Sage just looked at the heavily breathing males in front of her. Surprised was an understatement. She was expecting any of them to barge in all of a sudden. She felt this warmth inside her seeing the efforts the two made for her.
“Why are you so exhausted?” she mindlessly asked, seeing the drops of sweat the two males had on their foreheads. “Did you run? All the way here?”
The two nodded, tiredly walking towards the living room couch. Their bodies fell on top of the soft cushion. Sage looked at them with amusement, turning up the Air Conditioning in the room.
“Why didn’t you just let your uncle and father drive you?” she suddenly asked them. The two raised their heads, realizing that little factor. The two groaned in frustration, letting their heads fall back onto the couch.
“I did not think of that,” Styx admitted, grabbing a pillow and placing it on top of his head.
Daexoen groaned, “I was too worried to think straight,” he said, eyes shut, keeping himself calm and relaxed.
Sage grinned at the two’s idiotic yet heroic decision, “Well, would you like some drinks?” she asked them, which the two answered with an immediate yes.
She chuckled as she approached the kitchen fridge, taking out a pitcher of cold ice tea. As she poured out the cold drinks into the glasses she felt this cold chill behind her. She turned around, unfortunately, there wasn’t anyone there. Attempting to get back on her previous task, she noticed the kitchen window was now open.
“As far as I remember, I closed this window before the call,” she muttered to herself as she slowly approached the open window.
She paused midway, sensing a different kind of feeling. She started to have a bad feeling yet decided to continue her way towards the window. She slowly looked out the opening on the wall, greeted by their backyard garden. It was in total darkness, only gaining light from the fully lit house. Sage then took a glimpse at the nearby tree at the end of the backyard. She squinted her eyes, trying to figure out if there was anything suspicious behind the tall plant.
When the youngest left, two males noticed the still operating video call they had. Their cameras were still functioning, leaving them to see their empty rooms and gaping doors. The two chuckled at their desperate gesture.
“We didn’t actually think this through, did we?” Styx said, looking at the laptop monitor.
Daexoen sighed, “No. We did not.”
Luckily for them, both their uncle and father happened to enter their room at the same time, seeing the still ongoing video call. With teasing smirks, the two approached the devices on the desk of the two male students.
“Well, wasn’t somebody in such a rush,” Agent Kleio teased.
Agent Brook grinned, “You bolted out the door so fast I could even catch up with you,” He said directly at Daexoen, who just gave him an embarrassed smile.
“You didn’t even think about asking for a ride,” Agent Kleio told his son, “I’m sure you’re both exhausted from the sprint you two pulled off.”
The two boys rubbed the backs of their necks, “We admit. It wasn’t the smartest decision,” Daexoen confessed, causing the two agents to chuckle.
“No, it wasn’t,” Agent Brook agreed, “But it’s alright. As long as you're both safe.”
Agent Kleio nodded, “I’m assuming you’re both staying for the night,” he said, earning a nod from them, “Alright. Do you want us to pick you up tomorrow?”
The two shook their heads, “We might be going to uncle Greg’s tomorrow. If you want to meet us, we’ll be there.” Styx answered.
The two agents raised their eyebrows, “You don’t have school?” Agent Kleio asked.
The two shook their heads, “Everyone who was involved in the camp will be back on Wednesday,” Daexoen answered.
“Alright then,” Agent Brook said. “We’ll see if we could bring the new agent to introduce you to each other.”
The two students just looked at each other, still reluctant about this new addition. “I know you’re hesitant, so are we. But we don’t have any other choice.” Agent Kleio said, seeing the expression the two had. “At least be nice,” he added.
The two just nodded, “Speaking of, where’s Sage?” Agent Brook asked, seeing the missing teen.
The two boys looked at each other. The two then noticed the prolonged disappearance of the youngest, turning towards the kitchen doorway. No signs of the youngest coming out.
“She’s in the kitchen. We should probably check on her,” Daexoen said, attempting to leave the couch.
“Alright. Text us if something happens. I’ll turn your laptop off.” Agent Brook said, earning a short thank you from his nephew before turning off the call.
“I’ll go as well. Take care of yourselves.” Agent Kleio followed, ending the call all out.
The two entered the kitchen, seeing the youngest looking out the window, “Sage? Is something wrong?” Styx asked, entering the room, followed by a worried Daexoen behind him.
“You were taking a long time. What’s wrong?” Daexoen asked.
Sage looked back at the tree before entirely closing the gaping window, “Nothing,” she answered, walking back to the kitchen counter. “Here,” she said, handing them the glasses she had filled.
As the two silently drank the cold drink, Sage couldn’t help but look around the room, which the two found quite odd.
“So, when will you be going home?” Sage asked the two, who had just finished their iced tea. “It’s almost 9 in the evening,” she added, looking at the clock on the kitchen wall.
The two boys looked at each other, “Sage, we’re staying for the night,” Daexoen started, having a silent agreement with the other male.
“What?” she asked, “Would the two agents be alright with that?”
“Yeah, they just called.” Daexoen answered, “Don’t worry, we could sleep in the living room.”
Sage thought about the recent events in her house. It’s not that she’s scared for her well-being, but she’s worried about whatever could happen to them. She was especially worried about the two boys. She mentally grins as she recalls her just emotion. Worried. She wasn’t really worried about anyone before. She guessed Scath was right, she really did change.
“No. You could sleep in my room,” She suddenly told them. “You’ll have to sleep on the floor though.”
The two looked at her hesitantly, “Are you sure? We’re really fine in the living room,” Styx asked her.
She nodded, taking the used glasses from the two males, “Yeah.”
The two didn’t say anything. Although they were reluctant, they just agreed to the female’s proposal. Though they both knew nothing would happen between them. And honestly, it seemed like it was a better idea, especially with the recent events they were involved with.
They went upstairs towards the female’s bedroom. Sage left for a moment, leaving the two males to explore her room. Although Daexoen has been here once, he didn’t really have a good look around the youngest’s room. Looking at it more, the female actually had quite a neutral taste in style. The bedroom was actually spacious. The walls were painted a light gray color. Her bed was placed in the middle of the room, there wasn’t anything placed on either side. However, her study table was placed adjacent to the door, and the wall adjacent to her bed was a door Daexoen concluded was her closet. And just above the door, a few centimeters to the left, was a television.
“You two should take a quick shower first. You’re both drenched in sweat.” Sage said as she entered the room. Handing them a pair of clothes and a towel. “It’s Jansen’s. I’m sure he wouldn’t mind.”
The two reluctantly took the clothes from the youngest. “Unfortunately there's only one bathroom,” she told them.
“It’s fine. Daexoen can go first, I’ll just wait here and help Sage with the comforter,” Styx suggested.
“Alright, I’ll show you the way,” Sage said, leading the male out the room.
They walked towards the farthest door in the hall. However, it wasn’t that far, seeing as there were only 4 doors. One for each member of the family, except for the married couple who share a room.
“Here’s the bathroom, everything you need is there,” Sage said, opening the bathroom door.
Before she could leave, Daexoen asked her a strange question, “Oh. You showered before we arrived?”
Sage looked back, seeing the hot fog coming from the bathroom, as well as the wet floor. She froze for a moment, unsure how to answer the older.
“Yeah. I did,” She lied.
