ISOBEL When I woke up again, the room was quiet, except for the sound of the machine beeping, and I could get the scent of antiseptic in the air. My body still ached, but it wasn’t as painful as before. I shifted slightly as I tried to test my strength, and I sighed in relief when the pain wasn’t as much. Mason wasn’t in the chair anymore.
