CHAPTER 4

--- "Are we going to sleep here?" Let asked nervously, as five of us girls shared a single room. "Where did they take the others?" she added, her voice trembling. The room was beautiful—luxurious, almost like something out of a mansion. It was the kind of place only the rich could afford. What kind of school is this? I couldn’t understand what they wanted from us. Were they just training us? Or were they preparing to kill us one day? The room was brightly lit, and we were on the third floor of the building. I wandered around slowly, letting my eyes take in every detail. The place felt surreal. I walked to the window, feeling an inexplicable sense of relief as I opened it. A cool breeze swept in, and I closed my eyes, savoring the moment. My gaze wandered up to the sky. The stars were countless, and the moon shone brightly. I missed my mother. The thought came suddenly, and tears welled in my eyes. I touched them as they fell—they were cold, like tiny shards of ice. "Why am I feeling like this?" I whispered, touching my lips, which had parted unconsciously. What is happening to me? My gaze was drawn upward, and the air itself seemed to change. Then, I noticed someone above me. It wasn’t surprising, given that the beings here weren’t human. Still, I wasn’t prepared to see the mysterious man sitting cross-legged in midair. He had headphones slung around his neck, and his presence exuded something I couldn’t quite place. He closed his eyes and seemed to be absorbing the wind around him. The trees swayed as if singing in harmony with the breeze. Who are you? My breath hitched when, suddenly, his eyes opened, and they locked onto mine. I stumbled back, startled, and quickly shut the window. I sat on my bed, trembling. "I need to find out where this place is," I muttered to myself. My companions were sound asleep, even as fear lingered in the room. I was determined. I would find my parents in this world, even if I didn’t know if they were alive. I had to know. The next morning, we woke up early. We didn’t dare wake the others, uncertain about what they might do to us. I sat by the window, staring blankly into the sky. Its colors were beautiful, yet something about it felt off. My thoughts were interrupted when an older woman entered our room. We started to rise, but she gestured for us to stay seated. "There’s no need," she said with a faint smile. "Since you’re all new, you won’t be joining the Fight Class just yet," the woman said. Shady, one of my roommates, coughed awkwardly. After spending just one night together, we already knew each other well. It was clear none of us could rely on anyone else but ourselves. Shady’s apology was met with a sharp look from the woman. "You’ll be watching a real fight tomorrow," she continued, her tone serious. "I want you to prepare yourselves for what’s to come. We don’t tolerate weaklings here." Her smile was fake, and her gaze lingered on each of us. "I am Madam Elisa," she introduced herself. "I will be supervising you." With that, she formally excused herself and left the room with her assistant. "I didn’t know there were ‘Madams’ in this world," Light muttered irritably. She came from a wealthy family and had told us her father was a mayor back in the human world. "Where exactly are we?" Chan crossed her arms, her expression defiant. "I want to find out," I said, standing abruptly. My sudden movement caught their attention. "Let’s escape." Their eyes widened in shock. "Let’s leave this place," I repeated firmly. "There’s no harm in trying to see what’s outside, is there?" My voice cracked slightly, but I stood my ground. "What? Are you insane?" Light exclaimed. "We don’t know what dangers are waiting for us out there!" "And you’re okay with dying here?" I countered, my voice rising. "Do you want to die in this place? Don’t you want to go back to your families in our world?" No one answered. "Fine," I said resolutely. "I want to go back." I moved toward the door, but Let spoke up. "I’ll go with you, Summer," she said. "Me too," Chan agreed. "I don’t want to die here," Shady added. I looked at Light, who hesitated before nodding reluctantly. "Good," I said, a faint smile forming on my lips. "I have a plan." --- Later, we were outside, joined by others, including Tymo, the only guy I trusted among the group. We sat at the back of the training grounds, listening to Teacher Sandy. She had the power to see people’s futures and could even alter them. "Now, each of you will show me what you can do," she said, her gaze stern. She stood to the side, watching as the students demonstrated their abilities. The first was a girl with a sweet face, but we knew better—she was the same girl who had fought us when we first arrived. Massive rocks floated around her, and she screamed as she hurled them with incredible force, sending them crashing into the ground. The sheer power left me stunned. One by one, the students displayed their unique skills. None of us newcomers dared to move. We had no powers, no abilities. We couldn’t even fly. We were pitiful. "You," Teacher Sandy said, pointing at me. "Come forward and show me what you can do." I froze, my legs trembling as I stood. What do I show? What can I do? All eyes were on me. My classmates were watching, their powers already displayed. I swallowed hard, feeling the weight of their judgment. Then, without warning, someone threw a ball of fire at me. I managed to dodge, but just barely. "Won’t you move?" Teacher Sandy asked, raising an eyebrow. "Who wants to fight her?" she asked the class. Hands shot up—boys and girls alike eager to take me down. Teacher Sandy smiled and pointed to one of them. "Sara, you’ll fight her." Sara stepped forward, her speed and agility making her an intimidating opponent. Teacher Sandy sat back, but the room fell silent as someone else entered. The air grew heavy. The students stood, bowing their heads. Sara’s smirk vanished, replaced by fear. I turned to see a man approaching, his hands in his pockets. His expression was unreadable. His white hair and sharp features made him look ethereal, almost unreal. "Lord," Teacher Sandy whispered, her voice trembling. ---
