Chapter 54: Back to school, Back to gossip

1769 Words
The peaceful silence between the three was solemn. Each doing their own little thing while bringing up one another from time to time. If other people could see them, they would hardly believe they're friends with one another. Although there weren't any long conversations nor immersive interactions, it was euphoric. It was like they were home with each other.   Honestly speaking, they wouldn't have eaten lunch if Greg didn't knocked on their door with a tray full of food for their afternoon meal.  And now they were once again reminded of the time because of a phone call Daexoen received from Agent Brook.  "Are you still at the cafe? It's 4 pm, are you going home?" He asked his nephew. The three looked at each other hearing this, they simultaneously checked their watches to confirm the time.  "Uncle, I'll be staying with Sage tonight again," he let his uncle know.  "Just you? How about Styx?" he asked. Daexoen turned the speaker on, telling Styx about his uncle's question, "I can't tonight. I need to finish a project I'm doing for school." "I see." He said before turning the questions back to his nephew. "Should I bring you your clothes and things for school tomorrow? How long would you be staying there, Dae?"  "Just for tonight. Her cousin will be back tomorrow," he answered the last question, looking at the female for approval. " And yes, uncle. Could you bring my things for me? It would be a hassle for me to go home and then back to their place." Agent Brook nodded although it wasn't seen by the trio, "I'll drop it by later. You three should go home already, it's about to turn dark." "Uh, uncle Brook is dad there?" Styx suddenly intervened, looking for his father. They heard muffled voices and shuffling until they heard a clearer voice, "I'm here. What's wrong Styx?" Agent Kleio said, worried about his son's sudden call.  "Nothing dad, I was curious if you could pick me up at Sage's," he asked.  "Sure. We'll be there by 5 or so."  Styx smiled, "Thanks, dad. See you." "Alright, you three head to the house," the agent said before ending the call. "Well, this was a productive day," Sage said, earning a series of chuckles from the boys.  "Come on, I'm sure Uncle Greg is dying for us to head home," Daexoen said, initiating to fix their things.  After fixing everything and locking up the club room, the three headed towards the counter.  "Was wondering when you three would  come out," Greg teased them as soon as he spotted the trio. "Honestly though, what are you three doing in there?" One of his employees asked,  constantly raising his eyebrows in an up and down motion as if signing at the three.  Sage looked at him confused while the two gave him death glares, knowing quite well what he meant.  "Shut it, Rin," Greg scolded, "Go back to your work." As the employee left, the two males couldn't help but keep an annoyed look, "I'm sorry for him. You three are here quite frequently," Greg told them. Daexoen sighed, calming himself. "It's fine, uncle. We'll head home already," he let him know before asking for their bill.  By the time they reached Sage's house it was almost 5 in the afternoon. However, Styx noticed an unusual sight from the female's outside bedroom window.  "Sage," he called out to the youngest, who was paying for the taxi cab. "That's your room, right?" he asked, pointing to the window just above the house door. The other looked at it, equally surprised. "Sage, why are the lights in your room lit?" Daexoen asked.  Sage felt cold after his question, "I might have forgotten to turn it off earlier," she found an excuse even though she didn't even know herself.  As they entered the house, they were surprised to see that even the living room lights were on. And the television was playing.  "Jansen must've come home this afternoon," she said, mindlessly walking up to her room.  She opens her bedroom door, welcomed with the fragrant smell of vanilla. It was her favorite shampoo scent. Not only was the room bursting with scents, but her closet was wide open, and her bed was now fixed in an odd way.  This was when Sage finally confirmed everything. Someone was in her house. Someone who wasn't supposed to be there. She continues to look through her room, searching if there were things missing or misplaced.  "Sage? Is something wrong? What are you looking for?" Surprised, she instantly looked at her door frame where the two boys were now standing. It was Styx who asked her, seeing the scavenging female. "Nothing. Just fixing some things," she said, approaching the two. "Well, you could do that or let's go downstairs and watch television so that we can actually hang out and I won't have any regrets when I leave?" Styx said, exaggerating his desire to hang out with the two. Daexoen chuckled, "He's been moping that he's not going to be staying here tonight," Daexoen teased the other. "Shut up," Styx grunted, shoving the male to the side. "Come on, Sage. They'll be here in a few minutes."  The three were comfortably sitting on the couch, watching some random T.V. Show that neither of them knew about. It was a comforting scenario. Until a series of knocks and calls were heard on the other side of the door, ruining their solemn moment. Styx groans as the realization hits him. The two chuckled, “You’ll survive,” Daexoen said, patting his shoulder as he got up to open the door.  A bag of clothes and his satchel for school. Behind these things were the two agents looking tiredly at him. He grins at them before taking the bags and letting them in the house.  “Well, aren’t you three cozy,” Agent Brook teased, seeing the couch with blankets and pillows. “I’ll pick the two of you up tomorrow and drive you to Deviox,” he told the pair. Daexoen frowned, “You really don’t have to, uncle. You could just drive Vienna there. Sage and I could call a taxi,” he tried to convince his uncle.  “I’ll pick you up. It’s not a problem,” the agent determinedly told him.  Daexoen sighed in defeat, Styx, on the other hand, noticed a missing agent. “Where’s agent Dionne?”  “She went home first. She guessed you wouldn’t like to see her today,” Agent Kleio said, lowkey reminded them about their rude attitude to the agent this morning.  “You can’t blame us, uncle,” Daexoen spoke up for the group. Agent Brook nodded, “We know and she does too. But that doesn’t mean she’s not trying,” Agent Brook tried to open up to them. “Give her a chance, we need all the help we can get.” There was a moment of silence between them. The three were silently thinking about the agent’s words. It wasn’t that they weren’t giving her a chance, it's just that they were still cautious about the new addition. Sage, however, knew she could trust the female agent with these kinds of things, but with the things of the past, she was still hesitant.  “Alright, I think it’s time for all of us to rest. It has been a long day for us and tomorrow you all have school.” Agent Brook broke the silence.  Agent Kleio agreed, “Come on, Styx. Let’s go home” he called out to his son, obviously tired from work.  Styx sighed, grabbing his things before turning towards the other two, “Guess I’ll get going. See you at school tomorrow?”  The two smiled, waving at the leaving boy as they continued to watch the animated show. Styx looked at them, his hands balled into a fist. They were his friends, but he couldn’t help but feel envious of one of them. The close relationship they had, and how the other could easily make the other smile.  As he left the house, he couldn’t help but notice a strange figure behind the side of the house garden. It was dark and gloomy but somehow he just felt like there was someone there. “Styx, come on,” Unfortunately, he couldn’t get to it because of his father’s call.  The night wasn’t long for the two teens. There wasn’t any awkward atmosphere between them nor any unwanted moments. Most would have thought it was wrong or weird having a girl and a boy in the same house, let alone the same room together. But for them it wasn’t really a big deal. The two were like siblings. Treating each other like they would if they had a brother or sister.  Around 11, the two were fast asleep. Daexoen was sleeping on the female’s floor while the youngest was on her bed.  However, like the previous night, there was someone just watching them. Anger and jealousy were evident in his eyes. It was unfair how the other boy was allowed to enter the female’s room without sneaking around. Why was it always them? Why not him?  However, the angry look turned into a cunning smirk as he looked at the sleeping male.  “You’re going to regret this. I’ll make sure you pay.” He thought to himself.  The next morning, Agent Brook kept his promise to pick up the two. With him was Vienna, who seemed quite excited about her new school.  “Vienna, you’re going to join them for lunch?” Agent Brook asked, earning a no from the younger female.  She shook her head, “Olive and I are going together. Plus, the main cafeteria is too far. I don’t know why Sage would still walk all the way there just to hang out with these idiots.” Vienna teased.  Daexoen rolled his eyes at her, “Because she’s not a lazy bum like you,” he fired back.  “Alright enough. We’re here,” Agent Brook stopped them before a fight could break out.  Vienna excitedly exited the car, running towards the direction of the campus, forgetting all about her cousin and uncle.  “Well, then. You two have a good day,” Agent Brook said before leaving.  The two walked onto campus. Unsurprisingly, numerous pairs of eyes and endless amounts of whispering were centered around them. The two sighed, clearly understanding what this was all about. Daexoen whispered to the younger, “Back to school, Back to gossip.”
