Chapter 16: Friends?

1380 Words
Silence reigns over their table as they both try to finish eating their lunch. Both were too occupied with their thoughts and questions that linger at the recently received text message, What can this person really do? To what extent will this person make a move? Did they already make a move? How many people did they threaten already?  Daexoen looked at the younger with worried eyes. He was worried about what would happen if this person would take their threat into all seriousness. As much as he praised the female's outstanding intellect he can't deny that she lacks a bit of remorse. She's so dense with her emotions, so careless of herself that he fears she would even take on the threat headstrong. "If this person is serious about trying to hurt or even possibly kill you then you shouldn't be alone or at least stay with a crowd" Daexoen finally decided to cut the silence between the two.  Confused, Sage tilts her head after hearing his sentence, "I'll be fine" She rejected the suggestion. However Daexoen was firm on his decision, "No." he said with a stone look. "Even if you say that we have no idea what he or she could do. I'll go with you as much as I can but as much as possible if I'm not around you stay in crowded places" he said, authority and seriousness evident in his voice. Sage avoids eye contact with the older, "Won't that be an inconvenience to you? Plus you have classes and we're in different departments and campuses." "I'll manage, Don't worry about it. But now how do we find out if this is really the president who is sending you these messages?" That's the same thing Sage has been trying to figure out the moment she received the first message. How would they prove that the person behind the text and their student president is the same person? or at least acquainted with one another? As if on cue, the younger saw the said suspect walking inside the cafeteria. Doubtful yet she decided to take the shot with the plan she just thought of.  "Well, I guess we should just play our luck. Be right back" Daexoen followed the younger with confused stares as he witnessed her slowly walking towards the Student president. His bewildered expression turned into a mischievous grin as he figured the intention of the other.  "Ms. President" Sage politely called out But what shocked her was the sudden change of the other's reaction compared to the one she had early this morning. The previous gaudy and bubbly features were replaced with a meaner and more intimidating gaze as she looked at Sage with one eyebrow raised and eyes sharp as a knife. "What?" She coldly asked "I'm sorry to disturb you with this. But you see my phone suddenly died and Daex over there left his in his locker, I really need to text my aunt. Can I perhaps borrow your phone?" Her face turned into an irritated frown hearing that from the younger  She looks at her with a harsh expression, "And you're asking for my help because?" "Because I don't know anyone here, and you told us this morning to approach you if we need something" The other tried to reason out. However, the president looked at her with a still face, obviously having doubts about the teen's sudden interaction. Sage knew from her expression that she was about to turn down the younger's request. But luck was truly on Sage's side when she then spotted the desired teacher who just entered the cafeteria hall. Sir Myers was briefly walking towards the counter and Sage knew it was a perfect psychological trick to get her to agree with her request. Sage sighs before turning to the teacher's direction, making sure that the older female sees the professor, "If it really is an inconvenience I won't imply. I'll just ask Mr. Myers." she threatened.   She then noticed the sudden change of expression from the other from the mention of the said teacher's name. Weirdly, unlike this morning you could definitely notice the sudden reaction from the other. However, having said that, the other female still was a bit hesitant. "Maybe I could get his phone number as well" She whispered, making sure that the other would hear her petty taunting.  Lucky enough, the older reluctantly handed over her phone, "Here, Don't disturb the teachers especially Sir Myers. I'm sure he has a lot going as it is" giving in to the younger's manipulation. Sage took the phone, "Thank you."  As planned she didn't really need to text her aunt instead she sent a message to herself before deleting the said message and giving it back to the council president. "Here you go. Thank you so much" She returned to her seat beside the older boy.  Daexoen leaned closer towards her, "So what was the plan?" he asked. Sage frowns as she looks at the number, "Honestly I have no idea but we'll think of something. I now have her phone number" Sage let out a sigh. She examines both numbers that were sent to her, neither of which was any similar to the other. Daexoen, noticing the time, slowly stood up from his chair. "Hmm... I think we should head to our departments. It's almost class time. I'll accompany you" Before she could turn down the male's offer she was already dragged by the other to the cafeteria's exit. Left with no choice, the younger decided to just agree with the other's sudden action.  They had a quiet yet peaceful walk towards the High school department. Well, sorta peaceful. Of course the topic of the two were still fresh from everyone's memory that they still attracted everyone's attention. What's more irritating is that they seemed to notice how everyone gets gaudier if the two are together. It was like watching two protagonists in a movie, waiting for them to cross paths with each other. Amidst the grueling attention, it didn't take long for them to arrive in front of Sage's classroom.  Sage faced the male before entering the room, "Let's meet at the front gate after class. Where can we go to have a little discussion?" She suddenly asked. Daexoen thought for a moment before coming up with the perfect place to hold their sudden meetings. "How about back at Uncle Greg's Cafe? It's closest to the school and we can ask Uncle Greg for the extra office again." She nods her head "Alright. Honestly, I don't know where to go from here, I have the president's number but I have no clue on how to work with this," She admitted. And then an idea hit the older. He gave her a mischievous grin which left the other quite confused behind the meaning of it. He was sure that he knew how to solve this little problem regarding the phone numbers in question, he just needed to talk to a little someone. She looked at him confused, "Why are you smiling? Do you have a plan?  "I might just have something in mind that could help with that, but I need to ensure it first. I'll bring it after class" he grinned. "Okay? Are you sure that could help?" "Positive" He confidently said. "Alright then, I'll trust you with that. Let's just meet by the gate." Daexoen frowned, "How about I'll fetch you after your last class?" he suggested. Sage frowns, "I understand your concern but I'm alright." She firmly said. "The departments are far from each other and it would be a waste of time." Daexoen sighed before agreeing to the female. Although he was still worried for her safety, he knew she had a good point. They bid farewell to each other. Sage walks inside the room with complete curiosity about her friend's plan. "Friend? I don't understand how one can be a 'friend'. Can I call him that? I mean I have grown fond of him... Maybe Auntie was right." She thought as she tries to identify the relationship she has with the older, considering the fact that they've only known each other for a few days. "Maybe. it is time to open up a little."
