“Here for the s*x slave?” Bolt asked the moment Mandela appeared in the dungeon.
“sss isn’t around.”
“Hand her over,” Mandela replied simply.
Bolt smiled before opening the gate.
Ramona was lying on the ground, already fast asleep.
“Hey, get up,” he said.
Her ears twitched at the sound of his voice before she slowly rose to her feet.
He grabbed her by the arm and led her out of the room.
“Hey, you look cool. Let’s be friends,” Bolt said.
Mandela stopped and glanced back at him.
“Not interested,” he replied flatly before continuing to lead Ramona away.
“How cold,” Bolt muttered.
**
The walk to Arthur’s suite was silent, but Mandela couldn’t stop staring at Ramona.
He kept getting the strange feeling that he knew her from somewhere, and the thought was becoming increasingly disturbing.
“Excuse me,” she suddenly said.
Mandela stopped walking.
“You’re... the personal bodyguard of the new king, right?” she asked with a faint smile.
Mandela said nothing. He simply stared at her.
“You seem kind. Not like the guards of the former king,” she continued.
“You can’t even see me. You’re blindfolded,” he replied.
“Still... I know you’re a nice person. You even tied a piece of cloth around my wounded toe the other time. No one has ever done that for me since I became a slave.”
She smiled faintly.
Mandela gave her a sympathetic look before finally asking the question that had been bothering him.
“Before you became a personal maid to the late Princess Elena, what was your job?”
“I ran a teashop with my mother. Back then, my mother could still see,” she replied.
Mandela’s eyes widened.
“We should go. His Majesty might get angry,” she added.
Mandela grabbed her arm again, and they resumed their walk.
When they finally reached Arthur’s doorstep, Mandela turned toward her.
“The name of the teashop was STEAMY, right?” he asked.
Ramona’s lips parted in surprise.
“How did you... know that? Do you know me?”
A tear immediately slipped from Mandela’s eye.
He opened the door, and Ramona walked inside without receiving an answer.
“It’s you,” he whispered.
He quickly wiped away his tears before walking away.
***
Arthur was drinking from a cup of Viagra when Ramona entered, but he immediately set it down and stood.
He was already shirtless.
“Take off your clothes,” he ordered.
Ramona slowly obeyed.
Arthur’s eyes darkened as he stared at her, and a faint smirk appeared on his lips.
It was surprising that she had endured ten years of slavery and still appeared so composed. She had no idea why her body continued to respond to him despite everything she had experienced.
She lowered the tattered fabric covering her body, and her nakedness immediately captured Arthur’s attention.
A rush of dark thoughts flooded his mind.
In an instant, he moved toward her.
He turned her around and bent her over the golden table.
“Ah!”
A gasp escaped her lips.
Her body pressed against the table as Arthur held her firmly.
This was different from the way he had handled her the previous night.
She could already feel the difference in the atmosphere.
Would she cry again?
Arthur moved with renewed aggression, determined to force a reaction from her.
But something was wrong.
Ramona wasn’t reacting the way he expected.
He had intended to make her suffer, yet she remained strangely composed.
She was neither crying nor begging.
Instead, an unfamiliar sensation slowly spread through her body.
“Oh my!” she gasped.
She gripped the table tighter as the strange sensation intensified.
Her mind became hazy, and for a moment, she seemed completely lost in the unfamiliar feeling.
“Oh... yes!”
The moan escaped her lips before she could stop it.
Arthur suddenly froze.
Ramona immediately realized what she had done.
“I’m... I’m sorry, Your Majesty!” she pleaded quickly.
Arthur stepped away from her.
Ramona dropped to her knees before him.
She desperately tried to regain her composure, but the situation had already become confusing for both of them.
Arthur stared down at her, breathing heavily.
Something was wrong.
His power had worked on countless people before.
Why wasn’t it working on her?
Why was she reacting differently?
He finally turned away.
“Leave.”
Ramona quickly gathered her tattered clothes and put them back on.
Mandela entered shortly afterward and escorted her away.
Arthur immediately disappeared into his bathroom.
He climbed into the tub, closed his eyes, and rested his head against the edge.
When was the last time he had experienced something that confusing?
He couldn't remember.
Why hadn't his energy worked on her?
Why hadn't she reacted with the pain he intended to inflict?
And why was she seemingly immune to things that should have affected her?
Who exactly was Ramona?
The questions raced through his mind until they nearly drove him insane.
As usual, he submerged himself completely in the water.
***
Mandela stepped out of the dungeon after dropping Ramona off and immediately noticed Alice waiting nearby.
“Your Highness,” he said, quickly bowing.
She smiled.
“You look more handsome tonight.”
“Thank you, Your Highness,” he replied.
He turned to leave, but she gently caught his arm.
“Please escort me back to my suite.”
Mandela nodded once. He discreetly removed his hand from hers before beginning the walk beside her.
“Do you like it here?” she asked.
“Even if I don’t, I can’t run away. I must stay with His Majesty no matter what,” he replied.
“You’re a loyal cat,” she teased.
Mandela turned toward her.
“You know I’m a cat?”
“It’s obvious. I’m not a witch for nothing,” she replied.
“But you look weak,” he said.
“My powers were seized.”
Mandela raised a brow.
“Why?”
“I don’t know either. I lost them overnight, and I’m hoping they return soon.”
They continued walking until they finally reached the entrance to her suite.
“Thanks for escorting me,” Alice said.
“Next time, you should stroll with your maids,” Mandela replied.
“I enjoy your company more. Will you do it with me every day?”
She smiled.
“Your Highness...”
“I won’t take no for an answer. Goodnight, Mandela.”
She interrupted him with another smile before entering her room.
The moment she stepped inside, a familiar energy suddenly seized her.
Her body lifted into the air.
She began spinning uncontrollably before being thrown back toward the floor.
“ARGHHHHHH!”
She crashed down violently.
Pain shot through her arm and head.
Someone suddenly appeared beside her.
“Kira,” she muttered in shock.
“How dare you even talk to Mandela? He belongs to me! I claimed him first, the moment he stepped into this place!”
“Shakira, you—”
“Stay the hell away from him! Otherwise, I’m going to kill you! And your death will be worse than Elena’s, you powerless witch!”
Shakira struck her across the face before storming out of the room.
NEXT MORNING: QUEEN DOWAGER’S SUITE
“I told you Cobra is incredibly powerful. He controls the wind just like you. He controls the moon and the sun. He controls rain and snow. He’s practically a semi-devil,” the Queen Dowager said.
Arthur was already seated before her.
“Like he said, it’s only the beginning. And I’m not backing down either,” he replied.
“The virgin maidens will start arriving soon. The selection will take place on my terrace,” she said.
Arthur sighed.
“And Logan reported something to me concerning Ramona,” she added.
Arthur looked at her.
“You slept with her even though you know the repercussions! She’s meant for everyone, not just you!”
“I did it blindly. I wasn’t in my right mind,” he replied calmly.
“How could you do that?!”
The Queen Dowager's voice rose again.
Arthur glared at her.
“I am the king! Learning to respect me will help you live longer, Queen Dowager!”
His voice thundered through the room, silencing her.
“The other kings might have been your puppets, but I am not them! I’m Arthur McCarthy, the Guardian of Dove Forest! A divine demigod! The King of this empire!”
He rose to his feet and stormed out.
The Queen Dowager remained silent.
