Chapter 2

LOGAN I finally found her. I found my mate. It has taken me eight years to find her, which is a long time for a werewolf to be without a mate. She is human, but I don't care; I think she is perfect. I'm a werewolf, the alpha of the Black Claw pack. Once we were settled into the new territory when we moved about three years ago, some of the pack members came up with the idea of turning the town below the south side of the territory into a tourist hot spot. The town is close to a lake and has fantastic scenery. We are only a small pack of 60 and rogues wandering around every rare. We stay on the pack land near the pack house; it is big enough for all of us, so we roam around in their forms. I went to the grocery store to pick up something when I noticed Riley doing the display in the window at the bookstore. I stopped short and watched her. She has long black hair that flows over one shoulder as she places the books on the table. She is wearing a pair of short shorts with a tank top. I can see her long legs that go on forever. I'm getting hard just by looking at her. Suddenly, she looks up and connects her eyes with mine. I can't move. She watches me for a few seconds but goes back into the shop. Fuck, I need to see her. "We need mate," says Max, my wolf, with a whine. "She looks SO good," he says in a husky voice. He is getting horny too. I shook my thoughts away and headed straight to the bookstore. My grandmother owns the bookstore. I usually visit her every day. When I walked in a week ago, I was hit with the most intoxicating lavender scent. When my eyes connected with Riley's and my wolf howled in my head, shouting mate, I knew she was ours. I open the door to the shop and walk in; the bell rings. I can sense Riley is around the corner. I stop and look at her as she puts the final books on the top shelf. She is on her tiptoes, stretching. f**k. But suddenly, she stumbles when putting the last book on the shelf and falls backwards. With quick speed, I caught her in my arms. The sparks flying between us are intense, the mate bond working for me. She looks at me with her blue eyes, shocked by the contact. She wriggles out of my arms and straightens herself out. "Um.....Thanks," she says, putting a strand of her hair behind her ear while adjusting. "You're welcome. Do you need any help putting any more on the top shelf?" I asked her, actually regretting it as I would love to see her stretch like that again. Damn, she is so gorgeous. She looks at me and shakes her head. "No, thanks anyway. I have put them all out; some are back there, ready for shelving after Margret lets me know where she wants them," she says. I nod. She looks at me; well, she checks me out. She looks up at my body; she blushes when she catches me looking at her. She quickly recovers, but I can't help the smirk that forms on my lips. "Well, Margret will be here soon. Would you like to have a coffee, or do you have to be somewhere?" She says, trying to compose herself more. "I have to go to the shop, but I can do that later. I would love a coffee," I said to her, smiling. She smiles and walks away to the little kitchen in the back. I can hear her pottering around; I looked towards the sitting area. I make myself comfortable. A few minutes later, Riley comes out with two mugs and places them on the coffee table in front of us. She smiles. "So, how are you finding Forest Valley?" I asked, trying to make small talk. I want to be forward with her, but due to her being human, and she doesn't know about our kind, I have to do it the old-fashioned way and date her, whereas a werewolf who mates with another werewolf will go and mate with their mates straight away. I have to plan this right; I don't want to scare her off. "I love it here; I love going to the lake most nights. It is very peaceful here, and I love working in this bookstore. It reminds me of my childhood home," she says, but I can see grief in her eyes. I want to know her story. She looks at me as she recovers from whatever she is thinking about. "So what about you? Do you like living here?" I smile. "Yeah, I do. I like the peace, but it has so many fun places to see, too," I said. I looked at her. "You know, I could show you some places if you want. We can make it a date." I said, feeling hopeful. She looks at me, shocked. "A date? I...uh...I would love that," she says, smiling with a hint of a blush. I can feel my wolf howling in excitement that we will get to spend some time with her. "Well, I will take you somewhere tonight if you like; I will pick you up at 7," I said. She nods. "Yes, that would be great," she says. The bell on the door rings out; we both look to see my grandmother walking in with her friend Betty. Both of them are gossiping, as usual. "I best get back to work," she says and gets up off the couch but stops and turns around to me. "I will see you later." She turns and walks away, heading back into the back room. I watched her leave. "You got it bad, son," says my grandmother, who takes the seat that Riley left. "We are going on our first date tonight," I said, smiling. My grandmother smiles, "About time; your wolf is driving everyone crazy," she says with a slight laugh. "I had best get going; finish what I need to do. I don't want to be late. I don't want my Luna to be waiting for me," I say as I leave. I bent down and kissed my grandmother on the cheek and did the same to Betty. I walked out of the bookstore, happy. I want this to work; I have to make it work with her and make her stay. She is my mate and Luna.
