“I checked the entire cafe, there wasn’t anyone that looked like anything he described him as,” Agent Dionne said as she approached the two agents outside the cafe.
The two were huffing heavy breaths, clearly from running, hoping to catch the criminal. Unfortunately, it seemed like they were a minute too late as the alleged suspect was nowhere in sight. The two agents grunted in frustration.
Agent Kleio sighed, “We don’t have a choice,” he said, walking towards the parking lot of the cafe. “Let’s just head to the office.”
Agent Brook nodded before turning towards the female, “You need a lift?” he asked.
She shook her head, “I brought my car,” she answered, showing the agent her keys. “I’ll meet you at the station.”
The two agents got into the vehicle, driving off towards the nearby police station. Agent Kleio was taking the wheel, while Agent Brook couldn’t help but look at the car following behind them, knowing quite well it was the female agent.
“I don’t think the three would warm up to her quickly,” he told his partner, who answered him with a pitiful sigh.
“No they won’t,” he agreed, remembering the scene in the trio’s ‘club room’, “But that doesn’t mean they should have been rude to her.”
Agent Brook nodded, “Do we trust her?” he asked his partner once again. Honestly, it seems like the question was for both of them at that point.
The other agent looked at him for a few seconds before returning his focus to the road, “Maybe.”
The trio were now placed into a solemn silence. They were now back in their own bubble of reality, a space where they both ignore yet acknowledge the presence of one another. To tell it frankly, the boys were dying to ask the female about her familiarity with the female agent yet decided against it.
Minutes of silence passed by, until Daexoen suddenly looked up from his phone, looking at the other two. Luckily, he remembered a little detail they had all forgotten to bring up to one another.
“By the way, what are our plans later tonight?” he asked, causing the other two to fully acknowledge the presence of one another.
Sage raised her eyebrow, “tonight? What’s with tonight?” she asked them, confused at the sudden question.
“With you. You really don’t think you’re sleeping all alone tonight in that house, are you?” Daexoen questioned the youngest.
“I’m more than capable of taking care of myself,” she stubbornly replied, unamused by the boy’s choices of words.
Sage appreciated the concern and the effort the two males made for her, but she suddenly felt a little insulted by the other’s words. It made it seem like she wasn’t capable of fending for herself. She wasn’t as weak nor as fragile as everyone makes it seem of her.
Styx sighed, “That's enough from the both of you,” he told them, tired of the duo’s bickering. “Sage, we’re worried about you, that's why we’re asking.” he tried to explain to the youngest.
Daexoen calmed down before looking at the female as well, “I’m not saying you’re incapable of taking care of yourself, Sage,” Daexoen said, looking at the female with worried and pained expressions. “I’m worried about what could happen in the night. I’m worried you might get hurt, that’s why we’re settling this now.”
The female teen sighed in defeat, “I know. You 're just looking out for me. I apologize,” she said, knowing quite well that it wasn’t the older’s intention to insult her. “I’m not leaving the house. Plus, Jansen will be back home tomorrow.”
Thinking the problem was resolved, Styx suddenly remembered something, “I can’t join you,” she suddenly said, remembering the project he’s yet to finish for their class tomorrow. “I have to finish my project. I’m not even close to done yet. Sorry guys.” he apologized, rubbing the back of his neck in guilt.
“It’s fine. We’ll just see each other at lunch tomorrow then,” Daoxeon said before turning towards the female, “Guess it’s you and me tonight.”
The female smiled, nodding at him before returning to the book she was reading. Soon the three fell back into their own little world again. Only acknowledging the other is short periods of time.
Meanwhile, the agents entered their shared office space. The previously two-desk office had another extra table. The female agent thanked them as she seated herself in the comfort of the seat, fixing her things while the other two started their own work.
“Agent Dionne, I would like to apologize on behalf of my nephew,” Agent Brook suddenly told the new agent. He was still stuck on the rude introduction and the first impression they gave her.
Agent Kleio soon followed with his own apology, “I apologize for my son as well. They weren’t really the warmest people.” he said, giving her a guilty smile.
The female smiled at them, “It’s fine, agent. I wasn’t really expecting an immediate acceptance from anyone,” she confessed.
The two agents looked at her sympathetically, “We’re really grateful to have you in this case, Agent Dionne. But you see, those three are different,” Agent Kleio admitted, opting to brief the new agent about their personalities rather than having her find out for herself.
“They’re not like other students you might have encountered,” Agent Daexoen added.
Intrigued with the story behind the three, the female agent couldn’t help but ask, “How different could they be? What’s so special about them that they’re part of this case?”
The two agents went quiet for a moment, contemplating telling her, but decided otherwise, “Those three are incredible students. Their way of conceptualizing scenes and events is unbelievable. The way they think as individuals and as a group is something you wouldn’t see in a normal group of friends,” Agent Brook started, “They’re what we consider geniuses in their own ways.”
She raised an eyebrow, “In what way?” interested about the three.
“Styx is mostly in charge of their technological work. Daexoen and Sage have quite a broad and wide vocabulary of information. Their deduction and observation skills are close to incredible. Those three are really perfect for one another. A puzzle piece completed on its own,” Agent Kleio couldn’t help but voice out. " Those are one other reasons why they're brought into this case. They could see, notice, and do things even we couldn't."
Agent Brook nodded, “Yes. They’re incredible academically. But you see, agent, their EQ isn’t as high as their IQ is,” he suddenly said, remembering all the worried times he had for the three. “They’re emotionally dense people. While the two boys aren't as bad as the youngest, they both aren’t better either.”
“They’re great at masking. Observing other people’s reaction while creating options best suited for the situation they’re in. Think of it as practical reasoning. They don’t understand the person’s feelings because they truly understand them, but because they’ve figured out what and where the basis of that emotion is.” Agent Kleio continued, explaining the little detailed context about the trio. “Sage, on the other hand, has a hard time interpreting common emotions and actions related to those emotions.”
The female agent chuckled a little, confusing the other two. “She hasn’t changed that much,” she said, recalling the distant memories she had with the female student. “She looks exactly like her mother, but her attitude is her father’s. Even history repeats itself.”
The two agents looked at her confused, “Now that you’ve said that,” Agent Brook said, catching the female’s attention once again, “Judging by the scene in the cafe, you both knew each other. How?” he asked her, curious about the female’s relationship with the youngest and as to why she wasn’t as happy to see her.
Agent Dionne gave a weak smile, “You could say, I betrayed her.”
