Chapter 3: Who Kills For Fun?

1467 Words
Agent Brook has been walking around in circles in front of the autopsy room waiting for the results. Until now he can't seem to get what the young teen said out of his head.  "Was she right, uncle? Is this really a serial killing?" his nephew asked while looking at the door of the room as well.  He suddenly remembered the presence of his nephew. He was so caught up with the case that he just forgot about him. He looks at the young boy, he couldn’t help but worry seeing the sudden interest of the boy. As much as possible he’d rather have him stay at home than involve himself in his uncle’s career. He worriedly said, "Daexoen, You shouldn't get involved with this. Thank you for helping out earlier but you should stay out of it." "I know. But I just want to know, is it really a serial killing?" "I don't know, that's why you should be careful. Until now we still don't know the motive for the killings and what connection the victims have with one another” he sighed looking back at his nephew, “What happened earlier at the cafe, never did it come to my mind that it would be a serial killing. We thought it was just murder but with what she said I guess it wasn't."  "She was fascinating." The agent looked at his nephew as he said those words with admiration. "Her senses and significant knowledge-ability were beyond excellent. Her intelligence is uncanny, to think she saw those dots, to know all that stored information."  He looked at his ready to leave nephew, "You were also amazing. You both helped us get that information."  His nephew gave a short shake of the head, indicating his uncle’s wrong conclusion, "No, you should have seen her uncle, her mannerism, and the way her eyes shift from the sides indicating she had a lot more to say but didn't... Couldn't" He seriously said He looked at him with a curious gaze, "Are you saying she's hiding something from us?" This added questions to the agent’s head. "Maybe… I'll go ahead then, I don't feel like eating today, I want to rest. My brain hurts from all that information" the boy said as he left, waving to his uncle. Thoughts spiraled down the agent's mind to the information his nephew said. Did she have any stored information kept from them? What else does she need to say? Is it connected to the case? Why isn't she saying it? His thoughts and questions immediately washed out as his attention shifted to the doors slowly being opened. The examiner then went out of the room with a folder clenched to his chest. Not only did he ask for the current victim's information as well as the other two victims before. They were suspected to be the other two victims referencing the date of their murder. All victims were killed on the same day of the previous 2 and current week, Friday. With the information given by the teenager, a new autopsy examination was placed to find out if it were true, it was.  "Agent Brook, it looks like the claims of these serial killings were true. We checked the bodies of the first two victims, as well as the third, and all of them had marks on their wrists. It was small and could have been easily overlooked by any examiner. Amazing how a mere teenager could identify that. Here are the final results." The examiner said, handing the folder of information. After thanking him, the examiner soon left the hall. After a few minutes, Agent Kleio went towards him with another folder and coffee. The folder contained all the personal information of the victims. Address, work, school, friends, family, and everything else.  "Dude, here is all the information of all three victims, and nothing here leads them to each other. Different lines of work, different schools, and different families not even once have they met. It's really hard to identify this as serial killing. There are no signs of any motive for the killing. Maybe it's just coincidental?" "That's impossible. Each victim has those dot patterns. I don't think it would be a coincidence by now. That girl was right" Agent Brook refuted as he showed his partner the files from the autopsy report, showing him the pictures of the small dots on each of the victim's wrists. "Incredible, that kid is astonishing! She actually saw these?" "Yes, she was. But what's the reason? Why would that person kill them? Other than these dots there isn't anything to link them to. Why would they kill? For entertainment?" Agent Brook muttered. "That's psychotic, what sane person would do this? Who kills for fun?" ~~~~ Sage quietly walked her way to their house. She also couldn't get the scene at the cafe out of her mind. She really didn't care at first but there was something about that scene that just keeps on bugging her. "Sage! What happened?" her aunt immediately asked as soon as she entered their house. She took off her shoes and looked her aunt, "Nothing Auntie, there was just a murder in the cafe" "What?! Are you okay? Did they find the suspect? Are you hurt?" Her aunt frantically asked her. "I'm fine and no, unfortunately, he wasn't caught. It was cyanide poisoning. He might have left before the death occurred. I'm fine, they just suspected me as a suspect but I got to reason it out. By the way, they might call and ask for me to go to the station I gave them our hotline." She said as she moved her way to the staircase. "If you say so, I finished cooking. Let's wait for your cousin and uncle. I'll just call you" she nodded her head as she continued to climb the stairs until her aunt couldn't see her anymore.   "Hon? What’s wrong?” Her husband asked, he just arrived when he caught his wife sitting on their couch dazing and face full of worry. "I'm just worried about her." She answered, standing up to meet her husband.   "We all are, but Sage is old enough. We can't force nor control the kid. Let's just support and guide her." Her husband tried to calm her down with a hug.  "I'm worried, Eric. What if something happens to her? What if something happened to her like what happened to my sister? Eric, I can't handle that. She might not be ready to open her heart to us yet but, I love my niece and I can't bear to see her suffer.  She- she's not well understood by her peers what if-" she was crying, fear and worries both evident in her voice.   "Shhh, we're here to understand her. Stop crying, Hyuna. Nothing's gonna happen to her, I promise." He hushed her. They didn't know that throughout their whole conversation, Sage was listening behind the staircase. The female couldn’t help but lean against the wall.  “Don't worry auntie, I might not open up to you as you said but I also am very fond of you. I don’t know why you keep worrying about me, but I hope you stop.” She thought amongst herself. "Hey” She looked to her side to find her older cousin looking at her. She gave him a stern look before proceeding to her room, "You're here. I thought auntie said you haven't come home yet." "I guess she didn't see me," The young girl just nodded her head and went to her room to change. "Mom's right, you know." Her cousin said, as he followed her in her room.  She looked at him confused, "Huh? Right about what?" "About you," he reluctantly answered. "Me? About what?" He looked her dead in the eyes, "About getting hurt one day." "I don’t understand. Please get to your point.” Sage demanded.  "What if something really does happen, Sage? Think of yourself. Aren't you afraid to die?" "I don’t know. Honestly, I'm not a good person. I'm not even feeling the need to miss my parents.  How come? I don't hate them, I also knew I l-loved them but why can't I feel the space that they left? Is this really normal? Why can't I fear being alone?"  "Sage-"  She gave herself a small grin, "I couldn't even cry in front of my own parent's grave," "How pathetic" her cousin just looked at her, unable to create words to speak.  "You should tell auntie that you're home, I'm going to change and meet you at the dining table," she said as she closed the door on him. Her cousin looked at the now-closed door with sadden eyes, "You don't need to be normal,"
