VI Disclosing the Truth During his absence, Mark checked in twice with Heather. She had just returned from visiting with Lori on Monday night when her phone beeped, signifying another call. Heather drained from her first day back at work, not to mention spending time with Lori and her two children, she was happy to hear his voice. Mark’s deep, gruff tone had never sounded so inviting. “Enjoying yourself with Matt and Sarah?” she said, struggling to remove her keys from the lock. Yanking them free, she kicked the door shut with her foot. “Yeah,” he said. “Not too sure about this ‘Uncle Mark’ stuff, though.” Despite her fatigue, Heather smiled.
