The castle was shaking.
Really shaking. The walls trembled with every impact.
The bells wouldn’t stop ringing. A deep, irritating sound that gave everyone a headache.
After centuries of pretending everything was fine, the ancient clans had finally come knocking at the door.
Kelly stood on the balcony, her sweaty hands pressed against the cold stone.
Her heart was pounding like a drum.
A week ago, she was organizing books at the bookstore. Now there was a war happening because of her.
It was absurd.
“Kelly!”
Jasmine.
She arrived quickly, her face serious. Not the face of a queen.
The face of a woman who was afraid.
“You’re going inside. Now.”
“No,” Kelly answered immediately.
Jasmine frowned.
“Kelly, it’s dangerous.”
“Exactly. I want to see. I want to understand why everything is happening because of me.”
Jasmine stared at her for a long moment.
Too long.
Then she let out a sigh.
“Fine. But you don’t move away from me. If you feel anything strange, you tell me.”
Kelly almost smiled.
“Deal.”
---
Down below, in the courtyard, everything was chaos.
Stéphane was shouting orders. Guards were running everywhere.
Alain, standing beside him, watched the forest carefully.
“There are too many of them,” Alain said.
Stéphane tightened his grip on his sword. His knuckles turned white.
“Let them come.”
He glanced toward the balcony.
“The queen isn’t alone this time.”
---
The doors exploded.
Not opened.
Exploded.
Wood scattered everywhere.
And then they appeared.
An army.
At the front stood Alex Côme.
Black shirt, crooked smile.
Like he had come for tea.
“Queen Jasmine,” he said, barely bowing.
Jasmine walked down.
Kelly followed behind her, her legs trembling, but she kept moving.
“Alex.”
“Give us the girl,” he said simply. “And no one dies tonight.”
Kelly felt anger rise inside her.
“I’m not some object you can pass around, you understand?”
Alex looked her up and down.
“Ah. So it’s you.”
He shook his head, amused.
“Incredible.”
Jasmine stepped in front of her.
“Touch her and I’ll kill you.”
“Still so passionate, Jasmine,” Alex replied. “It’s cute. But it makes you foolish.”
He snapped his fingers.
And everything exploded.
Noise.
Screams.
Black flashes of energy flying everywhere.
Kelly pressed herself against a pillar.
She didn’t understand anything she was seeing.
Everything was happening too fast.
Then a man rushed straight toward her.
Fangs exposed.
She panicked.
She raised her hands instinctively, as if that could protect her.
A hit.
Not a punch.
Something else.
The vampire was thrown backward.
He flew across the courtyard and crashed into a wall.
Silence.
Even the swords stopped for two seconds.
Kelly looked at her hands.
They were trembling.
“What… what did I do?”
Stéphane froze.
“That… that power…”
Alain cursed quietly.
“Damn. The prophecy.”
---
Far away, George watched everything through a mirror.
His expression suddenly darkened.
“She awakened it.”
Behind him, Mégane smiled.
“I told you.”
George slammed his fist on the table.
“We have to kill her now. Before she understands.”
---
Jasmine returned to Kelly.
She gently held her face in her hands.
No gloves.
No distance.
Just her cold hands against Kelly’s skin.
“Look at me. Are you okay?”
Kelly nodded.
She was lying.
“I… I don’t know what that was.”
“Shh,” Jasmine whispered. “Don’t worry. I won’t let you go.”
Kelly closed her eyes for a second.
Deep inside her, there was something.
Something warm.
Something alive.
And it frightened her.
Because outside, the screams had started again.
And this time…
It was only the beginning.
