~Kemarion~ Two weeks! That entire situation took two weeks, and I am beyond irritated. There were so many times I wanted to walk out of that pack and just head home. If I didn’t have the position that I do, I would have done that and more. My mind kept drifting to Samiah. I kept wondering how she was settling in with being out of the cells. I kept imagining her sitting at home, trying to get her life back on track. I wasn’t worried about her being under the hood of a car. I specifically told Ross that she wouldn’t be about that life anymore, and he wouldn’t be one to defy me. I shift in my seat again, letting out a big sigh. “Why are you so anxious, brother?” I turn to look at Dean. He’s been watching me a lot lately. “I’m just anxious to get back home.” I hope I sound convincing, but I’m not sure. I haven’t told anyone about Samiah being my fated mate. I had no intentions of claiming her, and then I didn’t want to say anything until I had her. I’m sure people will have things to say. She’s an Omega. She works as a mechanic. She isn’t what anyone would deem ‘Beta material,’ but for some odd reason, she was given to me. It isn’t so much that I want her now or anything. My thoughts on her status remain unchanged. I planned a future with Destini, and now that’s no longer an option. I could find someone else, and I might still, but how long would that take? Destini was a fluke at best, and I’m not sure it will be easy for me to find another high-ranked she-wolf. Keeping Samiah gives me what I need in the immediate. On top of that, she is my fated mate. As much as I hate to admit it, she will strengthen my position. We are always stronger with our fated mates next to us. Maybe I can secure her and find someone else. Maybe I can reduce her to my mistress and find someone with more status to have by my side. I’d have to have her close first, to make her believe that we are something more. I can even have a kid or two with her to keep her compliant. I would have to have children with my chosen mate because they would be stronger. “BRO!” I jolt in my seat and focus my attention on Dean. “Where the hell were you just now?” I shrug and shake my head. “My bad, man. I think I’m just tired and am ready to be home.” He looks like he wants to question me, but he doesn’t. He nods and turns his head to look out the window. Once I have things settled, I will tell him something. I’m sure if I tell him the truth, he will understand. I sit back and watch the road flash by on the way home. ~Samiah~ Mom has been gone for a week now. My heart broke when she took her last breath, but I kept it together. I had to put her to rest properly and then get things in order. This pack has been my home all of my life, but the memories are too much for me. I need to start over, find somewhere I can make new memories. I’ve been cleaning up our place, getting rid of things that I don’t plan to take with me. I’ve sold some things, and I’ve given others away. I’m only packing the things that I can bear to part with: pictures and other keepsakes. I’m not taking any of the furniture; I want to start fresh. Alpha Dean has given me some money for my journey. I tried to decline, telling him the car and permission were enough, but he insisted. I’m actually grateful because it will help me set up somewhere new with minimal issues. I’ve been packing up the car with the items that I will be keeping. There isn’t much, but we didn’t have much in the first place. I plan to leave soon, and when I do, I won’t be returning. There’s something still bothering me. I know that the future Beta is my mate, and I heard that he was the one who provided the information that locked my mom and me up. When he came to tell me that we were released, he didn’t acknowledge the mate bond. He didn’t claim me or even look like he knew who I was to him. My mind goes back to what Ross said when I got out. The comment he made about work and the future Beta has never sat right with me. I truly feel like I’m missing something important in that entire situation. Something is sitting right at the edge of my consciousness that I can grab hold of. I sigh and shake my head, taking my last box to the car. I close the trunk, making sure everything is secure. I had to do some work on the car to make sure it will last on this trip. Ross was nice enough to help me get it ready. He hated to hear that I plan to leave the pack, but he said he understood. He just wants me to be happy. He made me promise to contact him when I land somewhere so he knows that I’m okay. I look around our cottage, taking everything in. This is my last day here, and I’m ready for a change. I want to see Alpha Dean one more time before I go. I turn and start moving toward the packhouse. I plan to leave early tomorrow morning. I have no destination in mind, but I’m ready for the adventure. Rae starts to get frantic in my mind as I get closer to the packhouse. I take a deep breath in, trying to calm her and myself. Hints of that scent from the cells reach me, and I almost stop moving. I haven’t come across that scent since we were released from the cells. I really haven’t even tried to seek it out, and now it’s reaching me, calling out. I think my fated mate is around.
