The moment the two agents entered the room they noticed how the three quietly talking amongst themselves, obviously trying to keep their conversation amongst themselves. However, there was a sudden silence between the three students as they noticed the two agents entering the room.
The two raised an eyebrow in their sudden silence, "What were you talking about?" Agent Brook asked as they approached the trio.
"Nothing big. So are we seeing the witness first or the body of the suspect?" Daexoen asked, as he casually disperse from the little circle the three had.
Before Agent Brook could open his mouth Agent Kleio answered, "Body. The witness requested to wait for his child first before the interrogation" Agent Kleio said after reading a message he just received.
The three nodded, “Let’s go then?” Sage said.
They left the room and silently walked towards the autopsy lab. The two agents walk in front of the three teens as they guide them to the laboratory of the station. As soon as they entered they were greeted by the coroner as well as Agent Yres.
"Agent Yres" Agent Brook greeted while extending a hand to the latter which he gladly accepted.
"This is my Nephew, Daexoen. Styx, Kleio's son and their friend, Sage" He introduced the three students.
The agent gave a warm smile and a subtle nod to the three, "Yes I heard about them from the previous interrogation. But last time I remembered there were only two of them,” he said.
“Let’s say I just joined the club” Styx said which earned a knowing nod from the other agent.
"So what happened?" Agent Brook asked.
Agent Yres' attention shifted back towards the two head agents, "Like I said, we were in the middle of an interrogation when he suddenly collapsed. He was also just about to answer our question" he explained.
“He was admitted to the hospital right? Then you just brought him to the station?” Daexoen asked, earning a fast yes from the latter.
“And no one entered the room?" Agent Kleio asked.
The Agent in charge shook his head as a response, "No, I personally was the one guarding his room so it was impossible for me not to notice anyone" he said.
The three raised their eyebrows, “Are you sure you never left him alone? Even a single second can kill a dozen people” Sage clarified.
The agent quickly defended himself, “No. Believe me I never left. If I were to leave for the bathroom I made sure at least one agent is with him and a camera for me to still monitor him" He reasoned, frantically convincing the quintet to believe him.
“Woah, too much information, isn’t that a bit much?” Styx Jokes, earning an unbelievable look from the other three.
Daexoen held his shoulder, “Dude, really not the time” he scolded.
Sage once again focused on the other agent, “Since he woke up did you notice anything weird about him?” Sage asked
"None, he looked fine." he tried to recall.
She gave him an understanding nod, “Have you started examining the body?” she asked the coroner.
The coroner gave a slight jump, not expecting to be asked by the former. “We're about to, it might take time for the lab results to come through. His body just arrived a few moments ago." She answered.
“May I ask, did he drink or eat anything before you start?” Daexoen asked Agent Yres.
The agent held his chin trying to recall that moment, "He asked for a cup of coffee before we started the interrogation. Maybe about 20 minutes before he passed."
“Before he died he must have had any symptoms, notice anything?” Styx asked.
The agent nodded, "He said he had trouble breathing. He also complained about stomach and muscle pain. He also had a hard time constructing words, that's why we had a long time." he recalled.
After hearing this Daexoen quickly looked at the female, “Could this finally be hemlock?” He asked her.
The agents looked at them, hearing a possible answer. “Hemlock?” Agent Brook asked but was harshly ignored by the three.
the three began to discuss between themselves once again, “So it was in his coffee? Couldn’t be somewhere else right? Since it was the only thing he consumed before the symptoms. I doubt it could have been his breakfast” Styx concludes.
“You’re right it’s Hemlock, and you’re also right about the coffee.” She agreed, giving the two a proud grin.
"Wait. How can you be sure its hemlock?" The Coroner asked them.
The three shrugged, "We don’t, that’s your job. We just conclude” Daexoen answered.
“Hemlock? What's a hemlock?” Agent Yres asked, looking at everyone with a confused look.
The three sighed, it was getting quite irritating how they needed to explain everything every time, “Hemlock is a poisonous herb which can kill within the range of 20-60 minutes. The symptoms match the poison. Hemlock has alkaloids which attack the respiratory and digestive system of the body. That explains his lack of breath and the stomach pain. But like Daex said, we can’t confirm anything unless you perform an examination” Sage explained, earning an enlightened nod from the confused agent.
"But why kill him?" Agent Kleio asked, a question that lingers in their heads.
The three almost gave themselves a head slap at the agent's denseness, “Dad, Seriously? Didn’t you hear us in the car? He's nothing but a pawn, he got caught so he needs to be eliminated before he could say anything about the person behind this" Styx surly told his father.
"But I heard you say they need him for something. What could this be?" Agent Brook asked.
"We don’t know what it was since we don’t know exactly what his role in this game is. Yes he’s just a minor player but we don’t know what part he plays. I doubt he was just the bomber in the school” Daexoen said.
“We can’t figure out what or how he transmitted the information, like I’ve once said agent, we are mere students we can’t possibly know everything. He might have written a letter and the suspect was a nurse, or he could have used cryptology, or codes. We may be intellectual but we aren’t fortune tellers nor psychics.” The female answered.
“Knocks" Agent Yres suddenly murmured, as he remembered the past encounter with the late suspect.
Everyone in the room looked at him, “Knocks?” Styx looked at the agent with curious stares.
“Last night, I had to change shifts with another agent because I needed to get some rest because of the interrogation today. I just intended to sleep for at least 2 hours or less, I also put up some cameras if something happens. In the middle of my sleep I noticed he kept on knocking on the walls, he told me he was anxious so I didn’t mind it. I think I heard knocks aside from his but I was too tired to focus on that” He explained
“Knocks? Morse?” Styx asked, looking at the calm duo.
“Looks like it wasn’t anxiety, it was responses, and the trembling was based on fear and worry, the one responding to the knocks must have said something to frighten him that’s why he’s shaking” Sage said.
“Do you have the video? Can the knocks be heard?” Styx asked the other agent
The agent rubbed his nape as he lowered his head, “Unfortunately, our cameras don't have a microphone” The agent shyly answered.
The three looked at each other with raised eyebrows. The other two agents tried to talk to agent Yres while the three stood aside, giving a big enough distance away from the agents to talk between them.
“Well, isn’t that useless” Daexoen whispered to the other two.
Styx gave a bewildered look, “Why put up a camera with no audio? How useless” Styx added.
“Well, we can’t figure out the code and responses without hearing them” Sage spoke up to the three, earning a defeat sigh from them.
Without any more information to retrieve the agents decided to leave the lab, “Thank you for the cooperation Agent Yres. We’ll get going first” Agent Brook said to the other before leading them out of the room.
The agent gave a guilty smile, “I’m sorry for not being a big help agent” Agent Yres said before the five left the room.
The two Agents led the three to a room next to the interrogation room. With the one way window placed between the two rooms the three could easily see the other side without being seen by the witness or other agents in the next room but could be able to see and hear them clearly.
“You three stay here, you can hear the conversations from the other room, if you want to say something just click on this and --” Styx cut off his father.
“We get it dad, we know how it works” he said before sitting next to the other two who were now casually seated by the window.
Once they saw the three settled down, the two agents decided to leave the room to call out the witness. Once they left Styx couldn’t help but turn his chair towards the other two.
“He was lying, right?” He asked the question that kept circling in his head the moment they left the autopsy lab. He kept his voice down, he wanted to make sure it was only them who could hear him. Although they were alone they could never be too sure.
The two nodded, “He was blinking rapidly, he kept pursuing his obviously lying” Daexoen answered.
“Why not snitch him?” Styx asked again.
Sage shook her head at the eldest suggestion, “If we do that he’d deny it, and if he does we don’t have any physical evidence to support our claims. He could sue us, and if our hunch is right that he’s part of this he would immediately do that to stop us from helping” Sage explained.
Styx stayed quiet. He understood the reason the youngest told them. If they were to tell them, they didn’t have anything to prove with. And remembering the events that happened to his friends at the cafeteria just a week ago, the person behind this was keen on keeping his identity hidden. And if that agent was an accomplice, it’s possible that they could use that chance to stop them. They already tried to threaten the agents with bombs and death, what more if they have a chance to lock them up. it would have been the perfect reason to stop the three to intervene.
The three focused their attention to the just opened door from the other room. They closely observe the incoming witness who was being led by the two head agents. The three closely observe the mannerism of the witness.
“I’m Agent Brook, this is Agent Kleio and We’re the head agents in this case” Agent Brook introduced themselves.
The witness hesitantly introduced himself, “I’m Vincent, Vincent Treciono.”
“Let’s get straight to the point. Around the time of 3 pm, Ms. Hillary Jersyo was murdered at the hospital, What did you see during the crime?” Agent Kleio interrogated.
“I went to the hospital to visit my friend who was admitted in the second floor room. I was about to go home when I needed to use the bathroom” He paused for a while, trying to calm himself in front of the two.
“Why do I feel like his information would not be of use?” Daexoen said, disappointingly leaning back on his chair.
Styx sighed with disappointment before leaning back as well, "I agree." He said.
The female just closed her eyes as she pinched the bridge of her nose with dismay, "This is worthless."
