Chapter 33: Fated

1777 Words
They turned their heads to a newly arrived boy. He was panting, his uniform was messily done and his hair was as in haywire, you could clearly see he was in a rush coming to school so late. But what was most shocking for everyone, especially the two male, was that he personally knew Sage. The female gave a puzzled expression, “Scath? Why are you here?” Sage asked the boy. “I’m the council Secretary. You?” The boy named Scath answered. “Ms. Jennica called for me. You never told me you were in the student body." She told him. The boy slowly walked towards her, caressing the female's hair as he stood in front of her, “We never got a chance to talk,” he said to her with such fondness. Scath’s sudden appearance wasn’t what caught the Daexoen’s and Styx’s attention but the sudden familiarity he had with their youngest. They look at each other before turning back to the boy. For some reason they didn’t like the closeness and comfort the two had. “You know each other?” Styx asked, causing the female to back away from her childhood friend. “Yes. Our parents were friends” Sage briefly answered. “Come on, we were friends as well” Scath sulkingly said. He then turns towards the two, “I’m Scath by the way. Sage and I have known each other since she was in first grade. Like she said our parents were friends and so were we if you look past the age gap.” he boasted, casually placing his hand on her head. “He convinced me to transfer here when my parents died, '' Sage added, before removing the said male's hand. Everyone in the room then went quiet. Aside from Scath they didn’t know Sage lost her parents. Her two friends looked at her with sadness in their eyes. They felt a little guilty not knowing everything about the girl, not just guilty but also upset. They’re upset that someone outside of the trio knows much more than they do. “I’m sorry” Margaux decided to break the silence, causing everyone to look at her. “For what? It wasn’t your fault” Sage looked at her confused. Daexoen gently pulled Sahe between him and Styx, “They know that Sage, they just felt sad for you” Daexoen explained. “Oh, I’m okay. It’s already been 2 years.” She casually said before turning to the two, “Can we go now? I have classes” The two nodded, “Right, let’s go” Styx said before leaving the puzzled council members. “We’ll be going,” Sage told them, as Styx held the door open for the two. “Wait, I heard you were in the hospital. Sorry I can’t visit. But if you need something just call okay? You know you’ll always have me.” Scath said to her, holding Sage’s hand while gently rubbing the back of her palm. The two saw red, “That’s nice but we got this.” Daexoen interjected before grabbing the female's hand and pulled her to leave, both male gave a dirty glare at the other boy before completely closing the room door. When the three left Scath just looked at them with a playful grin on his face. He could clearly see the irritation and annoyance the two had while he was talking to her. Honestly, he didn’t know how to feel, if he should be happy that the younger found friends on her own, or hurt knowing that she doesn’t need him anymore. “You never told us you were friends” Trex suddenly said. “You never asked,” he teased before settling down on his chair. “Before that, don’t you think that was strange?” Fenice suddenly asked. “What was?” Keios asked, confused at her words. “The way Sage casually said that about her parents. Like I know it’s been 2 years but if that was me even after 5 years I would still be a bit moved by my parent’s death” Fenice said. “And when she asked why Margx was sorry,” Trex added. Fenice nodded, “Right, and when Daexoen and Styx explained it to her it was like they were used to it." She continued “Hey! Stop talking about them behind their back” Margaux scolded. “We’re not saying anything bad about them, it’s just weird” Keios defended. “But it’s not weird for them,” Scath suddenly said. Everyone’s attention was fixed at him, even Than who was minding his own business was now listening to them. “Sage is very intelligent. She excels at almost everything, I don’t even know why they needed Styx. Ever since she was little she was really gifted with knowledge but she lacked emotional understandment. She doesn’t understand why people could get sad, angry and she’s not too keen on affections. I guess they also know that” Scath explained. “So those two became a dictionary of emotions for her?” Fenice asked. Scath held his nape, “Uh, maybe. But it’s nice to know she has someone” he answered with a genuine smile. “But do you guys think one of them likes her?” Keios asked suddenly. “Maybe, I mean not only is she smart but she’s really pretty as well,” Fenice said. “Right? If I didn’t have a girlfriend I’d try and pursue her” Trex jokes. “No way, did you see how those two looked at Scath when he talked to her? They looked like they were ready to commit arson” Keios exaggerated. “They did look like they were protective of her” Margaux said, finally joining in on their conversation. “How about you Than? No comment?” Keios asked the quiet vice president. The Vice president looked at him annoyed, “The hell do I care about them?” He answered before continuing his work. Hearing this the members laughed, “Okay that’s enough, the others just texted me that they’re on their way.” Margaux ended their conversation. The three were walking towards the highschool campus, specifically Sage’s building department. It was a short discussion for the two boys to escort the youngest, which she didn’t try to disagree with knowing quite well how stubborn the two are. However, she couldn't help but notice the strange atmosphere around them. “Why are you two quiet?” Sage asked them but they didn’t answer her. She stopped her tracks, “Guys? Are you upset? You look bothered, is something wrong?” She asked them. Daexoen and Styx halt on their feet as well. They looked at her, every detail of her face was memorized by the two as if they were trying to remember their friend. “We just realized. We don’t actually know each other that much” Styx confessed as they started to walk once again. “What do you mean?” She looked at them, puzzled with the confession. “We mean, aside from your name and age we don’t personally know you” Daexoen said. “Oh, I didn’t think we needed to discuss that,” Sage suddenly said. “I thought we would just learn as we go. I’m sorry, I didn’t think telling you guys about my life was important for our friendship. If you want we can talk about it after class." She added, trying her best to settle the little problem. If other people were to say this or heard her say this they would think she’s arrogant and sarcastic but the two knew she was genuinely sincere with every word. They gave her a small smile, agreeing to her suggestion. They really wanted to know one another. They wanted to know about her life before and they wanted her to know about them. It was actually a mutual thing, since the female also didn’t know that much about the two boys but they were hoping to change that. Although they wanted to get to know her past as well as her present they were also moved by the thought that the female trusted them. They were moved by the thought that she was willing to open up to them as well as she genuinely thought that their friendship was already strong even without that discussion. “Then we’ll meet each other by the gate?” Styx asked once they reached the door to Sage’s room. She nodded, “See you later,” Sage said before entering the room. The two boys headed to their own school campus. As they walk the halls of the academy it seems they both had a mutual understanding about the Council's secretary. Both can’t seem to hide their dislike for the female’s childhood friend. For some reason they both didn’t like the closeness the council Secretary had with Sage. They didn’t like the mischievous smile he gave them while they were leaving. They didn’t like the way he looked at her when they were talking. It wasn't that they were jealous- Maybe a little, but the sole reason was that they didn't feel good about him. They had a feeling that that boy was up to no good, that he shouldn’t be trusted. “I don’t have a good feeling with that guy” Daexoen said before he parted with Styx. “I don’t either. It may sound too possessive but I don’t want her near him.” Styx confessed, giving off a more serious aura than usual. They gave each other a knowing nod before parting their ways to go to each of their departments. The silent agreement between the two secured their minds, trusting each other to protect the youngest. It wasn’t any romantic jealousy, it was more like a brotherly protection. They see her like a sister even though it only has been less than a month since they were together but this sudden connection they have was different. It was like having the three of them together fits perfectly to their life puzzle. Call it weird but Daexoen believes it was fate that they met the female, it was fate that they were involved in this case. They were just Fated. But at the very corner of the corridor the two failed to notice a dark shadow behind them, a shadow of a grinning man. A man who also knew he was fated with the female much more than everyone else. A man who everyone hunts but never sees.
