Chapter 48: I'm Agent Dionne

1267 Words
The two agents looked at the stranger with a stern face. The stranger was looking at them more calmly, unafraid of the two guns pointed towards her. It was a female. She stood in the middle of the room. She had a more relaxed demeanor, something you wouldn’t see in someone who’s currently face to face with two guns.  “I’m Agent Dionne,” she calmly told the two. Slowly making her way in front of them, this action triggered the agents, instantly bringing up their guns again. “I’m your new partner in this case.”  The two slowly lowered their guns, they looked at her, puzzled at her sudden revelation. “Partner?” Agent Brook asked, looking at Agent Kleio,  “No one told us about a new partner.”  That being said, Agent Lucas suddenly entered the room. “Oh, you’re here.” He said to the two male agents. “Great. Guys, this is Agent Dionne. She’s been transferred from Gviere, specifically to help deal with this case.” Agent Lucas introduced the stranger.  “Help?” Agent Kleio asked, unpleased with the choice of words the agent used. “I’m sure we could handle this on our own.”  Agent Lucas sighed and approached the two, “I understand your frustration but the case is getting out of hand and the head office has decided to send us extra enforcement.”  Agent Brook raised an eyebrow, “A female?” he suddenly asked, earning a quick elbow to the gut from Agent Kleio. “Ouch!” he exclaimed, looking at the other with a nasty look, but the other agent just motioned to the female. “It’s not that we underestimate you, Agent Dionne. But like you said, Agent Lucas, this case is getting out of hand.” He immediately answered, realizing the harsh question he asked about the new agent’s gender. “I specialize in the Aviation unit in Gviere.” Agent Dionne suddenly answered, “My credentials are much wider than your agents.”  The two remained in silence. They have to admit, hearing the special unit the agent handled was truly admirable. And the case wasn’t in any grave progress either. The two looked at each other, still hesitant about this major adjustment. Honestly, they weren’t worried about themselves, but the idea of having the three adjust to a new person was concerning. They’ve known 2 out of 3 of those teens since they were infants, one in particular is the other’s father, and yet they still have trouble getting them to speak up.  Seeing the hesitant looks of the two agents, Agent Lucas tried to help persuade them. “You’ll need her in this case. Trust me.” He told them, words filled with so much confidence.  Seeing this, the two reluctantly agreed to the partnership. "Alright," Agent Brook said, turning his attention to the female agent. "I'm Agent Brook," he introduced himself before pointing towards Agent Kleio, "This is Agent Kleio. We're glad to have you in our team." he said, reaching out a hand towards the female. The other gave a warm smile before accepting the reached out hand in front of her, "I'm glad to be part of it." She answered. Agent Kleio approached them, following his partner. He reached out his hand as well, "I apologise for the rude start. We didn't mean to create a scene." He said, recalling the scene they'd just created minutes ago. Agent Lucas raised an eyebrow, "Scene?" He asked them, but the two just ignored the chief officer's question. The female chuckled, knowing quite well about the incident, "It's fine. With everything going on, I don't blame you." she answered, accepting the other's hand. Seeing as the three had been well introduced, Agent Lucas decided to leave the three. The silence between the three agents came quickly, and a heavily awkward atmosphere surrounded them. Neither one was willing enough to start the conversation. The two agents just mindlessly approached their desk, while the female agent took a seat on one of the spare monoblock chair in the room. Agent Dionne thoroughly scanned the office of the two agents. Creeping her sight at the different files and folders on the tables as well as a bulletin board, personalized with pictures and information about their current case. However, the thing that caught the female agent's attention was a piece of paper on top of one of the shelves near her seat. It was a piece of newspaper, particularly about three extraordinary students who had the misfortune to discover one of their schoolmates in an abandoned warehouse. The paper contains the article as well as a documented photo of the three leaving the crime scene. A tall male with what the agent seemed to notice had a cast on his arm, the middle was a younger female and behind her was an equally tall male like the first one. "You're working with these three, right?" She suddenly asked the two agents, holding up the news article. "They've been part of this case since the one in the cafe?" Agent Brook looked at Agent Kleio for a second, hesitant to give out information to someone they didn't know. But then again, she was now a temporary addition to their team. She had every right to know who the people they were with in this case. "Yes, those three are one of the people involved in this case." She nodded, eyes still glued at the article in her hand, "You're related to them, right?" she asked them again. The two nodded, "The boy in the front is Brook's nephew, Daexoen, and the boy in the back is Styx, my son. The female is Sage." Agent Kleio answered on their behalf. The female agent nodded, "And I'll be able to meet them, when?" She asked, catching the two off guard. The two didn't utter a word, hesitant to expose the three to a new person, as well as having no such idea who this person could be. "Why would you want to meet them?" Agent Brook asked. The female placed the paper back on the shelf, making her way to the agent. "Because I'm part of the case now. And I need to be aware of these three," she reasoned out. Agent Brook sighed, "Alright. I guess we could introduce you tomorrow, or the day after." He reluctantly agreed, realizing the importance of her meeting the three students. "We'll have to tell them first, of course." Agent Kleio intervened, "It's not good to just bring this out to them. If they agree to meet you, we'll let you know." He decided. Understanding the agent's reason, the female nodded. "Fair enough," she said, taking her things, attempting to leave. "You're leaving?" Agent Brook asked. She turns towards them, "My start of term is actually tomorrow, I just came here to introduce myself before my actual work hours." "I see." Agent Brook said, returning his attention towards the monitor in front of him, "I'll look into your possible desk for tomorrow." he answered, not looking at the woman. "Very much appreciated, Agent" she said, giving a quick nod before leaving the room. As Agent Dionne makes her way towards her vehicle, she takes out her phone, looking at the photo she took in the office just minutes ago. As she sat in front of the wheel she couldn't help but dwell on the photo of the three teens once again, specifically the female. "I found you. I'm not losing you again." She thought to herself.
