“What the hell are you doing here?” Daexoen exclaimed, about to approach the other.
The newly arrived female, however, ignored the male’s question and enthusiastically approached the agents. “Uncle Brook! Uncle Kleio!” She exclaimed, embracing the two with a tight hug. “I haven’t seen you for a long time! How are you?” She asked them.
The agents chuckled at the female’s loudness, “We’re fine” Agent Brook answered as soon as she let them go.
“Didn't you grow up well” Agent Kleio said before ruffling her head. “No longer a damsel princess?” He teased.
The other pouts, “No! And I would appreciate it if you would not remind me of my diva past.” She said, crossing her arms and turning away from the two agents, who were now chuckling at her childishness.
She then caught the sight of the eldest male of the three, her face lit up and she excitedly bounced on her feet, approaching the latter. “Styx! OMG! I missed you!” She exclaimed before practically pouncing at the boy, who luckily caught her in time.
He chuckled, “You haven’t changed a bit.” He said, making the female chuckle.
She pulls out of the hug yet her hands remain on the male’s nape, “Nope!” She said teasingly.
Before their conversation could go on, a firm grip was felt by the female. Daexoen roughly pulled her to the side, looking at her coldly.
“What are you doing here, Vienna?” he asked coldly.
The female winced before rolling her eyes at the other, “You don’t need to be so rude.” She said as she loosened his grip from her arm. “If you must know, I’m here for the exact same reason as you are.” she said.
She looks away from the male, making her notice a particular female. Someone she’s been dying to meet as soon as she heard about her. Vienna’s eyes lit up as she took a short amount of time examining the other female in the room.
“OMG! It's you!” she exclaimed as she bounced towards Sage, who until now was still confused about the female’s identity. “I’ve been dying to meet you!” She said before embracing Sage in a tight hug.
The other froze in her place, unable to react to the stranger’s sudden action. Confused was an understatement for the female. She had felt a bit out of place since the latter arrived. She felt a hole seeing everyone knew the stranger except for her. But what's more shocking is the sudden familiarity the female showed.
“Uh… Hi?” She reluctantly answered, trying her best to pry the woman away from her.
“Vienna. Enough,” Daexoen said as he pulled the stranger away from the younger.
Vienna gave a pout, “I hate you sometimes,” she said before giving up. “If you must know, my parents had the exact reason for sending you here.” She said, finding a seat to sit on before continuing her story.
Daexoen raised an eyebrow, “ The same reason?”
She nodded, “They said they were always out and that since auntie and uncle sent you here to live with uncle Brook they thought it was a good idea to do the same for me.” She said while looking around the station’s office.
“And I’m hearing about this just now?” Daexoen asked, turning towards his uncle.
Agent Brook was now rubbing his nape trying to avoid his nephew’s sharp look, “I might have forgotten to mention it.”
Vienna scoffed, “You’re upset? Think about how I’m feeling!” She suddenly exclaimed, “I don’t get why my parents decided to send me a month after you left. They could’ve just sent both of us at the same time.” She whined, slamming her head on top of the office table. “Now I have to go through the process of enrolling myself alone because of it” She continued to whine, letting out all her frustrations about her new environment.
Sage casually walks towards Styx, seeing as Daexoen was too busy to answer any of her questions, “Who is she?” She whispered at Styx, trying not to interrupt the other female’s rant.
However, it seems that her plan to not let the other female hear her failed. Vienna turns to see the curious female. She then realizes she never introduced herself to the two males’ friend.
“Oh! I’m sorry.” She suddenly said, standing up to approach the female. “I forgot to introduce myself. I’m Vienna. I’m 16 btw. Daexoen’s cousin and Uncle Brook’s niece,” she introduced herself, extending a hand towards the other.
Sage reluctantly accepts it, “Sage. An acquaintance.” She greeted her back.
The two males looked at her in shock, “Hey, what do you mean acquaintance?” Styx suddenly asked.
“She’s our friend.” Daexoen corrected the female. “Why would you say that?” He asked her.
Sage c****d her head to the side, “I thought we needed to know everything about each other to be friends?” she reluctantly answered. “You said that a few days ago. That’s why I thought acquaintance was a suitable term,” she added.
The two looked at each other and sighed, “That’s not what we meant, Sage” Styx said.
The other looked at them innocently, “I’m sorry. I must have interpreted it wrong,” she apologized, turning her attention back to the younger female. “I’m their friend,” she corrected herself.
The younger female looked at them surprised, “Uh, yeah,” she muttered.
The three then continued to have a conversation between themselves. Mostly, explaining to the youngest of the three about the concept of their friendship. Patiently trying to make her understand the context of their previous conversation a few days ago.
“Oh, so you can be friends without knowing everything about yourself?” the two nodded to her question. “But it just makes the friendship stronger and more reliable if you happen to know some details about each other’s past?” she continued to ask.
“Exactly. It’s just a way to properly know each other better” Daexoen said, enlightening the youngest.
“I see.” she muttered, deep into her thoughts. “Interesting” she whispered, yet it was loud enough for the two to hear.
The three continued with their own conversation, mindlessly forgetting about the other three people in the room. Vienna looked at them weirdly, making her way towards the two agents.
“Are they always like this?” she whispered to them, making the two chuckle at the female’s curiosity.
“Unfortunately, yes,” Agent Kleio said, giving the female a reassuring smile. “You’ll learn to get used to it.”
The other sighed, “And I thought I’d get to witness Daexoen’s rebellious and outgoing phase.”
“Just because I’m not interacting with the conversation doesn’t mean I can’t hear it.” Daexoen suddenly appeared. “Another thing, how did you know about Sage?” he asked.
“Well…” The other said, slowly looking at agent Brook. “Someone might have mentioned her to your parents, who mentioned it to mine, who told me about it” he reasoned out, not really trying to hide the identity of the culprit.
Daexoen looked at his uncle sharply, “I’ve never mistaken you for a gossip, uncle.” he said, looking at the older, with cold glances.
“But I am!” Vienna suddenly intervened, catching everyone’s attention. “What happened to your arm? And why are you here in the station?” she asked them.
The four males nervously looked at each other, while Sage remained a neutral look yet was also reluctant to say something, “It’s… A long story,” Styx said, hoping to make the other change her question.
“I’m here for the next 3 years. I have time,” she insisted.
Daexoen sighed, “We got into an accident a few days before, that’s why I have a cast. And we’re here to talk about something confidential,” Daexoen said, telling her half the facts she needed.
Before the other could refute, Agent Brook decided to end the topic then and there, “I think it’s best we all go home, don’t you think?” he said, forgetting about the supposed case they were about to tackle. The quintet found it more suitable to discuss it without the younger female.
They walked out of the station heading towards the parking lot. Thankfully, Agent Kleio left his car at the station when they decided to pick the three up from camp using just one vehicle. With another person added, one car wasn’t going to fit all 6 of them, especially when there were luggage and backpacks filling up more of the space. Styx had to move his things from Agent Brook’s car to his father, making them wait for a short while.
“Which reminds me, where are your things?” Daeoxen asked his cousin, realizing that the female only had a small backpack with her.
“Oh, my luggage is already at the apartment.” She said, showing the spare keys she had. “Uncle left the keys on the front desk. Then I decided to make a visit to the station. Luckily, you’re all there.” She added.
As soon as Styx finished loading his things into their car, they all bid farewell to one another. Although the two agents needed to report back to the station, the trio as well as Vienna needed to take a good rest. Especially because they’d either be going to school tomorrow or the three would have to end up back at the station.
“I’ll see you tomorrow.” Styx said to them, before entering his father’s car.
The two nodded, “take care” Sage said, entering the back seat of the car.
Daexoen was about to enter the passenger’s seat when Vienna had already beaten him to it, “You snooze you lose.” She mockingly said, before pointing towards the back seat.
The other sighed, making his way to the seat next to Sage. The usual silent ride to the female’s house was replaced with endless stories and conversation from the newly arrived relative the two males in the car had. Agent Brook listened to his niece attentively, giving comments and remarks between each of her stories, while the two at the back were quietly listening. Well, trying to. The two still couldn’t get over the hypothesis they made just a few moments before.
That information was quite hard to digest. It was something they weren’t expecting yet, for some reason, they weren’t surprised. Seeing the latest incident, they were 90% sure that the suspect could be in their age group. The worst thing is, they could be in the same school as they are.
“You two seem too quiet.” The thoughts of the two were immediately lost when they noticed the female in the passenger’s seat was now focusing on them. “A penny for your thoughts?” she asked them, even the agent was giving subtle glances from the rearview mirror.
“It’s nothing” they both said in chorus, making the youngest female coo at them.
“Well, don’t you think alike,” she teased them. “Now that I look at it, you look good together.”
