Coach Torres carried the Governor’s Cup schedule and bracket as he walked into the gymnasium. His face was grim as he called out to his team.
“Gather up!” he yelled.
As the captain, Shiloh quickly gathered his teammates one by one and stood in front of their coach.
“I have the schedule for the Governor’s Cup. We only have a week to prepare, so I want all of you to take this seriously,” Torres said.
“Your first match is against Kornwell University.” He paused and looked at his players. “I’ll be calling the starting five. Step forward when I call your name," he said.
“Kayden, Connor, David, Theo, and Marcus.”
The team exchanged surprised looks. Shiloh’s name wasn’t called. Shiloh clenched his hand into a fist.
“Wait, Coach! Why isn’t the captain on the list?” Connor asked.
