CHAPTER 13
The next morning, Lanie was cleaning the kitchen after seeing Chris off on the school bus. Marcel called her name as he came in the front door.
Lanie went to see what he wanted. It was strange for him to come in the front door after going to the barn to check on the mares and new babies. He usually came in the back door.
Lanie looked up in surprise when she entered the front room.
“We have company,” said Marcel with a smile.
“Bobby Joe, Billy Joe, what are you doing here?” asked Lanie as she came forward to greet the brothers.
“We overheard some people talking to George in the bar, and we were worried about you,” said Bobby Joe.
“Yeah,” agreed Billy Joe. “We wanted to be sure you were alright and to warn you about what is going on.”
