“I was using the Second floor bathroom when I heard someone come into the next cubicle I was in. He was talking to someone on his phone. He said something along the lines of having some water bottle and he asked if they were sure the girl would be there. I then heard him going out of the cubicle and eventually the bathroom. I left as soon as possible but when I was about to leave the hospital then that happened” He explained.
“You said you only heard him. Why did you say you saw him?” Agent Brook questioned.
“I didn’t see him at first but when I was about to leave there were a lot of people by the exit, I felt someone come near me and whisper to my ear. ‘I know you heard me. You tell, and You’re dead’ I was too shocked and scared to move until I realized that everyone was starting to panic” He confessed.
“I see. Aside from that, did you see anything else?” Agent Kleio asked, earning himself a quick head shake from the witness.
“No, Like I said I was too scared to even function properly."
With no more added information they decided to escort the witness out of the room before going back to the three teens. The trio were silently waiting for their return, each giving a bored and disappointed look. If they were being honest, they stopped listening after the first statement.
“That was useless” Daexoen said as soon as the two agents came in.
“I knew we shouldn’t have insisted on this. It was a waste of time” Sage whispered to herself.
The two agents looked at each other, “What do you mean? His statement was a big help to prove the suspect is guilty” Agent Kleio told them.
“Yes, but that doesn’t get us anywhere in this case. We already know he’s guilty Dad. The CCTV was more than enough to prove him guilty. This was a waste of time” Styx refuted,
“Speaking of CCTV, did they print a picture of it?” Daexoen asked, remembering the needed photos.
“Oh right, here it is.” Agent Brook said, handing the trio an envelope they got from Agent Lucas.
There were three pictures in the envelope. They carefully placed the pictures on top of the table before thoroughly examining the papers. The three photos contain the captured image of the suspect as he tries to leave the medical institution.
“What’s that?” Styx asked while pointing to the suspect’s hand.
The five tried to examine the blurred object but it was too little for them to identify it, “Can I have a bottle of water?” Sage asked which the agent was quick to follow.
“What’s that for?” Daexoen confusedly asked, seeing the youngest place the bottled water horizontally on the picture.
“Lens effect, the water enhances the picture.” She answered. The four males looked at the photo with the bottle enhancing the blurred object.
"Is that a keychain?" Agent Brook asked.
"That's not just any normal keychain." Styx suddenly said, looking intently at the keychain. "That's the VIP keychains of Devil’s Den, it’s a popular club here. They give them to their VIP customers of the club. That club is near Deviox, they usually open around 6 in the evening.” Styx answered.
All four looked at him bewildered, “And How did you know that?” His father asked, raising his eyebrow.
Styx suddenly turned pale realizing who the people he was with were, “Uh… I… Heard it from my classmates?” he nervously answered, turning his look away from his father.
“Uhuh” his father said, disbelief written on his face.
However before he could ask his son more Agent Brook stopped him. “That’s enough, interrogate him later. We need to go to this club first, this might be a good lead to our suspect” Agent Brook said.
"It's already 4:53, if the club opens by 5 then we'll have enough gap time for the workers to all settle in when we arrive." Daexoen said attempting to leave.
Before the three could properly move themselves out of their chairs, both agents questioned their well-being. Although they've been an active help since this afternoon's case the two agents couldn't but worry about the three's injuries from their previews 'case'. All three students had bandages on their heads, Daexoen had a broken arm, Styx still needed crunches to walk or someone to hold on to and Sage still had numerous cuts and her shoulder was still under monitoring.
"How we drive you three home first." Agent Brook suggested.
The three looked at them confused, "What do you mean?" Styx asked.
"You three are still injured and we don't think it's a good idea to have you move around." Agent Kleio answered.
"We understand your concern but you do realize that Styx is the only one who knows where the club is and could possibly get us inside. Second, I doubt you two would come up a plan for the next action once you've gotten information on the suspects from the club." Sage told them, earning a sudden silence from the two agents. "Admit it agents. You need us." she insisted.
Daexoen held onto Sage's shoulder, "We're fine. I know the reason why you want us to go home is because you're worried but some cuts and bruises won't kill us." Daexoen convinced them.
The two agents sighed in defeat before leading them towards the station's parking lot. The three looked at each other with a victorious grin as they settled themselves in the back seat of the car.
With Styx navigating the way, the quintet was quick to arrive at the just opened club. It was about 5:30 or so in the evening so there were already a few people in the club. The room was intoxicating with the strong odor of alcohol and cigarettes.
Sage covered her nose trying to block out the intoxicating odor. With her strong sense of smell the younger couldn’t help but feel nauseated, she held onto Daexoen who was also trying to cover his nose from the strong odor. It was a bit difficult for him since he was assisting Styx on his right side while his left was casted and Sage was holding onto his waist. Not only was the smell nauseating but the sight they were exposed to was very uncomfortable. A handful of people were making out on different seats around the club, others were dancing in a very vulgar manner. It wasn’t something the two would be found in.
Styx on the other hand, was wearing a lowered hat and trying to avoid the people there. His face turned pale when he noticed a waiter trying to get a glimpse of him. He cursed under his breath when he felt the waiter approach them.
“Sir? What happened to your leg? Don’t you--” The waiter was quickly cut off by the teenager
“I think you've mistaken me for someone else. I’ve never been here before” Styx panicked. His father was throwing him deadly glares as the waiter insisted on knowing the eldest.
The waiter gave him a confused look, “What? I can’t be mistaken, you’re sir St-”
Styx pushed through the waiter practically dragging Daexoen away, “We need to get going! We have important things to do. Let’s go!” He quickly intervened, trying his best to get away from the stubborn waiter.
“Styx Gavren" Styx turns pale at his father's call. "You and I need to have a talk when we get home” his father coldly said, sending shivers to the boy.
“Looks like someone knows how to deal with parties” Daexoen mischievously said before grinning at his embarrassed friend.
“Shut up” Styx hissed as they continued to make their way towards the bartender.
When they got to the bartender who was carefully cutting lemons for the drinks. Daexoen swiftly went near him.
“Excuse me, Do you know this man?” He asked as he showed him the picture of their suspect. The bartender paused what he was doing after seeing the picture.
“No, sorry. Excuse me” He hurriedly answered, attempting to leave.
“Stop lying, tell us what you know” Styx stopped him.
The Bartender gave him an irritated look, “I’m not lying, I just need to go.” He harshly said.
“Do you know why you stop cutting lemons?” Sage intervened.
The man behind the counter raised his eyebrow, “Because it’s enough?”
“That is obviously not enough for drinks for a whole night for a bar as popular as this one. You stop because the part of your brain that does small tasks also stops functioning when you’re telling a lie” Daexoen answered.
Hearing this the two agents revealed their badges to the man, “Tell us where he is and we’ll leave,” Agent Brook said.
Seeing the agents' badge the bartender nervously looked around the club, “I-- He went out with a girl last time he was here. I’ll ask her if she knows where he lives” The bartender gave up.
“Name? What’s the guy’s name?” Agent Kleio asked before the guy left.
“I think it was Ivan… Ivan Levorty” He recalled before leaving.
Once they got the suspect’s address from the female worker the five didn’t waste time and continued to head towards the address. They were led to a small apartment near the hospital, it was small but it looked like it was a good place for people with good living conditions.
“Room 28” Sage pointed towards the room in front of them.
The two agents knocked but no one answered. They tried to knock again but this time they tried to call out the suspect but like before nobody answered. They looked confused before turning back to the three.
“Are you sure he didn’t leave?” They asked, earning a nod from the trio.
“We asked the front desk, she said the guy never left the building since he got back” Daexoen tiredly answered.
They were all tired, they just left the hospital after two days and then they had to start chasing a criminal for the past 5 hours. Not only that, Daexoen was also tired from assisting Styx to walk. It was a very exhausting day but they knew they needed to catch him tonight or else they would lose him.
“Mr. Ivan Levorty, this is the police! Open the door!” Agent Brook yelled but to no avail.
The five grew restless, “Can’t we just break down the door?” Styx asked.
“We can’t do that we might—“ Agent Kleio was silenced by the youngest.
She signaled them to be quiet and listen through the door. When they stayed silent they heard a low moan from the other side. The moan wasn’t anything malicious, more like a painful one. The moan started to get louder turning into painful muffled grunts. They suddenly understood the situation they were in. The two agents looked at each other, they were reluctant but they didn’t have any choice but to break the door down. It was against the law but given the circumstances they might be able to bend it a little.
When they broke into the room they saw the suspect tied up in a chair and looked like he was brutally beaten. It was a miracle he could open his eyes or even let out sounds from how terrible his situation was. They carefully approached him, wearing gloves the two agents tried to get the ropes off of him, starting from the towel wrapped around his mouth. He was looking at Sage, a look of desperation and fear.
“He- he’s” He tried to tell her once the towel was off his mouth.
“Sir, you need to-“ Styx was cut off by the suspect when he suddenly pointed towards Sage as soon as the agents got rid of the ropes.
“He’s w-watching y-you” He told the female. Everyone had a bewildered look, the four male slowly looked at the female.
“Who?” Daexoen asked, still shocked by the suspect's sudden confession.
He looked at them in guilt, “S—“
Everyone in the room grew silent, they were shocked. It was so fast, the next thing they knew was the window of the room shattered and their suspect was now dead on the floor of his apartment, blood running down on the floor creating a crimson red puddle. Someone shot him in the head before he could say anything. They stayed still, bewildered and surprised with the sudden situation.
“So I was right…” Sage said, looking at the guy’s body. “Someone has been watching us.”
