you don’t care doesn’t mean we don't!” He refuted. Another one stood beside the first guys, “Just because you know one of the agents you can’t just boss us around.” the other said. The female had about the last straw. “Enough! I have had it with your selfish and irritating mouths. You want to leave? You want to go to your families? Fine.” Sage angrily stood up and went to the door and pushed it open. The two guys were speechless looking at her. It was their first time seeing the female burst with anger. They admit it wasn’t something to be happy about but they were. They were glad to see her standing up and actually telling other people how she feels. It wasn’t supposed to be such a big achievement, but for them it was. She stood upon the opened doors, "Get out. But I am warning you the reason why we're under quarantine right now is because the reason why that girl got killed is because of a poison that they suspected can be transmitted by contact or within a 3 feet radius to the body. We're locked in here because they need to figure out if you're infected or not. But if you want to leave and go to your families and infect them then get out! Because I could care less if every one of you was caught dead in front of me." she coldly said. Everyone stayed silent. Nobody moved. They were all suddenly scared, scared that what the teenager said would be true. They were afraid for themselves as well as for their family. The male raised an eyebrow seeing no one moved an inch, “What happened? I thought you wanted to leave? Where is all that bravery and brawn? How dramatic can you all be? You haven’t even been locked up for an hour but you’re treating it as if it’s been days. We’re giving you a chance to leave.” Styx taunted. The female student sighed at them, "As I've said you want to leave? Then go, I could care less who you'd infect on your way out or if you die. But if you want to stay then sit down and shut the hell up." Sage then went back to her seat, ignoring the frightened expressions the people were giving. As the youngest settled down between the two, Daexoen leaned in. "I didn't know the poison could be transmitted," Daexoen whispered to her. Loud enough for only the three of them to hear but not too loud for the others. The youngest stared blankly at him, "It can't, I just said that so they would shut up and sit down" She answered. The two male gave a short chuckle, "You're really a genius" Styx whispered back. The female then looked at them with a somewhat shy expression, “I’m sorry for the sudden burst of emotions I just didn’t like the noise, and-” Daexoen cut her off before she could continue. “Hey, it’s fine. We all get irritated” He comforted her, giving her a slight nudge on the shoulder and a warm smile. Styx placed an arm around the youngest's shoulder, “And hey! At least I got to see you burst with rage” he tried to joke. However, the three failed to remember Sage's aunt in the same room as they were, witnessing the little argument the three had with the other patients. “Sage, you said it was contagious. You three stayed there for quite a long time. Will you be okay?” Her aunt asked her. The three looked at each other before leaning towards her aunt, “Auntie, I was just bluffing.” she whispered to her aunt, who gave her a surprised expression. The two males gave her an apologetic smile, “We’re fine Ma'am.” Daexoen added. The older woman gave them a friendly smile, "Please call me Auntie." She instructed before looking towards the eldest male. "Styx how about you? You can’t walk properly, are you alright?" she asked him. "I'm fine, please don’t worry” Styx answered. Sage held her Aunt's elbow, "We're good Auntie. We just had a little talk with the agents, nothing too serious." Sage reassured her. Hyuna sighed in relief, silently observing the three teens as they began to talk amongst themselves once again. She couldn't help but look at her niece specifically. She felt her heart warm with the three's interaction, seeing the amused expression her niece had as she delved into the conversation with the two older male. And then something she never expected to see happened. Her eyes were heating up, threatening her tears to fall down her cheeks. It was something she'd never saw for the past 3 years, and something that she would rarely saw ever since the youngest was born. It was the littlest thing anyone should have cared about but for her it was worth than her entire lifetime. It was the curve of her heart shaped lips that reached the height of her eyes, how her teeth peeked out and how her cheekbones pop out. Her smile, although little, was beautiful. But what made the tears start to flow to her cheeks were the bright sparkle from Sage's eyes. It wasn't anything extraordinary to most people, honestly it wasn't as bright as others were but for Hyuna it was the brightest the youngest ever showed. For the first time, her eyes were filled with light. "Auntie? Is something wrong?" Sage asked, tilting her head with confusion. Hyuna immediately wiped the tears on her cheeks before giving the younger a smile, "Nothing. Must have been dust,” she answered. "Oh, You should wash your face later then" Sage added before turning back towards the two male. However, the three never got to continue their conversation as the doors of the room opened, "Sorry to keep you all waiting, we are dealing with the case right now. We need you to answer some questions before we let you go" The newly arrived agent Brook said followed behind him was Agent Kleio and two more agents. The Agents then gather the people in the middle of the room. "Did any of you notice a guy with glasses and a hat?" Agent Kleio asked, interrogating each one of them. “I just arrived at the lobby, I didn’t notice him” one guy answered, who was then dismissed by the two. Same question was asked to the next person, “I was calling someone so I didn’t notice him--” Surprisingly, the man was cut off by Daexoen, “Liar” He intervened. “And how can you say I’m lying?!” The guys angrily asked as he pointed at Daexoen. Everyone was exchanging their focus towards the three and the accused man, "The way you're pointing to him with your right hand indicates you're a right-handed person. When you were explaining something you saw, you looked up then to your right indication you were lying. A normal right-handed person when asked to recall what he or she saw would look up then to the left where his/her memory recollection is, but when lying you trigger your brain to subconsciously look to the right. You're also sweating. The temperature in this room is less than 20 degrees so you shouldn't be experiencing any hotness or warmth. Sweat is also an indication of lying but it is also an indication of fear. You did see the man, you even noticed something from him, but you're too afraid to tell the agents either he saw you as well and threatened you or you saw something with him that scared you and possibly in danger your life."  Sage intervened, as she slowly walked up to the accused man. The man froze on his spot, fear was now clearly evident in his face as he points towards the youngest, "H-how-" "Let's not ask questions to each other. Better answer truthfully this time. Know that what you are doing is against the law." Sage said "What? What do you mean by against the law?" The accused guy asked. Sage sighed with the man's cluelessness, "You will be charged with lying to a federal agent and can also be accused of accessory after the fact." she explained. "Accessory after the fact?" Styx asked, confused at the female's words. Daexoen warms his arm around his friend, "A penalty for those who help the criminal escape or hide them. You may not have been part of the original crime but denying any knowledge of the criminal means you are helping him with escape in which you can also face criminal charges." He answered, loud enough for everyone in the room to hear. Purposely doing so for the accused man. The guy was shaking as he heard the two explain. He was afraid of the truth. Afraid of the things he knew and the things he could be charged for. He would either end up dead by the killer or arrested by the police. Everyone in the room was looking at him, waiting for his next move. Surprisingly, the guy was still hesitant to speak, "If I were you wouldn’t it be better to just confess to the police? You could just go with them to the police station so that you can talk in private if you’re afraid. If you’re scared to become the next victim then isn’t it better for them to know so they can put you under witness protection?” Styx tried to reason with the guy. The guy hangs his head in defeat, "F-fine. I know something" he quietly said. "Then we'll need you to talk at the station. As for everyone else you may leave. You three are you coming with us" Agent Brook said, gesturing towards the trio to follow as they exit the room. "Wait! We’re not going to die right?” a girl asked, causing the two head agents to look back to the people in the room. The two gave each other a confused look, "Huh?" Agent Kleio was confused with the sudden question. "She said that we might have been infected with whatever poison killed her," a guy said pointing towards a seemingly innocent Sage. Sage walks towards the agents, "I might have said some things to keep them quiet" Sage whispered. Thankfully, they understood the female's action, "We found out the poison wasn't contagious. You're all free to leave the hospital" Agent Brook said. Everyone cautiously left the room except for the trio and the female's aunt. Hyuna was contemplating to leave Sage here with them or take her home like she's supposed to. But her niece was determined to let her stay with the agents and her friends. "I'm with the boys and the agents. I'll be fine. Please go home and have a rest" she insisted. She sighed, "Daexoen, Styx I'll leave her under your care. Please look after her." she begged the two They nodded, "Of course Auntie," Daexoen said. "I'll go ahead and bring her things home. Take care of yourselves. Agents, I'll get going" she said before leaving the room as well. Fortunately, the car the agents brought was big enough for the five of them. Although the initial plan was to drive Styx and Kleio home before driving himself and Daexoen to theirs, they were now shifted to a trip to the station. They adjusted themselves into a single vehicle. The two agents by the front, Agent Kleio, was the one who insisted on driving, while the three sat at the back. Their luggage neatly placed in the trunk of the car. It wasn't spacious but fit enough for the five of them. The ride was quiet but not intimidating. The two agents were busy focusing on the road while the three tried to get as much rest as possible. It was a peaceful ride not until a call was received by Agent Brook. "Hello? This is Agent Brook" he answered. "Agent this is Agent Yres. I was in charge of interrogating Mr. Peter Ferestor, the suspect for the attempt bombing in Deviox Academy" he heard the other agent said. He raised an eyebrow, "What happened?" He asked, curious of the sudden call from the agent. He could feel the anxiousness coming from the person behind the call, "We were in the middle of an interrogation when he suddenly collapsed from his seat."
