Chapter 17: Meet Styx

1988 Words
When the clock strikes at exactly 3 in the afternoon; all classes end with students pairing up with their friends, endless laughter and murmurs filled the corridors of every level as students began to end their school hours. Sage was sitting on a bench near the main gate waiting for the older to arrive within their discussed time. As she sits and waits, her eye caught the presence of the teacher their campus president is obsessed over. He was talking to another male teacher, and just behind him, she saw the obsessed president holding different art supplies while stealing lovesick glances at the busy teacher. She was even more suspicious of the girl. This president was far more different than the president they met early in the morning, not just with their personality but with their appearance as well. The president earlier was wearing glasses with what she ensured were high-graded lenses, but this president was wearing a different pair, not only that when she talked to her during lunch she noticed the glasses didn't have any graded lenses. "I'm pretty sure it's impossible for someone to just have clearer eyesight than they did just hours before. Even if that person has DID." She thought to herself as she continued to observe the president. "Sage!" she withdraws her attention from the teacher and student towards the newly arrived college student. Her expression turned into a confused frown when she noticed the older had company with him. Judging by his features and uniform he was about the same year level as Daexoen. She coldly looked at the other boy, "Who is he?" she asked Daexoen. "Sage, Meet Styx, he is Uncle or Agent Kleio's son." Daexoen introduced the other. "Styx, this is Sage." "Nice to meet you Sage" Styx greeted as he brought out his hand for a shake. Reluctant, Sage held out her hand, "And you'' confused yet she accepted the kind greeting. "So mind telling me why he is here." Sage directly asked Daexoen. "You said we needed something to track the numbers, well Styx is a computer science major." He held on to Styx's shoulders, "He is really skillful with technology." Styx gave a shy smile. A bit embarrassed at his friend's enthusiastic compliment, "Daexoen told me about your case, and I would love to help out." The other boy said. Before Daexoen went back to his class he decided to visit his friend down the computer science department. Even Styx was shocked to see him there. Though they were friends, the other couldn't quite believe that Daexoen asked for his help. It was no secret that Styx has skills for technology and even though it's far beyond his chosen course he still couldn't help but get intrigued with his father's line of work. He adored his father's work to the point when Daexoen asked if he could help them with a case he didn't dare hesitate to accept. Sage eyed the oldest of the three, "Are you sure? You might get caught up in this" Sage said. "I saw the video, both at the Cafe and Cafeteria. Dad also told me a lot of things. I'm willing to lend a hand and any help I could give" Styx was determined to help out no matter the consequences. Sage looked straight into the other male. She could help but scan his appearance. Styx was indeed fit for their situation. He has a great body figure if ever things would get out of hand. He and Daexoen are about the same height and body build. The difference between the two is their looks, Styx has a slightly more toned body compared to Daexoen's fair complexion. His eyes are a bit darker compared to the other boy and his hair is fixed into a messy hair-do complement his natural black hair color. His hair color suits him well, unlike Daexoen's Chestnut brown hair and Sage's Hazelnut hair, his is darker, more blended with other people not to mention his toned complexion, it would be harder for him to be noticed unlike the other two. It could be an advantage for them to have someone who looks more normal (?) than them? Someone who you wouldn't suspect at a first glance. "Maybe it couldn't hurt asking for another person's help" Sage thought to herself. She sighed, "Alright fine. Let's-" Sage was cut off by the sudden intrusion. "Heading to the club room?" The three looked back to see Sir Myers, smiling sweetly at them. Daexoen and Sage both gave themselves a head slap in their minds as they totally forgot about the art club thing. They were too preoccupied with the text messages they totally forgot about the teacher. Seeing as the other two weren't planning on answering the teacher, Styx decided to take initiative. "We were just meeting up to head there right now," he said, even though he was clueless about the situation he was in right now. "I see, Well, let's go? I'm heading there myself" The three nodded and began to follow the said teacher to the art club. While walking they noticed the irritated glances they kept receiving from the council president, especially towards Sage. However, they chose to ignore her, seeing as she won't stop until they've reached the club room. Styx casually leans towards the two, "Art club?" he asked, whispering to the duo. "Part of the plan" Daexoen whispered back. "Let's just fill in a temporary registration, stay until 4, then go to the cafe," Sage said As they entered the art room they noticed that the members are mostly guys. Excluding Sage and the President, there were only 3 other female students in the room. They followed the teacher who then gave them a fill-up form. "Since you're applying for a temporary registration you don't have to fill up the next page. We'll give you a day to see if you're interested,” the teacher said . "We'll see." Daexoen answered, "Uh, Sir. Would it be alright if we leave by 5?" he asked permission. The teacher looked at him confused, "Why? You'll only spend an hour and a half?" "We want to stay until club hours end but were supposed to go to the police station today because of what happened last Saturday" Daexoen lied. The teacher who was also up to date with the duo's videos instantly understood their reason. He agreed to their request before showing them the various activities the club was holding. A few minutes later they were asked to paint a few things before they could leave. He said it was part of their 'tradition'. A student must draw/paint something before they leave the room for the day. They tried to paint and sketch, the main word would be 'tried' for the two males. Unlike the two, Sage was rather talented in the field. She was also good with color combinations as she tried to paint her sketched canvas. "Okay maybe Arts isn't for us," Styx said as he looked at his 'finished' product. "Seconded," Daexoen said as he looked at his. They both winced at their supposed to be paintings. "I don't know about you but I think I did a good job," Sage said as she showed them her colorful and somewhat flawless canvas. The two almost dropped their jaws looking at the youngest's canvas. The way she combined the different colors and figures were truly magnificent. "So how did you like the time?" Sir Myers approached them with an enthusiastic smile. "I think. We'll pass in arts" Styx said as he scratched his neck showing the teacher his drawing Daexoen sighed, "Agreed" he said showing his. Both canvases were a bit messy. Honestly, you couldn't tell what they really wanted to draw. The lines were messy, the colors weren't complementing one another. It was chaos. At least they both know that they're never trying arts again. Sir Myers tried to keep cool trying not to laugh at the two's failed efforts by directing his attention to the other female. "Oh, And you?" Sage showed her canvas to the teacher, "I think I did okay." The teacher's reaction wasn't far from the two, "This is beautiful! You have quite the talent" The teacher praised. However, in the middle of the conversation, Daexoen noticed the student president was looking furiously towards Sage. She wasn't even trying to hide by looking away, she looked genuinely furious with the younger. Sage however was busy keeping her attention towards her painting, "Uh, thanks?" She reluctantly answered his praise. "Would you like to join the club? We could use a talent like yours." Daexoen swore that the president would break the paintbrush she was holding after hearing the teacher's invitation. This added to their suspicions that the president was really behind the death threats. However, they couldn't immediately point fingers without solid evidence yet. "I would love to but I was kind of hoping to join a club with the other two." she admitted, "Thanks for the opportunity but I guess we won't be registering." Sage kindly turned down. The teacher nodded, "That's a shame. But I would like to thank the three of you for taking an interest." He said with a friendly smile. Daexoen took a glance at the wall clock hanging just above the teacher's table, "It's almost 5 we better get going. Thanks again sir" Daexoen said. "We appreciate the opportunity" Styx added "Thanks for today," Sage said. The three made their way out of the room when Sage accidentally knocked over some books on the teacher's table. She quickly gathered the fallen books. "I apologize," Sage said. "It's fine." Sir Myers said, as he helped her gather the books until on the last book they accidentally touched each other's hand. The scene wasn't kept from the president's view, that's when they noticed the crumpled fist and deathly glares towards the younger. It's as if she was ready to kill her any moment. It was like she was ready to pounce once the other made one wrong move that could trigger her. "We really need to go, Thanks again" Styx said as he and Daexoen dragged Sage out of the room. All three were silent as they hurriedly left the School towards the Cafe. There were a lot of things that they needed to talk about but it was better to discuss it in private. "So we are right, she really does have feelings for this teacher, but why did she act like it was nothing this morning? Does she really have DID? But her other characteristics do not sum up to this disorder." Sage thought to herself as she recalled the female's actions. "Sage?" The two called her, worriedly looking at the youngest. She didn't even notice that they were right in front of the cafe. "You good?" Daexoen added. she nodded, "I'm fine, let's go inside." As they entered the cafe, they once again asked for the extra office from Greg. Seeing the three he instantly agreed and guided them again. He was actually expecting the two to show up; however, he was quite surprised to see the new addition to their group. "And now they're three. What made you join them, Styx?" Greg joked as they entered the room. He shrugged, "Just thought it would be better to reunite with Daex here" Styx answered throwing a friendly shoulder over Daexoen's earning them a little laugh from the owner. he nods before attempting to leave the room, "Well, I'll leave you three to it. Would you like something other than coffee?" "Nope this is enough uncle thanks" Daexoen said. The cafe owner nodded and excused himself from the group. As he left the three quickly locked the door and settled down on the couch. "So how can I help?" Styx started as he sat down in front of the two.
