Bree
I tried to ignore the noises, tried not to worry, but they were getting louder and coming closer. Then they were right outside my door.
There was a loud crashing noise, growling, and a grunt. Then my door flew open. Or, more accurately, my door flew off its hinges.
There was Chayton, standing in the doorway, and Jamie sitting against the wall, which had a huge dent in it.
I stopped pacing and stared. "Wha...?"
Chayton walked in and closed the door, then he whispered, "They're after you, the vampires from Sanguis. They'll be able to find you no matter what, like I did, unless you come with me."
My eyes widened. "How? Why?"
"I can explain if you come! There's no time, come on! And tell your friend to leave me alone, he has a nasty bite..."
Jamie burst through the door at that moment, growling and breathing heavy. "Get. Out. She isn't going anywhere! You're just going to take her to wherever you go and feed off her! Or maybe even take her back to Sanguis!"
Chayton looked at him desperately. "They'll be here within minutes... Please don't make me use force."
Jamie growled, and within seconds he morphed into a giant wolf, covered in jet black fur.
I slowly slid off the bed, putting it between them and me. They stood and glared at each other for a minute, but before either of them could make a move there was a banging downstairs that moved quickly upwards. I vaulted over the bed and crouched on the floor behind it, watching what I could see underneath.
About five people, vampires I guessed, ran into the room. One of them, a red-haired woman, looked at Chayton and demanded, "Where is she, Chay? I can sense her here!"
Jamie made an angry barking growl aimed at Chayton before he lunged at the vampires.
"Jamie!" I yelped. Then realized how dumb that was, now they knew I was there. I wanted to smack myself but I didn't have the time.
In unison, everyone looked at me. I froze and felt a chill go through my body. Chayton swore under his breath and lunged at me, I couldn't move. He picked me up and jumped out the window, and everyone snapped into action behind us. The other vampires and Jamie all scrambled after us.
Chayton ran incredibly fast, but Jamie as a wolf was faster. He knocked Chayton down and grabbed me before I hit the ground.
But by then the other vampires had caught up and they tackled Jamie, then pulled me away from him.
I struggled, trying to get away from everyone, but the red-haired vampire pulled a bag over my head and dragged me away. I felt weak, struggling against that vampire. She was no bigger than me yet at least three times stronger.
I heard fighting that faded away into the distance. Why was everyone fighting over me so much? I wasn't all that important, and nobody there was really worried about my being dangerous it seemed... I mean, if they were really worried I was dangerous or could even escape they would’ve knocked me out or something.
After about half an hour, we stopped. I was pushed down and my hands yanked behind me, and they were tied up around something, probably a tree judging by the roughness.
I heard footsteps approaching and then voices. Voices I didn’t recognize.
"Are they taken care of?"
"They escaped... But we are sure they did not follow us."
There was a menacing growl. "Chayton has drunk from her, he will be able to follow! And wolves use their nose, idiots! They can follow whenever they wish!"
"Yes, Ma'am, we know. But it is two to five, considering the team up, one to five if they don’t. Which they likely won’t. We can manage can't we?"
"True, you get all the watching shifts." This was followed by a disappointed moan.
"Oh, quit complaining. You'll live!"
"Yeah... How long do we have to stay out here?"
"Until the queen is taken care of, you know that! And don't you dare ask how long that'll be, because I know as much as you!"
"Does she know? About why we taking her?"
"No, and we aren't telling either! You know the king wants to tell her."
The king? Tell me what? Why, what would a king want me for?! Bad idea as it was, I decided to ask some questions... At least I knew I wouldn't die if a king wanted me.
"Where are you taking me?" I asked, trying to sound confident and failing.
The conversation stopped, and I could feel eyes boring into me even though I couldn't see them. Did vampires have laser vision too, by any chance?
"To your new home. No more questions!" Someone snapped.
I shut my mouth, but couldn't help letting out a hiss of frustration.
"Ooh, she's mad!" Someone taunted.
There was a smacking sound and a muffled grunt, and someone whispered, "This is the same girlie that knocked Tay's teeth out, you wanna be next?"
"She's tied up, she can't hurt me!"
"If the plan goes through she could kill you if she wanted, so can it!"
They went back to silence.
I went back to thinking.
