Chapter 24: We had fun

2043 Words
It has been a couple of days since the accident happened, and until now the three were still unconscious. Sage, except for almost bleeding out yesterday, has some bruises and cuts on her head, hence the wrapped bandage around her head. Luckily for her, thanks to the two gentlemen she was saved from any broken or fractured bones. Just multiple stab wounds and scars from the knife. Styx, on the other hand, had a fractured ankle and some cuts on his arms and a bandage around his head because of the impact of the shelf. Luckily, he only had bruises and some cuts on his back from trying to shield Sage from the shelf. He wasn't able to break his back or fracture any important bones. Daexoen was a bit unlucky to have a broken arm between the three. He tried to hold the shelf up but failed miserably resulting in his arm getting crushed by the said furniture. He, like the other two, also had a bandage wrapped around his head. Inside their room were their guardians. Sage’s aunt, Daexoen’s uncle and Styx’s father. All three of them were just sitting next to their unconscious kin trying to look forward to their unknown consciousness. The agents as well as Sage’s aunt were supposed to be at their respective workplaces but they were fortunately allowed for a short leave due to the students’ accident, to be fair it doesn't look like any of them would be leaving the hospital anytime soon. “Daexoen?” Agent Brook called his nephew as he noticed the young boy slowly starts to flatter his eyes open. The young boy grunts as he tries to sit up, “Uncle? What happened?” He tried to recall his most recent memory. Daexoen then noticed a cast around his left arm. And like a fevered dream, he starts to remember the eventful day that happened before he fell unconscious. “You- “ The agent was cut off by his frantic nephew. The conscious student almost jumped from his bed, “The bookshelf! Sage was covered with blood! Where is she? Where’s Styx? Where are my friends?” he said, ignoring the pain from his throat as he continued to search for the two. Agent Brook held his nephew, preventing him from getting out of bed. “Relax, They’re over there. They still haven’t woken up yet” He said as he pointed towards the beds beside him. Daexoen felt relief washed over him when he saw the two in the same room as he was. The female's aunt stood up catching the male's attention, “I’ll call the doctor for you. I’ll also get us something to eat. I think you have things to talk about” Sage’s aunt insisted. “Thank you” Agent Kleio answered as he guided the woman out of the room’s door. When Hyuna left Daexoen asked for some water after realizing his throat was too dry for him to talk. It was even worse when he tried to scream looking for the other two. After getting some fresh water, Daexoen stayed quiet looking over the other two who were still unconscious. He was worried about their condition far more than his. Guilt starts to wind up as he looks at each bandage and cuts the two had that were visible from him. Fortunately, it wasn’t long enough, about five minutes since Daexoen woke up, that Styx started to gain his consciousness as well. “D-Dad?” Like Daexoen, Styx’s voice was also dry. Too hoarse for a clear sentence. Agent Kleio leaped towards the boy“Oh thank God, you’re awake” he said as he gently embraced his son. Styx taps his back, “W-water” He tried to call out. After drinking water, he looked at his side to see Daexoen slowly waving at him with his good hand. The male friend wasn’t too far from him. He answered the latter with a sympathetic smile before looking at the bed in between them, where he saw the still unconscious female. He gave a small frown seeing the state the youngest was in. Although he knew he and Daexoen were also in pretty bad shape, Sage was just absolutely terrible. “How long have we been out?” Daexoen asked. Agent Brook gave them a serious expression, "About two days. You three have a lot of explaining to do." The two looked at each other and to the girl in between them. Before either one of them could start, the doctor in charge suddenly entered the room to check on the two now awakened boys. "You're both covered with bruises and cuts but aside from your fracture and broken bone you're both alright. When Ms. Enigmeria wakes up please call me, she's still under tight monitoring" The doctor said before he left the room once again. After closing the door Agent Brook walks back to face the boys, "Now why don't we start at the beginning?" Daexoen initiates the confession, "First, I want to apologize Uncle Kleio, we shouldn't have brought Styx to this." Daexoen said, guilt washed over him "Styx I'm really sorry for approaching you, you got hurt because of this. Actually, it was all my fault why this happened. Sage tried to talk me out of this but I was so determined to help. If I just listened to her then we wouldn’t have ended up like this." He said, slowly lowering his head with guilt He regretted asking help from his childhood best friend. Guilt was eating Daexoen up ever since he laid eyes on the boy, the latter was covered with bruises and a fractured ankle. He felt even more guilty looking at the still unconscious female. Sage had declined to help in the first place but he was so determined to continue. He knew if he would have just declined to help Kylie before they wouldn’t have ended up in the hospital, they wouldn’t have been hurt. Styx grunts at his friend's apology, “Hey, stop blaming yourself. I’m happy that you wanted my help. Before I agreed I already knew the possible consequences if I joined and I didn’t care. So it’s not your fault” He tried to reassure the younger “So, what truly happened?” Agent Kleio asked. "Sage and I were at Uncle Greg's cafe, a student asked us for help regarding her friend. I forced Sage to agree to help her. Sage then started to get death threats, I asked Styx for help to track the number and he agreed and well we caught the criminal and here we are." Daexoen answered, giving a brief and subtle summary about the case they were placed into. “Why were you at that hotel? And what happened between the two girls?” Agent Brook asked. "I tracked down the number, and we found out the president was in trouble. Sage wanted her to confess first for evidence but we didn’t calculate the possibility of her having any weapons” Styx answered. Frustrated, Agent Brook ran his hands on his head, "And you didn't tell us this?" Agent Brook couldn’t help but raise his tone with the two's given information. Agent Kleio wasn't any calmer, “That girl was crazy! You should have told us! Do you know how worried we were when we got a call saying you’re at that hotel instead of school?! What if that girl was still in the hotel? What if we weren’t fast enough to arrive at your school?! You could have been in a worse situation! Yes, we get it you’re smart but you’re still a group of teenagers and what you did was stupid!” Agent Kleio exclaimed. The two stayed quiet under the angry agents’ glare. They knew that they had the utmost reason to be angry at them. They knew they were worried for them, and how terrified they were finding out what they’ve been through. “I’m sorry. It’s all my fault if I didn’t convince Sage to help and got Styx into this we wouldn’t have been here” Daexoen insisted, with intentions to lessen the blame for the two. “It’s not your fault” The four looked at the just awoken female, who was looking at Daexoen with a small sympathetic smile. “I agreed because I saw the look you had. You looked so determined. You looked like your uncle” Sage added. Agent Brook glanced at his nephew with a confused glaze before looking back at the female. While Daexoen stayed quiet, he understood what the younger meant. Ever since he was little he always looked up to his uncle, he was even the reason why Daexoen wanted to take forensics. He wanted to be like him. And maybe at that time he felt as if he really was like his uncle. Sage then turned towards Agent Kleio, “I'll be honest, I didn’t want Styx to get involved at first but we needed him. And he was interested in the case. Every time I looked at him typing on his laptop even though he was frustrated he looked happy for some reason” Sage added, looking at the other male student. Sage then again tilts her head looking at the walls of the room, “Sometimes I don’t understand the rational reason behind those emotions and behaviour but I do understand we were a bit happy doing this.It was a thrilling entertainment, I do admit. However, it was also my fault for not convincing them to end the case earlier. I also didn’t calculate the possibility of her having a weapon as well as having the ability to use the furniture in the room. I apologize.” The younger said as she bowed slightly at the two. The two students looked at her endearingly “Sage. Like you said we had fun. We agreed” Daexoen tried to comfort the youngest. Styx chuckled, “Yeah, it was our fault at least we helped someone and we had fun doing it, right?” he said. The two Agents shook their heads at the trio, it was indeed a touching sight to witness. “Okay, we’re happy that you helped someone." Agent Brook started off. "But next time tell us if you plan on taking a favor like this again so we can protect you. Although we can clearly see how capable you three are, you’re still a bunch of misfit students” Agent Brook said, earning a nod from the three. After their little discussion Agent Kleio stood up to exit the room, “I’ll call the doctor, and look for your aunt." A few minutes later the doctor came into the room alone. Meaning Agent Kleio was still out looking for the female's aunt. After a few check ups with the youngest, “Your cuts and bruises are getting better, your shoulder is still healing so you should lay off pressure from that side. You three should be alright to leave by tomorrow. We still need to see if there are other complications with the three of you especially toward Ms. Enigmeria.” The doctor said, giving them a kind smile before leaving the room once again. As the doctor left, Sage’s aunt and Styx’s father came in after but to their surprise they weren’t alone. Behind them was a woman who kept her head down, ashamed to face the trio. Although they were curious who the unintroduced woman was, their attention quickly shifted to Sage’s aunt as she enthusiastically leaped towards the teenager. She held the female's hand, “Sage! Thank goodness you’re alright. Do you know how worried we were when we got a call saying you were at the hospital” She said as she went near her niece. The teen c****d her head, “Worried?” She whispered, looking curiously at her aunt. Hyuna nodded, “Yes, worried. I didn’t know what to do." The younger seemed to realize her aunt's words, “Oh. I apologize. But I’m okay." Although it was a heartwarming sight, Styx couldn't help but ask the adults. “Who is she?” he points towards the unfamiliar lady.
