To say that I was surprised was an understatement. This little thing, someone smaller than most, was about to kick my a## if I didn’t start taking this seriously. Within half a minute this little wolf had me almost pinned down twice. Using her size to her advantage, she instantly took the bottom position and swept my feet from underneath me. I was almost too stunned to pull out of the pin. After the second ‘almost pin’, I shifted gears. Chief wasn’t helping with his hooting and hollering inside my head. All he could think about is trying to get me to mate with her, and this late in the mating game…. I wouldn’t be surprised if he told me to do it in front of everyone here.
Every time that she made contact with me, I couldn’t help but notice the tingling that I got. It was almost like you didn’t realize you needed it to survive until it was gone. This was going to be harder than I thought. After trying to get a feel for each other’s fighting style, we both were extremely covered in sweat. I stood across the mat from here. I wasn’t going to let her win this.
“Everyone else is making a bet from this, I think that it is only fair that I do as well,” I called out to her.
“Oh yeah and what is it you want to make a bet on?” She growled while trying to catch her breath. I tried to pretend not to see the beads of sweat dripping into her cleavage. This girl was going to be the death of me.
“If I win, I want to take you out on a date. Tonight. You cook. I get to pick the movie.” I take over quickly and take her to the ground. I pin her hands on the sides of her head and look her straight in the eyes. I could get lost in those things. It’s like the longer I stare the more convinced I was that her eyes couldn’t choose what color they wanted to be. All around us the cheering got quiet as they stopped to listen in.
“And if you lose?” Her voice was so soft. If I hadn’t been so close to her I wouldn’t have been able to hear her; even with my super hearing. My body was tingling all over. I had her pinned, and I could see her breath become shallow. I realized it was just as hard for her as it was for me to resist our thoughts. And I could tell she was confused and saddened by these thoughts. I don’t know how I knew, but I could tell that was exactly what she was feeling.
“If I lose, which I most definitely won't, I cook and you get to choose the movie.” She laughed and it took everything in my soul to stop Chief from taking her right then and there. That sweet little sound shook me to my core.
“Alright I guess you have a deal but I hope you're a good cook”, she says as a matter of fact. All of the sudden, the one who was reffing the match blows his whistle and declares me the winner. I hear cheers but not as much as I hear ‘boos’ or ‘he cheated’. There were IOU’s exchanged as I helped Isabella to her feet; a look of shock and anger on her face. I kept her distracted enough to pin her, I needed this win either way, I was going to get some time with her. Whether it was from this bet or something else. It was going to happen.
“That’s not fair. We were talking. I didn't think you were planning on making it a pin.” She growled. She was annoyed but I saw a flash of amusement cross her eyes.
“Well sometimes you have to outsmart your enemies. You don’t have to take them down aggressively. I’ll be up at 8 tonight. See you then.” I replied back.
She stormed off and I couldn’t help but watch that fine a## jiggle as she walked . I laugh to myself and start training with the other wolves. One of her commanders in training caught up to me while we were doing laps. I don’t know what it was, but for some reason this guy put off a weird feeling. I just shoved it aside and we talked for a little bit. Nothing major, just asking about how Isabella and I had made it pretty clear that we were mates, and that if I was trying to keep it a secret. It definitely wasn’t going to be one now.
When we hit the woods, that’s when things turned strange. Right there in the middle of the path was a single rouge. We all came to a stop. He smelled like a rogue. He looked like one as well, but how he got into our land without a single warning bell… I wasn’t sure. I pounced on him, and the strangest thing was; he didn’t even try to fight. I had sifted half way through my pounce, so I had a giant claw resting on his chest so he didn’t move. I heard howls behind me from the others, signaling that there were intruders.
“I come in peace. The king and queen know me. Please, I’m not who you think I am” he says quickly. I was confused at why this man wasn’t scared about me about to rip his throat out. The first person I saw running towards us was Isabella and I couldn’t help but feel my heart skip a little. Chief, being the soft puppy dog he is, raised his head and almost forgot all about the rogue until I reminded him who we had underneath our foot.
Still, he couldn’t keep her eyes away from her. Not that I blame him of course. The most confusing thing that happened would have to be that she shoved me off of him. Chief just c****d his head as she helped him up to his feet. Now giving this stranger a big hug was out of line though. Chief let out a large growl, then cowarded away from the look that Isabella gave us. Big baby I told him.
She looked towards me and gave a small smile. She reached up and pet Chief (which he won’t shut up about now), and told me “He’s a friend. You don’t need to worry about it too much. Go ahead and send these guys home early and go get dressed. I will meet you in the meeting rooms, in thirty minutes. Chief bowed his head in understanding then turned toward the pack. We looked back to her once more and she nodded her head letting us know it would be alright, and we went back towards the gym.
Once I was in the locker rooms; I shifted back into a human, got showered, dressed, and ran straight to the second floor. What I saw when I went in, confused me to the point of no return. They were all playing a game of darts, and instead of a board it was a picture of some guy I’ve never seen before.
“Ah, glad you could make it Alpha Xander,” said the rogue.
“I’m sorry, you seem to have me at an advantage… you are?” I reply back cautiously. He still looked like a rogue, and smelled like one. In fact, his clothes were covered in holes, dirt, and badly attached patches. But for some reason; Isabella, Queen Brook, and King Roland, were all sitting together like everything was fine.
“Oh how rude of me” he says sensing my confusion, “I am still in disguise”. With a snap of his fingers, his clothes quickly turned into a clean pressed suit, a pair of Oxfords, and slicked back hair. The smell of rogue disappeared leaving a faint smell of lavender. The smell of magic.
“I am Warlock Franklin Thatcher, but my friends call me Frankie” he says with a small smile and an amused look in his eye. “I’ve come to update the Queen and King about a few things and teach Isabella a thing or two about her powers, do you need lessons as well?” Everyone else whipped their heads towards me the second he said it and the color drained from my face.
He knew. I’ve used my powers once in the 92 years I’ve been alive but somehow this warlock knew I had them. And now I had some explaining to do.
