XANDER The eerie atmosphere in the dungeon peaked the moment Jack finished speaking. Even the silence that followed felt heavy, pressing down on us like an unseen weight. Then— Jack suddenly shuddered. “Ugh. That was so scary.” Just like that, the oppressive tension shattered. We watched as she rubbed her arms and hurriedly scooted forward, planting herself between Jaxon and me as though seeking protection. I exchanged a look with Jaxon, and before either of us could stop ourselves, we chuckled in unison. “Getting scared by your own story?” I teased. “That’s new.” “As if you two were any better,” she shot back, rolling her eyes. Then she pointed straight at Jaxon. “Don’t think I didn’t notice you edging closer to Xander earlier.” “A werewolf scared by a witch story,” she snorted.
