Anna’s POV:
Today is Emily‘s 18th birthday. There are a lot of things that I wish I would’ve told her, and I haven’t. Like the fact that she’s a werewolf. I have kept that secret from her for 18 years, and today it was going to bite me on the butt. When a werewolf gains their wolf counterparts, the wolf side takes over and they begin to shift. So basically, when the human side of the werewolf games their wolf, they shift for the first time. Emily could gain her wolf counterpart at any time during the day, so I have to keep an eye on her all day. No one can know that she is a werewolf. Especially in a world full of humans that just think supernatural beings are myths.
I usually work nights, but I asked for last night off so that I could keep an eye on Emily the whole night. I Left the apartment last night at my usual time of work, but instead of going to work I just drove to the woods. When I got out there, I went to a special place of mine. I have an area in the woods where I get to shift at free will, so I can let my wolf Katherine out. I went out to the area to shift into wolf form to better watch Emily throughout the night.
I feel bad lying to Emily her whole life, telling her that we were broke and had no money to our names. I rarely ever reached into the bank account that Emily‘s father left us, But I still use it occasionally. I wanted Emily to be able to have that money for herself after she graduates high school. I know that it will serve her well.
As my wolf and I run back towards the apartment complex, things start playing in my mind. She turns 18 today, that means creatures are going to come after her from far and wide. Creatures that I haven’t had to deal with for 18 years. Emily‘s father left when she was just two weeks old so that we wouldn’t have to deal with the council or other packs coming after her. She is a pure blood alpha werewolf, so she has blood that can cast spells witches don’t normally get, and she has blood that tastes richer than any other species or brings to a vampire. Specifically, there is a vampire that hunts pure blood Alpha werewolves so that she can have an endless supply of their blood and have one in her council.
This vampire goes by the name Svetlana. She is the oldest vampire, and she is also a witch. She wished to be immortal, as well as her family. As a witch, she made herself, her husband, and three children vampires. Her sister, also a witch, hated the fact that Svetlana created bloodsucking beasts. To counteract that, she made the village where she lived in werewolves. Setting a spell on vampires that they were not totally immortal, if you drive a wooden stake through there a heart they would with her up and die. To counter her sister, Svetlana set a curse on the werewolf community. The wolf counterpart to the human, would not show up until their 18th birthday and would force the human to shift into wolf form when they gained their wolf. The sisters argued for decades, when eventually the sister passed. When she passed, she became what is known as to the werewolf community, the moon goddess. She mates every werewolf to a different werewolf, and gives pure blood alpha werewolves specific powers in order of what she thinks is necessary.
We arrived at the apartment, just around 4:30 in the morning. This is around the time that Emily‘s alarm usually goes off. Katherine pants but stays low so that Emily does not see us. My wolf is a beautiful gray with a white nose and white tips on her ears. We hide behind the bushes, and just watch as Emily does her morning routine. She walks into the kitchen, and seems to pull out a sticky note. She usually writes me notes in the morning, and I always look forward to them when I get home from work before I head to bed. She just stands there for a minute, staring at the paper.
I wonder what she wrote.
We will find out later. For right now, let’s follow her to work.
Whatever you say. I’m just saying. Her wolf probably won’t pop out until later.
Oh like you waited when I turned 18. You barely let me wake up.
Katherine huffed at me. I just rolled my eyes.
Emily walks out the house, so we crouch down so we are not seen. She begins to jog, which is unusual because she usually walks to work. It is hard to keep up with her and stay hidden, but there aren’t people out this early so we are really only hiding from Emily. Besides, we look like a Husky in the dark to people that don’t get a close enough look. Emily suddenly stops as a man in all black stands on the other side of a crosswalk. Katherine growls but does not advance. Emily just continues to walk past the man and onto work. I get confused by this man, so I follow him instead. He has started to follow Emily, but continues to stay far behind her. I can’t see his face, but something about him seems familiar. People are starting to be on the roads going to work, so I have to start being more careful about people seeing me. Katherine quickly hides behind a parked car on the side of the road as a car passes us. She ducks her head to make sure that the person driving can’t see her. When she looks up, the man is gone. Vanished into thin air. There is a little black bird walking around on the ground, but other than that, no one is even on the sidewalk between us and Emily.
Katherine sniffs around the air to see if there’s even a scent of him, and nothing. All she can pick up on is that bird. Her ears perk up when she hears keys rattling off to her left. Too many people are out now, we have to hide better. Emily will be at work and after what I’ve seen, her wolf won’t show up until later.
Let’s head back to the woods and shift back. Too many people are out this morning.
Great idea.
Just stay low and don’t get caught.
Katherine took off to the woods, careful every so often not to be seen. Once we hit the tree line, there wasn’t anyone to see us so she was in a full on sprint to our area. Something smelled a little off the closer we got. Almost like, blood? Not from an animal, but I could put my finger on it. Then it hit me. The guy from earlier. The one that was following Emily. He was the bird. Some vampires have the ability to shapeshift into birds, others can shift into bats. His scent filled Katherines nostrils, and she came to a sudden halt. We could hear voices come from our spot.
“Could she be living here, sir?” Someone with a British accent said.
“It is not the pure blood that shifts here. She hasn’t gotten her wolf yet. I saw her this morning. This is another wolf. Female with gray fur. Been here recently as I can smell her blood.” A deep male voice said. I assume he’s the guy from earlier.
Katherine looks from around a tree. If only we could grab our clothes, we could get out of here. There are four creatures standing in our shifting spot. I haven’t been in a fight in a really long time, but I know I can still take at least two on. Especially if they are vampires like I thought. One bite from a werewolf will kill a vampire. It will take a while but it will eventually kill them like poison. Katherine growls and she gets ready to fight. We jump into action, ripping apart the first vampire we sink our teeth into. The next one comes running at us with a knife out. He lunges for us, but we crouch down so he misses us with the knife. He loses his balance and we take this advantage to bite his hair and yank as his head comes clean off.
Two down, we can take these two no problem.
Easy for you to say.
Katherine growls once more as the other vampire comes at us. She leaps for her, and bites down hard on her arm. The vampire screams out in pain as her eyes fill with fear. There’s a sudden pain in our side and Katherine yelps.
“Nice to finally meet you, Anna.” The deep voiced man said. His creepy smile is the last thing I saw before everything went black.
