Chapter 25: Not Heartless Enough

As soon as I get home, I rush to my father’s office and place the keycard where it was. A noise startles me as I’m about to step out of the office. Stepping back into the doorway, I take a couple of deep breaths as the sound of muffled footsteps come closer.
As quietly as I can, I close the office door, close my eyes, and concentrate my super hearing. My heart pounds wildly in my chest, and my throat grows dry. I’m sure its Clarissa’s footsteps that I’ hearing because they’re light but purposeful. Fearing discovery, I search the room, but there’s nothing I can use.
