“And how do we do that?” Daexoen asked him, “Apart from knowing he’s from Deviox we don’t exactly know anything about him.”
Styx scratched his head, realizing that minor detail he failed to see. He laughed awkwardly before slowly moving to the side towards his seat. The four shook their heads in disappointment, unmoved by the male’s sad attempt.
“We can’t guard every female in the academy. That’s a lot of work at the same time I don’t think there's enough security in the station for that,” Sage said, as she walked back to her seat.
Daexoen sighed, “Unfortunately, we still need to wait to bring out more clues to this.” he said, walking back towards his seat next to the female.
“It’s not like we have a choice,” Agent Brook mumbled, “At least we have somewhat of a lead.”
There was a sudden silence between the five of them. The three however indulged back into their solemn state. The agents stood there, observing the three, amazed at how they interact with one another. There was no conversation, no eye contact and no special gestures, yet for some reason they felt how all three of them acknowledged one another. How they were in each other’s space yet in different worlds.
“We’ll head to the station then,” Agent Kleio said, bursting the peaceful bubble the three were in.
They looked at them, “I’ve been meaning to ask you, why are you here anyway? It’s barely 2 in the afternoon.” Styx said, checking his watch for confirmation.
“We were grabbing a cup of coffee,” Agent Kleio answered, showing them the take out cups the two agents were holding. “Greg then told us you were here, so we decided to see what you were up to.”
The three nodded, “Good luck with work then,” Daexoen said, taking a bit of the cake he ordered.
“Speaking of, where’s Vienna? Last time I remembered you were together to enroll her,” Agent Brook said, realizing that his niece was not one of the people in the room.
“Oh, she said she was meeting up with a friend,” Daexoen replied. “Which is one of the reasons why we're here.”
The agent looked at him and then the other three, “THen are you heading to the mall today?”
The three looked at him and then each other, “No. It’s too loud and crowded,” Sage answered for the three of them.
The two agents raised their eyebrows, “So you went out to stay here?” Agent Kleio asked, confused at them. “Then do what you normally do in the house?” This time he’s directing his question to his son.
“It’s different though,” he answered, not looking up from his laptop.
“And how so?”
He looked at his father before answering, “I’m with them.”
The two agents didn’t utter another word, leaving the room with the preoccupied students left in their own world. The two greeted the owner before leaving for the station. Unlike the previous times, the two were walking back, leaving their vehicles at their workplace seeing as the cafe is just a walking distance away.
“What did you think about their guess?” Agent Kleio started their conversation.
The other agent took a sip of his coffee before answering his partner, “Surprised,” he briefly answered. “Who would imagine someone as young and educated would be capable of doing such a horrendous crime.”
The latter nodded, “And the three?”
Agent brook looked at him in confusion, “What about them?”
He shrugged, “I don’t know. It seemed like an everyday question to ask.”
Agent Brook went silent. Their walk turned into a peaceful stray as the two mindlessly and silently walked towards the station. Agent Kleio was right, that had become an everyday question that they’ve been asking themselves. And although each day a different answer came by it still wasn’t enough to really understand them.
“I’m still worried about their safety,” Agent Brook confessed, seeing the building nearing. “Yet I’m impressed with their quick thinking.”
“They improved their personalities as well,” Agent Kleio suddenly admitted. “My son would rather stay in his room facing his laptop. However, today, he finally left the house, without any rant or complaints.”
The other nodded, “Daexoen would have headed home the minute his responsibilities were done,” Agent Brook said, channeling his past encounter with his nephew in similar occasions.
Agent Kleio chuckled, “I don’t know if I should be happy or disappointed,” he said, shaking his head. “They finally left the house willingly or the thought of them only socializing with each other.” He confessed, leading the two to chuckle at the trio’s complex personalities.
On the other hand, Vienna was still worried about her friend’s date. She knew she was being a bit overprotective, but she just couldn’t help but have this bad feeling. She didn’t want to ruin the other’s mood and upset her. Was she being too selfish?
“Olive, how sure are you with this guy?” she could help but ask.
The latter showed a bright smile, “I’m really hoping this is the one, Vi,” she admitted, Vienna felt like her stomach sunk down. “He’s an older student. He’s handsome and really smart. I wish he really is the one. He makes me smile, and laugh. And for the first time, I felt someone could really like me.”
Vienna’s lips curve into a frown hearing her friend’s insecurities, “Of course someone would like you! You’re an amazing person and anyone who couldn’t see that is either blind or stupid,” she tried to uplift the latter.
Olive chuckled at her friend’s giddiness, “I appreciate the compliments, Vi. But we both know regarding the standards of men, I’m not qualified,” she said before gesturing to her own body. “I’m not as slim as other girls, I’m not curvy as well. I have wavy hair that looks like a total bird’s nest if I don’t tie it. I wear glasses and I can’t even keep up with trendy clothes.”
Vienna felt like her heart broke, completely unaware of her friend’s deep insecurity with herself, “Olive–”
The other looked at her eye to eye, giving her a warm smile, “You don’t need to feel sorry for me. I’ve accepted that a long time ago,” she answered. “That’s why I really want this one to work. You do support me on this right?” she asked her with hopeful eyes.
It took a lot of effort for Vienna to stop herself from denying the latter. She really doesn’t want her friend to go on that date on Friday. But seeing that sparkled look on her friend’s face and hearing everything her friend just said, she could help but agree.
“I hope I don’t regret this,” She thought to herself, looking at her enthusiastic friend typing merrily on her phone.
