5 Getting settled Trish POV

1056 Words
So this charming woman and I continue our conversation. I tell her I am in fact new to this town and that Mr. Woods over there (I point back over my shoulder at him) picked me up from the airport by the request of the college to give me a ride to the dorms and we just happened to stop in for coffee and a bite to eat. She introduces herself as Mrs. Sonya and laughs about Mr. Woods being such a devoted regular that, even when duty calls, he still manages to find his way in. She proceeds to tell me that Chris is a very good young man and is just what I need. She must have seen the look on my face (as I was thinking to myself, how in the heck, does she know that I need him) because she immediately clarified by telling me she meant for him to show me around town, to "get the lay of the land". She said that she knew I would enjoy getting to know him as well (with a wink). I'm really starting to think that Mrs. Sonya knows more than she lets on, that she's just really good at covering it up and now that I'm really thinking about it, I get the same kind of feelings from her that I did Mr. Woods. Almost as if Mia recognizes her in some way but unsure of what that really means. As with Mr. Woods it feels like a positive recognition and doesn't make me uncomfortable in the slightest, so we will just go with her suggestions and seemingly good nature for the time being and see where it goes. I mean, following these feelings I get is what led me here to my fated. So, if you ask me, following them is definitely the right way to go. She took my order, handed me my food and coffee. She then told me that Chris gets off at two and to just meet him back here then. That definitely sounded like a demand more that a suggestion but it just made me smile once again. I just met her and she is already growing on me. I then asked her for directions to the dorm office as all I have with me is my carry on bag and wouldn’t mind just making my way back to the dorms to get settled there before being back here at two. She gave me directions and sent me on my way with also informing me that she would let Mr. Woods know he has successfully shirked duty once again. Chuckling a little, I made my way to the door, turned back slightly, thanked her once again and told a bemused looking Chris it was nice to meet him and I would see him at two. Thoroughly enjoying the look on his face I made my exit. I slowly made my way from Sonya’s cafe to the dorms office. All the while taking in everything around me as I feel like I’ll be so busy trying to get to know my fated while he’s showing me around that I don’t believe I’ll be paying to much attention to what is going on around us. In the dorms office I speak to a very firm looking women who is obviously irritated, who made a call about why a student was showing up now to move into the dorms for next semester. I only THOUGHT she was cranky until I heard bits and pieces of what was coming from the other side of the phone. Well then, she’s definitely changed her tude and is now walking me to my room. Mentioning on the way that she wasn’t sure if my roommate would be in or not. I’m a little worried now as a roommate wasn’t talked about whenever I was told they had an opening in a dorm for me. I guess I should have just assumed as most colleges have shared rooms in there dorms but it had been so long since I looked into this college, I’ll be honest about the fact that I didn’t really remember much about it. Just once I got that feeling, I KNEW this is where I was meant to go. We made it to the end of a hall after going up some stairs and taking a few turns. Mrs. Grumpy but not the grumpiest (as I’m now calling her, since she never thought there was a need to introduce herself) knocks, gets no answer and then unlocks the door with the key in hand to let us both in. After a few comments about my roommates' cleanliness and the dorm rules, she left me with my key and headed out. Standing here with just my own thoughts on her comments about how I don’t personally feel like my roommate is a slob. It just appears she has more clothes than she knows what to do with. As a matter of fact, most of the clothes lying around are on hangers and it looks as though she has pulled them along with everything else lying around out of the second closet that is now stacked with the boxes that I shipped ahead of me. She must have been here for a long while on her own before she got stuck with me coming in as her new roommate, during a semester that’s nearly finished. Great, she’s going to hate me already and hasn’t even met me yet. Don’t get me wrong, if someone chooses to just not like me, I’m OK with that. I’m not everyone’s cup of tea, but my arrival has definitely put a huge stick in her already in motion spokes and that just sucks. Well, now that I’m here and have time to kill with nothing else better to do at the moment, I might as well unstack my boxes and start going thru them all and get everything put away. I have the money for just as many clothes as my roommate but choose to live simply, so it shouldn’t take me too long to get myself sorted. Maybe she won’t totally hate me after all, because I think I’ve decided I will let her use half my closet space, since I won’t be needing it all.
