VII Denial Pulling into Mark’s driveway, Heather could still feel the irritation seething under her skin. She had hoped to rid herself of anger before arriving, but an earlier exchange with her sister continued to occupy her every thought. Try as she might, Heather could not erase it from her mind. Dawn contributed so little to the well-being of their mother and upkeep of the townhouse. Old mail and dirty dishes languished across the kitchen counter while small piles of her little sister’s possessions accumulated on the stairway. Furious with the condition of her mother’s home and Dawn’s inconsideration, Heather had called attention to her sister’s complete lack of responsibility.
