Chapter 8

Emily’s POV: “What is happening? Make it stop!” I pleaded with the guy that was now beside me. I don’t know why but I felt sparks when he touched me. I couldn’t really focus on that at the moment though, the breaking of every single bone in my body was kind of distracting me from his deep brown eyes. Just when I thought I was going to pass out from the amount of pain I was in, my ear perked up at a scream coming from inside. Coming from my mom. Mom is in trouble. I felt a growl form deep in my throat and I didn’t try to stop it. I felt a great power as I let go of my hold on myself. The most painful thing I’ve ever experienced, pushed its way through my body. I could see but all the actions weren’t just mine. It felt as though I was just watching as white furry paws were running under me. I can feel as my body tightens as I, or Rylee, jumped hard and landed with all four legs on the door knocking it down. It seemed as though I was doing all of this but it was really just Rylee doing it. I had no say in what was happening, but I felt every bit of it as if it was my own body. Rylee didn’t even pause for a second as I was absolutely blown away by her power. She races through the door and is immediately met with several people dressed in black. They were all extremely pale to look at as though they hadn’t seen the sun in years. Rylee seemed to smile as she started to size them up. One by one they started to charge. Rylee let out a low growl and jumped onto the first one that came for us. I didn’t want to watch as she continued to bite down on these people and rip their heads off their bodies. The smell of blood filled the air and Rylee kept on going. Once there were one two left, she panted as slowly started to walk towards them, the look of absolute terror in their eyes. I could feel as Rylee thought about how to kill them in the quickest way possible. Just as Rylee was about to pounce on them, the hair on the back of my head stood up and a sweet scent filled the air. Rylee looked behind us to see the guy from earlier standing with a smile on his face. The attackers took this moment to strike. The boy ran to my aid but was quickly tackled to the ground by several people and injected with a needle that made it sound like he was choking. His body then went limp and he was thrown over the shoulder of a very tall and muscular man. It didn’t take long for reinforcements to show up for the attackers and I was quickly overrun with them. As a bunch of them jumped on me. I had to use all my strength to get up. Soon one guy ran towards me with a syringe filled with a yellow liquid. As he pushed the needle in my side, I could tell that Rylee was getting weaker. I still fought with all the strength I could muster up and with some quick movement, I flung some of the attackers that were on me into the wall. A woman with dark skin and black hair appeared in my line of vision. She held up her hands and was chanting something in my direction. A splitting headache hit me as Rylee let out a screeching howl in pain. My vision was fuzzy as the woman walked towards me. Her hands are still up and pointed in my direction. The headache gets worse every step she takes until I can’t keep my eyes open. Rylee began to whimper and rub her ears with her paws to try to stop the noise. The people that were holding me down tied chains around my hind legs and began to drag me. I was absolutely surrounded by people in black and had no clue how to get away from them. The woman continued to follow us through the hallways, and I have lost track of where we are if I plan to escape from here. My head was still pounding and whatever the liquid was in that syringe was still affecting my ability to do much. Soon enough we entered a bigger room and the pain the woman seemed to be causing stopped. I was still unable to move my body much and the chains around my legs were starting to really sting. A part of me thought about how in a mythology course I took last year taught by Mrs. Johnson, or Abigail. She had talked about how werewolves were affected by silver. She also mentioned a yellow plant that was once used to weaken one’s wolf. It was called wolfsbane. That must be what I was injected with. I lifted my head as I heard footsteps approaching me. I looked to see my mother and Abigail’s wolf running in my direction. “Are you hurt? Is everything okay? Oh my precious baby girl. I’m so sorry I didn’t tell you anything about this yet. I should have told you.” My mother says and she hugs Rylees neck. Abigail’s wolf immediately turned around and took a fighting stance in front of us while some woman walked ever so slowly in our direction. She has extremely straight hair pulled up into a high ponytail, and wears jeans with a black jacket on. If they didn’t seem threatened by her, I’d say she was quite beautiful. Almost perfect. The only flaw I could even see was the fact that her cheekbones looked slightly uneven. “Hello, my dear. I’m sure you have heard of me.” She hissed out at me while raising an eyebrow and taking a stance with her hand on her hip. I c**k my head to the side because I truly haven’t a single clue who in the world she is. She must have noticed because she rolled her eyes and made a sound of disgust. “Well, seeing how you haven’t been brought to the realization yet, my name is Svetlana.” I couldn’t help but know Rylees ears perked up at this. “Ah, so you have heard of me. Don’t you worry dear. I am not going to kill you. I simply want your blood and an endless supply of it. You are to join my supernatural council. If you refuse, I’ll do everything in my power to kill everyone you have ever loved.” A growl escaped my mouth at the thought of her hurting anyone, but the only one I’ve ever loved was my mother. That must be why she kidnapped her. To get me here. “I highly doubt you will be taking her today, ma’am.” The boy from earlier exclaimed as he threw a full grown man out of his way. The big muscular man that had been carrying him was knocked out cold on the floor beside him. I couldn’t help but smile inwardly. Why do we feel this way about him? I have literally never seen this boy before in my life. He is our mate! He’s our future husband. Well, he’s kinda hot. And strong too. “You see, Svetlana is it? My Alpha has not approved of your council and he never will. No one can say for sure as to why but it could be that you are just a b***h and he doesn’t like anything about you.” The boy went on to say almost like he was bragging about it. “You see, Alpha John will gladly storm this place as he is waiting just a minute away, waiting on my say to attack.” Svetlana seemed to get genuinely scared by his statement. “You’re bluffing.” Her voice was shaking as her hands formed fists at her side. “Try me.” The boy was now standing inches from her looking directly into her eyes. She scanned his eyes and then released her fists. She took a few steps back and then looked around her. “Gather everyone. NOW!” She shouted and the people around us began to frantically run around. “You will regret this, young Alpha.” She stared directly at me as she made that threat. Before she put her hand down from pointing at me, several muscular men surrounded her and they walked away. “Stay in wolf form until we are certain that she’s gone.” My mother whispered to me. The people were all leaving as Svetlana did. Some were badly bitten and if legends are true, they will die soon. The boy turned to me with the kindest eyes as he walked closer to me. Abigail growled at him which was immediately met by my growls at her. I can’t explain it, but it really feels like I have known this guy since I was born. “Hey there, take it easy. No need to growl. I am from Alpha John Wilson’s pack. My father is his top beta, Austin Miller.” The boy stated. My father is here? “John Wilson? The John Wilson? Why would his pack be here?” Jacob asked while he was picking up arrows around the room. “He isn’t. It’s just me.” “And you are..?” My mother asked. “Right. My name is Hunter Miller ma’am.” “Okay? What did you mean by it’s just you? You told Svetlana the whole pack was outside?” Abigail said, putting on her husband's jacket after shifting back into her human form. “Well you see, I figured you guys were dead without my help. If she didn’t believe me, we would have died anyway. But if she did, we would all hopefully live! I just had to be believable. Might as well risk my life for my mate without actually knowing who she is, am I right?” Hunter stuck his arms out and winked at me. “Mate? You mean Emily is your mate?” My mom stood back as if she couldn’t believe what he said. “Yes ma’am. I am her mate. If you don’t mind, I would like to formally meet you, Emily.” He took his jacket off and handed it to my mom. He then proceeded to turn around and hold his hands in front of him. I took this as he wanted me to shift back into human form. This was not nearly as painful as it was shifting into wolf form, but still kind of painful. When I saw my arms and legs, I got up as gracefully as a newborn learning to walk for the first time. My mother handed me the leather jacket of hunters. I put it on and was very grateful for him lending it to me. I still have no clue what a mate means, but the smell that came off the jacket was intoxicating. I never wanted to give this jacket back. I folded the openings over one another to try and hide my nakedness. “Thank you, Hunter.” I said softly, placing a hand on his shoulder. Sparks ignited the moment I touched him and his whole body tensed. “My pleasure sweetheart.” He turned around to face me. I felt my face get hot and I went to tuck my hair behind my ears. I’ve never actually had a guy talk to me that way before. Sure, I’ve had guys stare at me, but never actually flirted with me. If this event was flirting. He reached around and put his arm across my shoulders. “Now why don’t we get out of here..” Hunter began but was cut off by the noise of an arrow being drawn back. “Alpha Emily. Daughter of Anna Harmon and John Wilson.” Jacob stated. His eyes were not even in focus as if he were in a trance. “I warned you that I would kill your loved ones as a result of denying my invitation to the council. Jacob has been told to kill upon my departure. Please take this as a warning that I mean business.” He let go of the arrow, and it flew past me. I don’t understand what was happening. Until I realized who was standing behind me. “MOM!” I screamed.
