The fresh air felt good. I sat on a wooden bench, admiring Crockett Park. The summer evening lost some of its heat making it tolerable as night approached. Light posts dotted along the walking path; one by one they automatically came to life. In the near distance, traffic flowed at a steady pace while the woods surrounding the park, slowly darkened by the minute. Behind me, a baseball game was being played. Every now and then, the c***k from a metal bat dinged, followed by erupting cheers. Then everything went quiet once more.
