Chapter 6: Her
I gently placed the tulip glass on top of the center table before pouring champagne in it.
After pouring the exact and right amount of champagne that I want, I picked it up with my left hand as I simply took a sip.
I was right. It was really something special. It wouldn't be made out of scented paper if it was not that special. I'm so stupid. How the hell did I forgot the exact date?
Damn it.
Today marks the 4th wedding anniversary of Kaden and Sebastian. It's been 4 years now. 4 years since the day that every little thing in my life started changing. But even though it was cutting my heart into pieces, I watched them got married in front of God and in front of everybody. And I know, that God knows very well that it took everything in me watching them say their vows and pressing their lips together. But I don't care about that anymore. It's been 4 years. I need to toughen myself more. I can't be like this forever. That would be so much weakness and so much cowardness.
Clearly, Kaden and Sebastian are going to celebrate because it's their 4th wedding anniversary. I never thought that Kaden really had the guts to send me an invitation. Actually, everyone staying in the hotel is welcome. But those who are given an invitation is highly expected or a specialized guest. And I'm one of those people because I received an invitation last night. The one given by Elisa.
I really can't believe it. She could just text me or summon Elisa to tell me about the celebration. She literally gave me an invitation to slap me with the truth that she's not coming back to me anymore and she's over me and every memory we made.
Well, f**k it. f**k what happened 4 years ago. Fine. If it's that easy for her to move on, then, it should be that easy for me too. There's no any kind of hope within me anymore. It's all gone. Vanished, exiled, and thrown away. That small amount of hope finally left me. All I need to do now is to fully accept that everything about my life is f****d up. And that I'll never find someone who'll love me the way I wish to be loved.
It'll be easy since I already know that happy endings doesn't really exist.
Tonight, I will not hide and stay inside my room. I will celebrate with them. I'll celebrate my pain that I tried so hard to endure before. And of course, the retirement of that hope that's not within me anymore. Tonight, it's going to be different. I don't want to be left anymore. The only slow learner in a class full of brainiacs will strive to catch up until he's ahead of every single one of them. Schyler is not going to stay like this forever. He's going to move tonight. Further, and more further.
Schyler will make sure that he will be fully healed after this day.
Mark his words.
Instead of thinking about random things, I chose finish my champagne as I returned the tulip glass on top of the center table. I looked at my wrist watch to check the time.
7:30 PM. Hmm, only 30 minutes late.
Should I wait for another 10 minutes? I'm going to attend that celebration but I'm going to show up late. I want them to expect my presence more. I want to crush their expectations and I want them to think that maybe I'm not going to show up.
For short, I want an unexpected entrance.
I made sure that I have my key card with me as I hid it inside my pocket. I gave myself a last chance to stare at my own reflection on the mirror. I am wearing a dark blue velvet suit paired with pants that has the same color like the suit. This suit is under my brand's name and I am lowkey promoting it tonight. Well, nothing's wrong with that, right? Right.
I fixed my necktie because it was a little messed up. I also made sure that my hair looks very dashing just like how I wanted to be tonight. I looked like I was about to attend a business meeting. Oh, well. Atleast I look presentable. I chose to wear a suit because I know that all of the specialized guests are businessmen or businesswomen.
So if ever I'd get a deal tonight, atleast I still look like a decent CEO.
Geez. Did I just forgot that it's a celebration I'm going to attend?
After I got contented with my look, I went out of my suite with the invitation on my hand. I made sure that I locked the door before heading to the hotel's resort. The celebration is probably happening near the pool or either in the pool itself. I heard earlier that the buffet has been taken care of by the one and only master of any cuisine, Clara Lucille Imorgen. It's one of the reasons why I'm going to show up and attend this nonsense celebration. Call me tricky, but I really love foods from Clara's. And I will try everything to have them for free because I love them so much and nothing can stop me from loving them every single damn day.
I walked through the hallway until I reached the elevator. Unlike yesterday, I am not nervous anymore with the thought that I might encounter Kaden and Sebastian there. Honestly, I don't really care about Kaden's husband. I don't know him that well. I only know his reputation, not his attitude behind every success he achieved.
When the elevator opened, I felt my phone vibrating from my pocket. I immediately took it out and saw that someone is calling.
Elisa Heqet.
"Yes, hello?"
The moment I answered her call, I automatically heard the loud music from the background. It was too loud that I can barely hear her voice.
"Sir, where are you? We're waiting for you." Elisa almost shouted. The loud music in the background made her shout every word.
"I'm almost there, Elisa. Can you wait a little longer?" I waited for her response and it took her a little while. "Of course, sir. We'll keep on waiting. You can crash the party anytime you want." What Elisa said made me smile. Then, so be it. I will crash the party anytime I want. She said they're going to wait. Then go ahead, people. Wait for me.
I was walking and walking until I found myself getting nearer to the pool. The celebration was indeed held in the pool. From where I'm standing, I can hear the same loud music I heard in the background when Elisa called.
I took a deep breath before making another step forward. I was about to continue walking but my eyes saw someone that could easily take my breath away.
That angel in disguise.
She's wearing a navy tiered ruffle lace up romper. The color of the romper made her skintone stands out and brighter than ever. Her hair was styled in a messy bun but she looked more attractive instead. She's only wearing a light make up. Rosy cheeks with her lips painted with rose pink lipstick. Her neck has a gold choker worn by it. And both of her ears are occupied by gold hoop earrings. Her whole outfit was paired with a pair of navy ankle strap heels.
Everything was perfect.
No, wrong. She is perfect.
Damn it.
Her glowing and breathtaking look tonight had made follow her. She was holding a tulip glass with champagne on it. We reached the pool but I still continued following Clara.
The loud music is now deafening my ears but I never let Clara escape my eyes. There were people who almost blocked my way but I always made my way out as I continue following that breathtaking angel. I can't take it anymore.
Shit. Enough is enough. I'm going to talk to her now. How can I not talk to her? Look at her. She's the most beautiful lady that took my attention from anything else.
"Baby, don't you know you're heavenly gorgeous to me?"
Yeah, right. Let's pretend that I told her that.
Whatever, Schyler.
I was busy following every step that Clara is making, but then suddenly, Kaden appeared in front of me and offered me a drink.
I was taken aback and immediately lost Clara from my sights when I looked at Kaden even just once.
What the hell.
Seriously, Kaden? Seriously?
I was a little bit pissed because I lost that angel in disguise. But instead of letting that take over me, I accepted the drink that Kaden offered as I plastered a fake smile.
"I thought you weren't going to show up." She shouted.
I widened my fake smile and told her that I was a little bit busy earlier—even though I was not—that's why I'm late.
"I'm sorry for showing up late. But I'm really invited, right? I can show up anytime I want." Kaden gave me her sweetest smile as she wrapped her right arm to mine. Great. "Of course. But now, would you like to join us in our the table?" I just let out a heavy sigh before giving her a nod. She already had her arm wrapped around mine. How can I reject her?
Oh, God.
Instead of letting myself feel downcast because I lost Clara, I chose to drink my champagne as I walked with Kaden to their table with her arm still wrapped around mine.
Kaden is being coy all of a sudden.
What is she doing?
When we finally reached the table that Kaden was talking about, I immediately unwrapped her arm away from mine. I saw Sebastian looking at my arm earlier with a wry emotion shown by his face. That's why I chose to unwrap Kaden's arm away from mine on my own. Is Kaden even thinking about her husband when she wrapped her arm around mine? What if he's a huge fan of jealousy? Damn. Whatever.
"Hon! Schyler is finally here."
Kaden went to her husband with her arms wide open. Her husband immediately accepted her hug as he hugged her tighter.
We all sat down after all the drama.
But before I even said a word, I looked back and tried to roam my eyes for the last time with the hope that I might spot that angel.
But, no. She was nowhere to be found anymore.
When my attention came back to the couple sitting in front of me, Sebastian took the will to do the talking. Actually, I'm not the only guests that joined them in their table. Kaden's and Sebastian's parents are also with us. Kaden's mom smiled at me and I just nodded and gave her a smile too. Same to Kaden's dad.
"Thank you for coming, Schyler. I thought you wouldn't show up."
I secretly smirked before replacing it with another fake smile. "Of course. I'm honored to celebrate with you. Happy 4th wedding anniversary, Mr. and Mrs. Tanner." I raised my tulip glass and did a toast for them. Everyone on the table joined and had genuine smiles on their lips while mine is fake. I'm not here to celebrate with you, dumbass. I'm here for the food. Hope you know that.
Everyone was having a great time. Partying or celebrating, call it what you want but everyone is indeed enjoying the current atmosphere. The spacious pool was occupied by some of the chosen guests and some are the people who are invited because they're currently staying in Bellagio. Every businessmen and businesswomen can be identified because they are wearing casual attires just like mine. Even Sebastian. He's wearing a black suit while his wife chose to wear a mauve maxi dress.
Fine. They look good together.
After spending a lot of minutes sitting with them, I became bored as I badly wanted to ditch the celebration.
But a more exciting idea came into my mind when a thought of Clara suddenly budged my head.
I cleared my throat and took their attentions.
It was Kaden who turned to me first. Her husband followed with both of his eyebrows raised.
"Ahm, have you seen Clara?"
Kaden's forehead was ruined, "Clara? Clara Lucille Imorgen?"
I nodded, "Yes. Her."
The loud music suddenly changed. From a lively party music theme, to "Save Your Tears" by The Weeknd and Ariana Grande.
"I'm not sure. All I know is she chose the table where it's quite away from people. Between those palm trees at the end of the pool." It was Sebastian.
I smiled, "Thanks, dude."
I immediately stood up and started walking to the end of the pool. I took a new tulip glass with champagne in it when a waiter came across me.
Everyone's still partying.
But me? I'm busy finding that angel I barely know.
It only took me a while before reaching the table between the palm trees. I roamed my eyes around but there was no Clara in front of me.
That wasn't enough to make me give up. I gave myself tons of chances to spot that incredible lady.
After trying and trying, I finally found her.
There she is. Standing before me. Little bit far from the exact place that Sebastian said.
For the second time around, I'm facing her back again because she's facing my front pace. Instead of clearing my throat to take her attention, I started walking closer to her. When I was close enough to her, I started blubbering about nonsense things.
"H-hey."
Fuck. Wait. Stuttering is not a part of the plan. Fix it, Schyler!
I cleared my throat, "Ms. Imorgen?"
I bit my lower lip when my heart immediately jumped higher than I expected when she started burning to me.
"Hi. I'm Shy—I mean, Schyler Dael. I want to tell you that..."
I immediately stopped talking when I saw her face.
My lips parted,
She's crying.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Dael." She sobbed as she wiped the tears away from her eyes. "I'm not really in the mood to talk to anyone right now." Tears kept on coming out from her eyes as they stream down to her rosy cheeks. She would wipe them away from time to time.
"What happened? Who did this to you? Are you hurt?" Worry consumed my whole being and I don't know why. I'm not even her friend or her boyfriend, but I reacted more than how I'm supposed to react.
I gulped, "Are you hurt, Clara?"
Instead of answering my question, she just shook her head and excused herself.
My lips pursed and my jaw tightened as I watched her walked away.
I sighed. What type of monster would make this angelic and incredible lady to cry?
