Falling For My BestFriend

Chapter 08

Kevin sighed and shoved his things into his locker before making his way to the cafeteria. He was tired and wanted to go home with Jamesolas and cuddle.

James had promised to hang out after school to make up for yesterday and Kevin was very excited about it. As he walked closer to his usual table he noticed Rex was sitting there too and he and Jamesolas were laughing loudly at something. Kevin frowned and stopped in his tracks. Rex noticed him and waved him over but Kevin only stayed rooted where he was standing.

When Jamesolas turned to look at Kevin he noticed the frown on his best friend's face and got up to comfort him when Kevin suddenly turned around and ran out of the cafeteria.

"Kevin!" Jamesolas yelled and ran after him.

Kevin continued to run until he stopped at an empty hallway and closed his eyes in embarrassment.

He was so so stupid. Why did he run? What was wrong with him?

Jamesolas finally caught up to him and turned Kevin to face him.

"What's wrong?" He asked softly, grabbing Kevin's arm and preventing him from running away again.

"N-nothing." Kevin whispered looking down at his shoes. Jamesolas lifted Kevin's chin and looked into his black eyes with a soft look.

"I know something is wrong. Tell me." He cooed softly, rubbing Kevin's chin with his thumb.

"I don't like it when you laugh and smile with Rex," Kevin mumbled. "I want you to only smile at me."

Kevin was so embarrassed and he knew he sounded like a jealous little kid but he couldn't help it. He thought Jamesolas would be weirded out and tell Kevin how stupid he was being but his best friend only grinned and pulled Kevin into his chest.

"Do you know how adorable you are?" James asked while softly rubbing Kevin's back.

"I know it's stupid and I don't know why I'm feeling like this. I'm sorry." Kevin said while pulling away from the hug and looking down at his shoes.

"It's not stupid. And I'm sorry for making you feel that way. I told you before and I'll tell you again. You're my best best friend and you're the one I want to spend all my time with." James whispered and lent down until their foreheads were connected.

Kevin's eyes widened and his cheek flushed. Hearing Jamesolas say those words while being so close to him made Kevin's heart race.

"I...." he trailed off not knowing what to say.

Say something! His subconscious screamed at him.

Kevin wanted to say something but he couldn't open his mouth. All he could do was stare at his best friend's face. He had a small smile on his face and his green eyes were shining with happiness.

"Come on, let's go back and I'll get you your food yeah?" James said, pulling away and grabbing Kevin's hand to lead him back into the cafeteria.

"Yeah okay." Kevin whispered with blushing cheeks and a hidden smile on his face.

When they got back to their table Jamesolas sat Kevin down before going to get some food for him.

"I'm not gonna steal your man."

Kevin looked at Rex with wide eyes while the latter grinned and ate a strawberry.

"W-what?" Kevin stuttered.

"You don't need to worry about me stealing Jamesolas. He's all yours. He's just my friend. I already have a best friend." He said while putting quotation marks on his best friend.

"Why did you say best friend like that?" Kevin asked as relief filled his body knowing that Rex wasn't trying to become Jamesolas' new best friend.

"My best friend, my girlfriend back in New York." Rex said and Kevin's eyes widened and he felt even more stupid now.

"Y-you have a girlfriend?" Kevin asked, shocked.

"Yeah. Her name's Julie and she's a sweetheart. If only I could be with her." He said and his facial expression completely changed.

"I'm sorry." Kevin murmured and Rex smiled again.

"It's fine. I'm going back to New York for college after this year is done." He said and popped another strawberry in his mouth just as Jamesolas sat down next to Kevin with a platter of food.

"Oh."

Kevin turned to Jamesolas and whispered in his ear why he didn't tell him about Rex having a girlfriend.

"Why does that matter?" James whispered back and grabbed a fry bringing it to Kevin's mouth.

"B-because!" Kevin said after swallowing the fry.

Because then I wouldn't have been so jealous. Because then I'd know that he wasn't after you. Because then I'd know that you're mine and only mine.

Kevin shook his head to get rid of his rather possessive thoughts.

"Here, eat this." He muttered and forked a piece of pasta and led it to Jamesolas' mouth.

"You look like you need some sugar." Rex grinned and slid over his bowl of strawberries to Kevin. "Want one?"

"Oh I don't eat strawberries." Kevin said.

"You're allergic too?" Rex asked curiously.

"No, I just stopped eating them when I found out Jamesolas is allergic." Kevin said and James smiled at the memory of when Kevin first found out about his allergy. He was so adorable.

"Thats..dumb." Rex chuckled and Kevin frowned.

"Shut up." James glared at Rex who shrugged with an amused smile before turning to his best friend and grabbed his hand.

"It's not dumb." He assured with a reassuring smile and Kevin nodded with a small smile that made Jamesolas internally coo at how adorable his Kevin was.

"I'm going Halloween shopping Sunday, wanna come with me?" Rex added with a small smile to get Jamesolas less annoyed with him.

"Me and Kevin are going Saturday. You should find some friends, Rex." Jamesolas snarked and Kevin was happy that he didn't invite Rex to their tradition.

"Whatever, I'll just Facetime Julie and she'll help me." Rex said and kicked Jamesolas under the table.

"Tell her I said hi." Jamesolas said ignoring the slight pain in his leg and Rex rolled his eyes.

"Will do."

It was currently Saturday and Kevin was bouncing on his toes waiting for Jamesolas to pick him to go shopping. He was wearing a light blue sweater that was a tad too big on him but he loved it and blue jeans. His hair was covered by a black beanie as the weather grew colder each day.

Jamesholas finally pulled in the driveway and Kevin ran to the passenger seat and buckled in.

"I'm so excited!" He exclaimed and Jamesolas smiled at him reaching over to fix the beanie over his red ears.

"You should have waited inside its cold." He lightly scolds but Kevin was too busy rambling about the costumes they should buy.

When they arrived at the store Kevin basically ran inside while Jamesolas chuckled and followed behind him, yelling at him to be careful as he almost tripped on air.

Jamesolas entered the store just in time to see Kevin disappear in the costume aisle. He followed and his eyes widened at the revealing costumes he saw.

"Isn't this a girls' aisle?" He asked Kevin while the latter also looked at the rather scandalous costumes. Jamesolas was regretting coming into this specific store but Kevin on the other hand was amazed.

"Can I do this?!" He yelled and showed the costume to Jamesolas.

"How about.." Jamesolas trailed off and looked at the row of costume before grabbing the marching part of the costume.

"You wear this one and I wear that one?" He said and Kevin pouted.

"Why can't I wear that one!" He whined and Jamesolas cupped his face to bring his attention to him.

"You'll be cold and don't you think that one suits you more? You'll look so adorable." Jamesolas said and rubbed his thumb against Kevin's cheek to add to the compelling effect he had on his best friend.

"Fine." Kevin whispered, his cheeks coated with a blush and he bit his lip to contain his smile at the feeling of being so close to James.

Why was he feeling this flustered?

He would ask himself this every time Jamesolas got close to him. When had he started feeling this way? He couldn't remember when it had started but he didn't hate it in fact he loved those moments and he wanted to be attached to Jamesolas all the time.

Staring into Jamesolas's mesmerizing green eyes he wondered if it was normal for him to feel this way. Jamesolas is his best friend so it's only natural to want to spend as much time as he can with him. He's sure there's a lot of other people who feel like him.

Right?

"Come on, let's go pay." Jamesolas said, dropping his hands from Kevin'a face and grabbing the costumes.

When they reached the counter Kevin pulled out his wallet but Jamesolas shot him a look which made him pout and put it back in his bag that he had slung over his shoulders.

"You pay every single year!" He complained and Jamesolas ignored him and paid the lady the money before grabbing Kevin's arm and the bag and leading them out of the story.

"And I'll continue to do so until we're too old for Halloween." James said once they started walking around and looking at the other stores.

"We'll never be too old for Halloween." Kevin replied and James chuckled.

Jamesolas had dropped Kevin's arm and they were now walking side by side. Kevin looked at Jamesolas' hand before glancing around them to see a lot of people holding hands as they walked.

He bit his lip in thought, they don't usually hold hands in public like this but they do it all the time otherwise. Would Jamesolas mind?

But then he remembered the only reason they don't hold hands in public is because Kevin doesn't like attention and the one time they did hold hands people would always glance at them before looking away with a noticeable frown and Kevin hated it. Jamesolas had noticed one day and started to only hold his hands under tables or in private.

Kevin decided that today he wouldn't care if people looked at him. Today he would hold Jamesolas's hand in public. So he did. He moved his hand and grabbed Jamesolas's free one on his own and tightly interwoven them together.

Jamesolas stopped in his tracks and looked at Kevin with wide eyes before looking at their locked hands. Kevin only smiled at him and continued to pull him towards stores. Jamesolas looked at the back of his best friend's head and his face broke into a beam as he tightened his hold on Kevin's hand and followed behind him.

After they roamed the busy streets and bought a few clothes which was mostly Jamesolas getting Kevin a bunch of oversized sweaters for the fall weather and Kevin pouting because James wouldn't let him pay, they walked back to the car and drove towards Jamesolas's home.

When they arrived Kevin started making dinner while Jamesolas finished up on homework.

"Here you go." Kevin said as he set down both of the plates on the coffee table in the living room and opened the tv.

"Close your book and try it! That's my new recipe that I wanted to show you." He said and James closed his books and took a bite into it.

"It tastes heavenly. I'm sorry I couldn't have tried it before." James said after swallowing and Kevin beamed.

"I'm glad you like it! I was scared I was going to mess it up." He said and then dove into his own food.

They watched the action movie as they ate and when they were done Jamesolas wrapped his arms around Kevin's shoulder, pulling him to his chest to cuddle him for the rest of the movie.
