Chapter 52: I’ll never trust you with my life

1483 Words
“You two know each other?” Agent Brook asked.  “Sage,” Daexoen called out to her, approaching the frozen youngest as she still couldn’t believe the person in front of her was. “Sage, are you okay? Do you know her?” he added as soon as the youngest was in his reach.  The female was just looking at the new agent with a cold stare. There were no emotions nor expressions on the female’s face. She herself doesn’t know how to interpret the feeling she’s currently feeling seeing the familiar face in front of her. The female agent gave an empathetic smile, “Yes, I know sou-” “Sage,” The youngest interrupted her, “I don’t use that name anymore.”  The agent frowned, “Why?” she asked. The female student stared at her, “Why do you care?” Her voice was full of empty emotions, cold and harsh, making everyone shiver.  No one spoke. Daexoen tried to guide the youngest back to her seat without an utterance. The atmosphere was dark and heavy, something the two agents weren’t really accustomed to with the trio. And again, no one uttered a word. The two agents couldn’t help but look at each other as they both scanned the 4 individuals in the room. The two male students couldn’t help but watch the unfazed highschooler, as her mind wanders to God knows where. And the female agent was just standing in front of the now closed door. Unsure how to begin with everything.  Minutes went by and the female agent realized no one of the three was willing to start anything. Be it an introduction or straight to the point, there was nothing the three would acknowledge to initiate as they had already begun to create a bubble of reality for themselves.  “I’m,” the new agent spoke up, gaining the full attention of the two agents. Unfortunately, she wasn’t lucky with the three students. She sighs, “I’m agent Dionne. From the Aviation department of Giver.” She introduced herself, standing in front of the 5 individuals in the room.  The serious and overwhelming atmosphere overshadowed the intense aura of the person standing just outside their door. He grins as he just stands there staring at the closed facility.  “Another one joined?” He said to himself, overhearing some details from the other side, “How interesting.” He said as he took out a scarf from his pocket.  It was a cotton wool scarf, designed in pastel pink colors with warm sky blue flowers. Obviously enough, the scarf wasn’t something a male would be seen with. He looks at it with great desire, bringing up the piece of fabric to his nose, inhaling the sweet fragrance of the scarf. He chuckled remembering how he took it from the female’s closet.  “I’m so close. Just so close.” he whispered as he remembered the angelic face of the sleeping female.  However, the lust and desire in his eyes turns cold and rage as he now hears the voice of one of the males he hated so much. It reminds him of how they intruded their time alone with the female. How they just came into the picture like everything was alright. Well, it wasn’t. How dare they meddle. How dare they take her attention away? His hands curled up into a tight fist, he gnashed his teeth with rage as he began to recall every pestered moment those two intervened. Why would she be friends with them so easily? Why were they part of her life with no problems? It was unfair. He was there first. He was hers first.  Suddenly, his expression turned into a murderous smirk, “I’ll make sure you suffer the pain he’s been through,” he said, letting out a devilish chuckle.  “What are you doing there?” His expression turns as he hears the voice of the owner of the cafe, and footsteps nearing him.  Greg nears the mysterious customer, “Sir. You’re not allowed here. This is a restricted area,” he told the stranger. The male turns to him, head covered with his large hoodie and his face half covered with a mask. Unfortunately, Greg couldn’t identify the male, no matter how hard he tried.  “I’m sorry. I was looking for the bathroom,” the other said, walking past the owner.  Greg, however, felt cautious. It didn’t look like he was lost. He knew fully well where he was. He grew worried about the trio’s safety all of a sudden. There was someone possibly spying or stalking them. However, he wasn’t too sure. There was still a possibility that he spoke the truth.  The room was silent after the agent’s introduction. She immediately felt the unwantedness of her presence with the trio in front of her.  “We’ll cut to the chase,” Daexoen said, standing from his seat to face the female agent,  “We’re not happy you’re here.” “Daexoen!” His uncle scolded him, “I’m sorry for his attitude, Agent,” he apologized, embarrassed about his nephew’s harsh words.  Daexoen rolled his eyes, “Let’s be frank, uncle,” he called out to the male agent. “Did you really expect we'd welcome someone who joined this case because everyone thinks we can’t handle it?” he said, his tone full of bitterness.  Styx stood up, placing a hand on the other male student’s shoulder, “Dae, relax” he told him before turning to the agent. “We’re not comfortable with you, because we don’t know you,” he said straight-forwardly.  “Styx!” his father scolded, but the other ignored him. Continuing to stare at the agent. She admits, she was quite intimidated by the two, but she stood her walls higher, “You don’t have quite a choice, do you?” she told them. “Whether you like it or not, I’m already part of the case.” Daexoen looked at her, “We know. That’s why we agreed to be here.”  “Then you don’t have a choice but to trust me with this one,” she said, making the male chuckle while Styx gave a mocking scoff.  “We didn’t have a choice but to let you in the case, but we never said about trusting you,” Styx said, his tone full of authority. “Trust is earned, agent. Prove it.”  The female agent then turned to Sage, “How about you, Sage?” Before the female could answer, they heard multiple knocks from the door. Shifting the attention of everyone in the room. “Greg? Something wrong?” Agent Brook asked, seeing the owner standing on the opposite side when he opened it. Greg now had a more serious expression than usual yet there was a hint of worry. “Someone was standing in front of the door.” Everyone in the room was now on alert. Daexoen couldn’t help but stand on his seat, while Styx stood where he was standing. Sage kept seated but her body was turned towards the direction of the door. Both Agent Kleio and Agent Dionne approached the other agent on the door frame.  “Where is he now? What did he look like?” Agent Kleio asked. Greg shrugged, “He was wearing a black hoodie and a mask. I couldn’t make a face of him,” he said. “He said he was lost, but he looked like he knew exactly where to find you.”  Agent Brook turned towards the three, “Stay here, we’ll see if we can find him,” he said, fixing his things as well as grabbing Agent Kleio’s. “It’s almost 12, you three should head for lunch. I think this will be it for the day.” Agent Kleio said, looking at Agent Dionne, “I’m sorry agent, but I think it’s best we finish this chat tomorrow.” The female agent nodded, understanding the other’s concern, “Not a problem, agent.”  Agent Brook approached them, “Let’s go. We’ll head for the station afterwards,” Agent Brook said, practically running, hoping to find the mysterious man. Following behind him was Agent Kleio, trying his best to catch up with his partner. Before Agent Dionne could follow, Sage called out to her, “Agent D.”  “You can still call me Aunt D, Sage,” she said, unhappy with the new call of the young female. Sage stared at her, “Agent Dionne,” she said, showing her disapproval, “I trust you with this case,” she said, making the agent smile with delight, but what she said next made the smile disappear, replacing it with a guilty look and pained expression.  “But I’ll never trust you with my life.”
