Chapter 9 - Xander

Rejected. I have never been rejected in any way shape and form, yet here I am listening to the woman of my dreams telling me she didn’t want me right now. I know she just needed time, but I wanted nothing but her. I didn’t want anything in this world more than I wanted her. I watch as she backs away from me. Her hand leaves my chest and I can’t help but notice how cold my chest is now that her hand isn’t there. She shifts to her wolf in front of me. She definitely was the one from my dreams. The exact opposite of mine. Right down to the black diamond across her chest. She was even more beautiful in person. Chief was going crazy inside of my head. I had a really hard time reeling him in. I know he was upset with what she just said too and I was ready to do everything I could to prove she was wrong. She needed me, and I needed her. I shift into Chief; straining to keep him from going after her too quickly after she leaves. We start trotting back to our tent. I get back to the clearing in time to see her running inside and towards the stairs. The King and Queen exchanged a few words with Kyle before he joined me towards the tents. “I didn’t explain much. I figured they would like to hear it from her first. All they said was they hope everything is alright in the end.” He pauses briefly to let me in the tent first. “Was she the one from your dreams?” He asks after following me inside. I shift back and grab some clothes from my dresser and slip them on before I answer. “Yeah it was; but there’s more. Turns out she is also my mate.” Kyle cheers and pats my shoulder. I look down and smile softly. “But understandably, she made it clear she doesn’t want anything right now.” He quiets down quickly after that. “But she didn't reject you, right?” “No. She said she wouldn’t. She just needs time.” I sigh and plop down on my bed. Honestly, my ego kind of hurts a little. I’m being put on the sideline for the first time in my life and I didn’t really like it. I really want to just hold her tight and run my fingers through her long dark brown hair. Was that really too much to ask? Apparently it was. I’ve waited for a mate, for forever. Now that I've found her, she doesn’t even want me. “You’ll get it worked out I’m sure.” “Yeah I hope so. Chief is driving me crazy right now.” I laugh. Kyle leaves after that and I try, but I just can’t fall asleep. Soon it’ll be light out anyways so I just get up and get ready for training. I put on a pair of basketball shorts and head out. I lead a group of volunteer fighters first. There are a total of seven thousand men and women that have come from packs across the country. I’ve split them up into several large groups, and Kyle and I take turns leading them. In my last group, we were running laps around the castle when I saw her. There she was, sitting with her mother in the dining area. I could tell she had just woken up. She still had little bags under her eyes and her hair wasn’t brushed. It was the cutest thing I have ever seen. She flicked her eyes towards mine and I almost stopped in my tracks to make it last longer. Her eyes seemed to change color the longer I stared. I ran past the windows, never breaking eye contact until I could no longer see her. I shake my head out of the trance she seems to put me in. I need to know more about her. I don’t think that her parents will give me anything… Maybe her past mate's family. Surely she was with them enough that they could give me something. I’m just craving to know more about her and frankly I would take anything at this point. On the other hand, asking her past mate’s family would be completely awkward, so there goes that idea. After running, the group goes to shower. My next group will be Isabelle’s pack. The Royal Pack. All alpha’s are required to train with the Royal Pack, but to be honest, it has been a long time since I’ve trained with them. So I’m a little nervous. Once I step in the gym, I get hit instantly with the smell of strawberries and champagne. “Go and get her. We need her.” Chief growls in my head. “No, we need her to like us,” I replied back. “Plus, I don’t think rushing her to go and ‘get her’ would be the right course of action.” With that he is silent. Well at least he didn't completely disagree with me on that. I just caught a glimpse of her heading into her office. I hear some of the men chuckle as I get closer. “What’s so funny?” I ask. I raised an eyebrow at one of the guys who was laughing. “Oh we were just making bets on who would win in a sparring match. You or the princess.” After he says that I hear people choosing sides. Most people were voting for the princess. I was only slightly annoyed, and figured they were just saying it because they were loyal to Isabella. “What’s your name?” I ask him curiously. “Dennis” he announces confidently. One of the people chosen to go through the commander trials. I also heard that she had chosen Ryker, her former mate. Of course at the time she didn’t realise that he was her mate, but stil, I couldn’t help but be a little annoyed at making that connection. “And who is it exactly that you think is going to win?” I ask with a hint of curiosity. “Princess Isabella.” He says automatically. “No one in this entire training room has ever beaten her. And I don’t think that you would either. I think she would kick your ass.” There are a few chuckles and I can’t help but chuckle with them. The royal pack is almost like the marines of the human world. Cocky. “Well why don’t we just find out then shall we…” I start heading over to her office door. Once I start heading over I hear cheers from the guys. I reach her door and after a moment of hesitation I knock. Once I hear her say come in, I open the door and lean in the doorway. “So I hear you can kick my ass,” I say with a slight smile. Her smell is almost intoxicating. I see her look up into my eyes. I could stay like that forever, staring at her face. Her hazel eyes; trying to figure out what color they will be. Her lips slightly parted as she looked at me. I think I would enjoy myself very much if I just rubbed my thumb across the bottom of her lip. As she spoke it was as if she was pulling me further into a trance. “Yeah and what would give you that impression?” She says with a slight blush as she notices she was staring a little. I watch as she looks away and starts to act busy with paperwork she has on her desk. “Well your men for one; two it wouldn’t really surprise me, although no one has ever beaten me. And three, well all the guys out there are expecting a match and have already made bets.” I say with a slight chuckle. She stops what she is doing. Once I hear her huff and stand up. She pushes by me and goes to stand in front of the crowd. “Why are there bets about me going around?” I can feel her aura pulsing through the crowd. She wasn’t happy and the guys were quickly baring their throats in submission. I didn’t though. I could feel her power for sure, but I didn’t feel the urge to submit. Must be the bond. Her aura starts to fade and I watch as she takes a deep breath and looks me in the eyes. “Well if we are going to do this, then someone better be getting the mats out.” I’ve never seen people move as quickly as they just did. Before I knew it, Isabella and I were facing each other. Her hair was pulled back and she was in a stance. I don’t know what exactly I was expecting to come from her…. But it definitely wasn’t what I got. “Don’t take it easy on me.” She said quietly and just like that we began.
