COME WHAT MAY
Tina had come from a deep village in Kapeeka, leaving her family of four alone. Now she was in Kampala Mengo, working as a maid or else a house helper of Gena a young maiden slightly of same age with her. Tina was now 18 two years younger than her mistress. She was working obediently cause she knew: though Gena was slightly same age with her, she was her boss.
Gena's parents were abroad per now. They had been there for two years leaving her alone in Kampala. Although they had left, they never abandoned her because they worked hand in hand to provide their daughter with everything she wanted. Among was a maid to do all her house chores and take care of her as well and that is when her father called his old friend Mathias in Kapeeka to find him a trustworthy girl to look after her spoiled daughter. Mr. Mathias in no time found Tina who had just finished her uce exams but with no hope of joining "A" level, asked her to go to Kampala and work.
At first, she was hesitant but when she looked at her drunkard father, poor mother who always worked from dawn to dusk to cater for the family and her twin sisters who lacked clothes and education made her heart flinch. Salt being added to the wound, her family had already lost hope since her elder brother who went to America has never returned and no one knew if he was still alive. They were living in agony and sometimes skipped meals that is to say; they skipped numerous breakfasts while in the garden ploughing and other times lunch. This all made Tina to make a decision to move to Kampala.
It was a glimpse of hope for her life to change with her family's. She in glee spoke with her mum who first felt hurt because she never wanted her daughter to work as a maid especially at her young age and at that time she was just sixteen. It was very hard for Tina to convince her mum but two heads are better than one because Mr. Mathias joined the conviction and when her mum learned that her daughter was to just take care of one person, she agreed.
Tina was extremely excited about her mum's decision and the fact that she was going to Kampala made her heart and soul to squeal in glee. It was her dream to leave her village that was a little bit back ward as she thought and see new things that were being enchanted by her friend Madi who always visited her aunt in Kampala. She packed all her clothes that she thought were good to wear in the city. She put the clothes and other personal stuff in her bag her mum had bought her on her last birthday.
The night to her departure was very long in her judgement because she rolled under the sheets over and over again. She day dreamt of what kind Kampala may be, which flat is taller? But her heart always skipped whenever she thought of the job she was going to do. Adding salt to the wound, she was going to serve her slightly age mate as Mr. Mathias explained to her. She had never worked for anyone before. All in all she composed herself and "Come what may." She muttered to herself. "can you stop over turning? You are disturbing my sleep." Her twin sister said sleepily which made to her concentrate on sleeping until her mind became blank.
