Chapter 1: The Contract

273 Words
Tobi Adebayo was done. Done with her cheating ex. Done with her empty bank account. Done with Lagos rent that ate her salary every month. She ran out of the restaurant, tears blurring her vision. Right into a wall of muscle and expensive cologne. “Watch where you’re—” The voice was cold. Dangerous. Tobi looked up and forgot how to breathe. Damian Okoye. Billionaire CEO. Forbes "30 Under 30". The man whose face was on every business magazine in Nigeria. His dark eyes scanned her, unimpressed. “Are you alright?” “I’m fine,” she lied, stepping back. “Sorry for—” “Wait.” He caught her wrist. His touch was firm, warm. “I heard what you said on the phone.” His gaze didn’t waver. “About needing money.” Tobi’s face burned. “You were eavesdropping?” “I was waiting for my table.” He pulled out a black card. “Marry me for 6 months. ₦50 million. No questions asked.” The world tilted. “Are you insane?” Tobi laughed, but it came out shaky. “Desperate,” he corrected. His eyes locked on hers. “And I don’t repeat offers twice, Miss Adebayo.” Her heart stopped. How did he know her name? Damian smiled. It wasn’t kind. “Decide by midnight. My driver will be waiting.” He dropped the card in her palm and walked away, leaving Tobi shaking with rage... and something else she refused to name. But when she looked down at the card, her rent notice was due tomorrow. And midnight was in 3 hours.
