A Day like this

The morning sun streamed softly through the wide windows of the guest room, casting warm patterns across the floor. Angela sat on the edge of the bed, her thoughts swirling from last night’s dinner. The laughter, the sideways glances from Kevin’s family, and Ava’s gentle revelations about Kevin lingered in her mind. She wasn’t sure what to expect next, but the air felt different now—less formal, more personal. Kevin knocked lightly before entering, a coffee cup in each hand. “Thought you might like this,” he said, handing her one. He sat on the chair nearby, stealing a glance at her with a slight smile. Angela took a sip, the bitterness grounding her. “Thanks. Last night was… different.” Kevin nodded. “It’s not easy for me either. My family has their own way of doing things.” She looked up. “Your mom and Ava—they really like me,don't they?.” He chuckled softly, shaking his head. “Yes they do,that was actually surprising. I wasn’t sure how they’d react.” There was a pause before Angela ventured, “I want to understand more about you, Kevin. Not just the CEO or the boss, but the person behind it.” Kevin exhaled“okay then” Angela set her coffee down, feeling the quiet settle between them. “So, how did you really become CEO? Was it all just handed to you?” she asked, curious. Kevin’s expression tightened for a moment, then he exhaled slowly. “Not exactly. I inherited the role from my dad, but it wasn’t easy stepping into his shoes. Especially with everything… complicated in our family.” Angela nodded gently, sensing the weight behind his words. “You don’t have to say more if it’s too much.” He shook his head. “No, I want you to know. My dad… he was a different man behind closed doors. People saw him as perfect, but that wasn’t the case. I didn’t grow up feeling safe with him.” Angela’s heart clenched. “That must have been hard.” “It was. And even now, I’m not sure I’m ready to forgive him fully,” Kevin admitted, his voice low. “But my mom, she’s strong. She’s moved on in her own way.” The room felt warmer, as if sharing these truths was breaking down walls. Angela realized this trip was more than just a getaway—it was a step toward understanding each other beyond the office and titles “Enough about me now”,Kevin glanced at his watch.“Want to explore the city a bit? I can show you some of my favorite spots.” Angela smiled, a genuine one this time. “thought this was supposed to be a business trip,Mr Argent” Kevin then stood up and looked down at her“i think we both knew it was more than business, miss Angela. I'm getting really fond of you in a good way” Angela chuckled then smiled “i'm still your intern tho.” “i just wanna show you around the city, that's all.”he said Angela replied softly “okay,i'd like that very much, thank you’ Then Angela stood up, And they both stepped out. The morning light filtered softly through the curtains.Kevin’s mom smiled warmly as Angela and Kevin entered, and his dad gave a nod of greeting. Ava, already bustling with energy, waved from the kitchen. “Good morning, Angela! How are you feeling?” Kevin’s mom asked kindly. “Fine, thank you,” Angela replied, returning the smile. Breakfast aromas filled the room as Kevin’s mom began talking about the spread she had prepared. But Kevin cut in softly, “We’re planning to explore the city today. We’ll grab something on the go, so no need to wait on breakfast here.” Kevin mum smiled “oh,okay.Have fun.” Ava shouted from the kitchen “Make sure to get me ice cream on your way back” Kevin laughed “Okayyy, little sis”. Angela was excited and a little nervous about the day ahead. Back upstairs, Angela stood before the mirror, selecting a cute sundress. The calm morning breeze drifting in through the window matched her choice perfectly—simple, light, and effortless. The city outside looked peaceful, and she hoped the day would bring the same kind of calm. The city buzzed with a quiet charm, not overwhelming, but vibrant in its own way. Kevin drove with one hand on the wheel, the other casually resting by the window. Angela sat beside him, her sundress swaying slightly as the car turned corners, the wind teasing the strands of her hair. “You’ve got something on your mind,” Kevin said after a beat of silence. Angela glanced at him. “Just... taking it all in. It’s beautiful here.” They explored local spots—an art street filled with murals, a vintage bookstore, a cozy café with outdoor seating. They shared stories in between bites of warm croissants and sips of coffee, and slowly, Kevin began to peel back the layers. “My mom used to bring me here,” he said, nodding toward a quiet park. “Before things got... complicated.” Angela turned to look at him, but said nothing. She didn’t want to interrupt. She knew these were rare moments when Kevin allowed himself to be vulnerable. They wandered, laughed, and sometimes just walked in silence. The tension between them had softened—Kevin was beginning to let her in. As evening set in, city lights flickered on, painting everything in gold. They ended up at a bar—a low-lit place with music humming gently in the background. It felt natural. Easy. Almost too easy. Angela sipped a fruity cocktail while Kevin leaned against the bar, watching her with a slight smirk. “You’re not used to loosening up, are you?” he teased. She raised a brow. “Are you calling me stiff?” “Not exactly,” he chuckled. “Just... careful.” They moved to the dance floor, swaying to the rhythm. It was innocent at first. But as drinks flowed, Angela laughed louder, moved freer, until her steps stumbled, she was drunk. “I think I need a second,” she mumbled, heading toward the bathroom to splash cold water on her face. she got there and did was she came to do she was about to step out, then suddenly,A man, clearly drunk, staggered toward her, slurring something she couldn’t understand. When he tried to touch her arm, Angela backed up quickly, heart pounding. “Don’t touch me,” she said firmly. “what are you even doing in the girl's restroom” But he didn’t listen,he grabbed her arm harshly and pinned her against the wall “shh, sweetheart,I just wanna have some fun with you” Angela kept attempting to free herself but his grip was too tight and not to mention she was also drunk she cried outt The drunk man kept touching her—until Kevin appeared,And he was not happy. One punch. Then another. The man crumpled to the floor. Kevin’s jaw was tight, breathing heavy. “She told you not to touch her!.” he kept punching until the drunk was bleeding from his nose and now unconscious. “Let's leave” Angela didn’t argue.
