~Samiah~
My hand is on the car door handle, and I’m ready to leave this pack. His voice stops me cold; a wave of fear runs through me. “Baby girl? What are you doing?” I slowly turn around until I’m facing Ross. He’s looking between me and the car with concern.
“Ross. I… I didn’t think you’d be in the shop this late.” Yeah, I waited until it was dark and the shop was closed for the day. I also waited longer to make sure that Ross wasn’t working off hours. I wanted to grab my car and get out of here.
When it comes down to it, Ross is the only person I will miss… the only person I hate to say goodbye to. He’s almost like another father to me. He was there after my father passed, making sure to give me advice and support me as I strived to better myself. He didn’t have to give me a shot. I’m a female Omega; there was nothing that said I should spend my time in a mechanic’s shop. Ross ignored all of that and decided to let me be me, let me shine in whatever light worked for me. My mom is already gone, and that makes it easier to leave. Leaving Ross is hard because he means so much to me. I didn’t want to have to say goodbye, but I guess I have no choice.
“Obviously. What’s going on? Talk to me.” I sigh and drop my hand. I can’t tell him everything. If I do, he would be at Kemarion’s mercy once he realizes that I’m gone. I can’t put Ross in that situation, no matter how much I want to confide in him. I can’t give him information that he won’t be able to deny knowing. It puts him in too much danger.
I look around, trying to figure out what I can say that would put his mind at ease and keep him safe. I open my mouth a few times to speak, but nothing comes out. Ross walks up to me and gently takes my hand. He pushes something into it and closes my fingers around it. I look down at my hand before looking at his face. “It isn’t much, but I think you will need it. Call it pay from when you were on your paid leave.” I open my mouth to respond, but he quickly shakes his head. “Don’t, baby girl. Just be safe.” He kisses me on my forehead, causing tears to spring to my eyes. I close them, trying to keep my face dry. When I open them again, Ross is gone.
My heart breaks at his absence, but I understand it. He couldn’t stay here any more than I can. We are both losing something with me leaving, but I have to go. He may not have asked, but I know that he realizes that I’m leaving and don’t plan to come back. I wish things could be different, but I know that they can’t be.
I let out a shaky sigh and get into the car. I check everything and the mirrors to make sure no one else is on their way to surprise me. I slowly drive down the path that will take me off packlands. I don’t want to draw too much attention to myself. Thankfully, no one is around this path, especially at night.
The moment I drive far enough away from the pack’s border, I pull over and stop the car. I open the door and step out. I close my eyes, knowing that this is going to take a toll. Are you ready, Rae?
We have to do this. We promised Mom that we would live a good life.
He’s your fated mate too. This is going to be painful. Rae’s quiet for a bit before she speaks again.
I don’t really feel the pull. He’s our mate, but it’s almost like there’s nothing there. I’m with you, human. Do it. Take a bit more time, gathering my courage to end all of this.
“ I, Samiah Hicks, member of the Brutalmaw Pack, reject you, Kemarion Baker, future Beta, as my mate for now and forever. I sever all ties with the Brutalmaw Pack.” I wait for a pain that never comes. That’s odd, but I will take it. I get back into the car and start it up. I don’t know where I’m going, but I can’t wait to get there and live my life. I made Mom a promise, and I will do anything it takes to fulfill it. She may not be here anymore, but that doesn’t negate what I told her. I will go somewhere and live a good life. I will make sure I’m happy.

I step out of the closet and take a step back. I cleaned out an entire side of the closet. I made sure to make room for her things, though I’m sure that she doesn't have much. Maybe I will buy her a few items. She’d probably like that. I’m sure she’s never experienced the level of luxury that I could give her. I’d probably end up looking like her hero.
I thought about putting her in a guest room on our floor. I don’t really want everyone to know about our tie to each other. At the same time, I will have to perform for a while. I can’t completely ice her out, or else it will be harder to keep her by my side. Maybe I can slowly edge her out as I start to look for someone better fit to stand beside me.
I stand in my room, looking everything over to make sure it’s ready for a new inhabitant. I’m tempted to go to her place now and bring her here, but I restrain myself. It’s only fair that I give her a chance to be with her mom. They should be able to say goodbye or do whatever it is that they plan to do. The best thing to do is go to bed and be ready to start my new life tomorrow.
