Chapter one: My father’s choice

855 Words
Adrian’s POV "Pole dancing never felt better " I said to myself... I sat in the private booth, with my gaze fixed directly on the lady on the pole moving effortlessly like she owns the staged. "And of course she does" I thought. "I have seen thousands of strippers but this one felt different " I muttered. Something in me had awakened. Lust?. It felt so, because the hair on my body stood like they were waiting for something. I was already thinking of my d**k sliding into her wet p***y as her body moved beneath the dim red light. I felt something I have never felt before. "This is the first time I have felt like this in a long time". I want her. I turned towards Nicholas. "I want her". "The dancer". Nicholas followed my gaze and immediately shook his head. "Adrian, Strippers aren't allowed to sleep with clients, they have other women for that". I looked at her again. "An exception must be made for me," I said to my friend sitting beside me. Nicholas stood up and headed towards where he'd talk to the people in charge. ONE YEAR EARLIER "Your relationship with Evelyn must continue”. My father's voice was rigid as always. I laughed bitterly. "You make it sound like a business contract”. "Definitely, everything associated with this family must be business minded”. That was my father, Richard Alexander. A man who could turn his own son's happiness into a negotiation. Sometimes I wondered if he loves me or I was only a means to success for him. Evelyn Sinclair has been my childhood friend, the love I have for her isn't beyond friendship. I can't imagine what a relationship with her would look like. I sat on my office desk trying to put everything together. "I don't love Evelyn”. I screamed at myself. But my father didn't care. The Sinclair family was powerful, wealthy and connected. A marriage between us would greatly strengthen both families financially. "But at the cost of my happiness?”. I asked myself quietly. But eventually, I gave in. Not because I love or wanted Evelyn but because I knew my father would never stop. So Evelyn and I started dating. At first, everything looked perfect and both families looked happy and the newspaper loved us. She looked perfect. But I wasn't looking for a perfect woman. I wanted a woman I could choose. But Evelyn wasn't my choice. She knew it too. "Your attention is never really here" Said Evelyn one evening at a restaurant. "What do you mean?". Of course I knew what she meant. Her eyes became teary "Do you really love me?. She asked with tears in her eyes. That question had followed me for months. But I avoided answering it. That night, I couldn't. "No." I said with a straight face. Her face fell. For the first time since I've known Evelyn I watched her swallow her tears. "Then why are we still doing this?.” “Because my father...” “Your father.” She laughed sacarstically. “I have never experienced love in months since this relationship started, i know it's a transaction but something in me was convinced we'd develop feelings for each other at some point, but you're still cold towards me like you're doing something far beyond your desires, i need my best friend that loves me not some guy forced to love and marry me” She walked away. For minutes I stood there in pains because those words broke me. I hurt her feelings trying to make my family happy. I knew this wouldn't work but I went ahead. Evelyn genuinely loves me but I don't love her that way. Alexander Global Holdings wasn't simply a company. It was our family's legacy. And my father had made it clear that my future as heir came with conditions. One of them was marriage. Preferably to Evelyn. “You will understand when you're older,” he'd always remind me. I was already thirty. So yes I understood perfectly. “Your inheritance is not something you throw away because of your emotions and feelings .” He would always say. "I must make amends" I said to myself after giving it a thought. My dad was right. Business comes first. I rushed to her apartment. After the first knock,I heard a voice from the window. It's almost like she was expecting me. "What do you want?" She shouted from inside. "Can we talk please?” She hesitated at first but later opened the door. We sat for about a minute while silence surrounded the whole place. "Evelyn, can we sort this out?Can we try again and see if this works?" I broke the silence. "I know I've been an asshole but please let's make this work" After a lot of promises to make it work, her heart softened and she gave me a tight hug. "Okay babe! Let's give it a try again " We started kissing and I grabbed her and went straight into the bedroom.
