Chapter 7 Here for Bruno?

1168 Words
Angela's actions were clearly meant to stand up for Viola. Viola appreciated Angela's good intentions but didn't want to cause her any unnecessary trouble. She said, "There's no need to go this far." Angela waved her off. "Nonsense. Anyone who messes with my friends is messing with me." With that, three or four security guards approached Bruno. "Mr. Burton, please leave." Bruno's face darkened with embarrassment. Just when things couldn't get any worse for him, he spotted a familiar figure in the distance, and his expression instantly brightened. "Arthur!" Everyone turned to look. Not far away, a tall man in a black suit was making his way toward them. His commanding presence was impossible to ignore. Arthur approached with calm, confident strides, his posture straight and his aura exuding natural authority. Arthur, head of the prestigious Harel family—one of the top three families in Lagos City—had a reputation that preceded him. His mother Estella Burton was the daughter of the former Harel family patriarch, and his father Hugo Burton was the eldest son of the Burton family. It was said that within just a year, Arthur had single-handedly revived the crumbling Harel family and restored it to its former glory, making the family a force that no one in Lagos City dared to challenge. Just when everyone thought he would expand his influence further, he left the country three years ago to explore international markets. He'd only recently returned. As she saw him, Viola's brows knitted together. 'Arthur is not someone you want to provoke...' "Arthur, thank goodness you're here! These people are acting like they don't care about Harel Group. You have to do something about them!" Bruno quickly complained. Arthur's gaze was sharp as he coldly asked, "Do you work for Harel Group?" "Who gave you the right to throw our name around and behave like a bully?" The pressure from his words was enough to make Bruno fall silent. He clenched his jaw but didn't dare speak. Lori, who had never seen such a striking and charismatic man, was clearly captivated. Even Bruno paled in comparison to Arthur. She wanted to inch closer but restrained herself, knowing Bruno was watching. "Arthur, there's been a misunderstanding. Bruno and my sister are about to get divorced, and she's been kicked out of the Abbott family. Maybe she's struggling to cope emotionally, which is why she's here to relax." She added with false concern, "But seeing her behave like this—it really hurts us. We just wanted to help her, but she refused to listen." Kate, furious at Lori's shameless lies, was ready to lunge at her, but Viola held her back. Before anyone could say more, Arthur raised an eyebrow and coolly asked, "So coming to a place like this makes you two more respectable?" Both Bruno and Lori turned bright red, utterly speechless. Arthur's gaze then shifted to Viola, his eyes sharp and calculating. "You're planning to divorce Bruno?" The room fell into a heavy silence. Everyone in Lagos City knew that Arthur was a powerful figure in both the legal and underground worlds. And Bruno was his nephew. Viola had humiliated Bruno in public, and it seemed like she was about to face some serious consequences. After a brief pause, Viola calmly answered, "Yes." The crowd collectively held their breath, sensing the tension in the air. Arthur remained silent, his deep, cold eyes narrowing slightly. Sensing an opportunity, Lori quickly jumped in. "Viola, marrying into the Burton family was a huge blessing for you. Now that things between you and Bruno are over, it would be best to part on good terms. The 10% of Burton Group shares you're asking for aren't yours to take. Why are you being so greedy?" "If this goes to court, it won't look good for you," she added, pretending to be helpful but really trying to paint Viola as a greedy, gold-digging opportunist, hoping Arthur would turn against her. Kate's eyes blazed with anger, and she practically exploded. "Lori, do you have any shame at all? Clinging to Bruno and playing the part of the mistress like it's a role you love!" "And even if Viola wanted all of Burton Group's shares, Bruno would still be the one getting off easy!" Startled by Kate's outburst, Lori took a few steps back, looking shaken. Seeing her distress, Bruno immediately pulled Lori into his arms, his voice soft and soothing. "Don't worry, with my uncle here, you have nothing to be afraid of." Lori leaned into him, seemingly regaining her composure. She wrapped her arms around his and, in her usual delicate manner, said, "Ms. Changs, this is a private matter between my sister and the Burton family. As an outsider, you really shouldn't interfere." She then turned to Arthur with big, tearful eyes. "Arthur, you're the elder. You should be the one to settle this." Her fragile, pitiful act stood in stark contrast to Kate's fiery temper, making it appear, to any bystander, as though Viola's side was being unreasonable. Angela chuckled coldly. She had seen her fair share of manipulative people, but Lori was an exceptional performer, using her innocent facade to the fullest. As she looked directly at Lori, Angela's smile was sharp. "Miss, are you really sure you're her sister? Because I've never seen a 'sister' who's all over her sister's husband while the divorce papers haven't even been signed." "You two are so blatant, it's disgusting for everyone watching. And honestly, who's going to believe anything coming from the mouth of a mistress who's eager to badmouth her own sister and steal her man?" Lori's face turned crimson with embarrassment, rendered speechless by Angela's cutting words. Around them, the crowd's judgmental gazes grew sharper, and the humiliation burned through her. She quickly untangled herself from Bruno's embrace. But her eyes still sought his support, pleading softly, "Bruno..." "That's enough," Angela cut in, waving dismissively. "This isn't some stage for your little drama. If you're that desperate to make it big in showbiz, go find another venue." Completely done with Lori's theatrics, Angela signaled to the security guards to escort them out. "Arthur!" Lori and Bruno panicked as the security guards moved in. Getting thrown out in front of everyone would be an unbearable embarrassment. They would be the laughingstock of Lagos City's elite. But Arthur acted as though he hadn't heard Bruno's desperate plea. His eyes remained fixed on Viola, unreadable and intense. He asked calmly, "So, you're really asking for 10% of Burton Group's shares?" The moment he spoke, all eyes turned to Viola. Kate suddenly seemed to realize something. Leaning toward Viola, she whispered, "Viola, no matter what, Arthur is still part of the Burton family. He's probably not going to like the idea of Burton Group's shares ending up with an outsider. What if he doesn't agree and tries to make things difficult for you?" "Maybe we should drop the 10%? It might not be worth the fight."
