It was Saturday night and Kevin was getting ready for the dinner his mother was hosting. He glanced at his appearance and nodded in approval at his reflection.
He was wearing a dark blue button up with the sleeve rolled up to his elbow and black jeans. His usual messy hair was Jamesely brushed back but he knew once James arrived it would be back to messy again.
He made his way downstairs to help his dad set the table while his mom finished up on dinner.
"It smells delicious mom." Kevin said to his mother who beamed at him.
"Thank you sweetheart."
When the doorbell rang Kevin rushed to the door and opened it to see his big brother and his fiancée. Lee had a light stubble along his jaw and he was in major need of a haircut but still looked handsome next to his beautiful soon to be wife Arabella with her chestnut hair and gorgeous grey eyes.
Kevin immediately crushed his older brother in a bear hug and Lee laughed happily and squeezed Kevin just as tightly.
"I missed you." He said once they pulled away.
"I miss you too." Kevin said and then glanced at Arabella who was looking at them with a soft smile.
"Hi Bella. How've you been?" Kevin asked giving her a small hug.
"I've been great!" She said with a wide grin and Lee glanced at her with a loving gaze that made Kevin want to puke but also awe at the couple and how happy they were.
"Lee!" Kevin's mom yelled and rushed to her eldest son to squeeze him into a hug.
"Oh my baby I missed you so much!" She exclaimed and Kevin quietly chuckled while his dad came as well in the crowded hallway.
"I missed you more mom." Lee said pulling away and kissing his moms cheeks before she rushed to her soon to be daughter in law.
"Welcome home son." Their father greeted his son and gave him a firm pat on his back which made the whole family laugh.
His father only ever showed affection to his wife. And maybe once in a blue moon his sons got a hug or two. It wasn't that their dad was mean in fact he was extremely protective of his family but when it came to affection he got quite awkward with it.
The family settled in the living room and dived in the topic of the upcoming wedding. Kevin was beyond exited for his brother's wedding. He always wondered why they had waited so long but Lee said that he wanted to buy his precious girl a house before marrying her. And he did. He brought her a beautiful home and showed it to her as soon as they came back from the cruise trip.
The doorbell rang once again cutting off the conversation.
"I'll get it!" Kevin exclaimed with a smile and rushed the door to welcome his best friend.
He opened the door and sucked in a sharp breath at the beautiful sight that was James Martinez. He was wearing a black button up very similar to Kevin's and black jeans. His hair was slicked backwards and he had dark shades on hiding his breathtaking eyes. Kevin lifted his hand and slowly removed the shades.
"Where are your glasses?" He breathed out.
"Home. I put on some contacts. Do you like it?" James asked with a small smile as he slightly bent down to look Kevin in the eye.
"Mhmm." Kevin hummed still in a trance as he looked into his best friends eyes.
Were they always this gorgeous?
James chuckled and lifted his hand to ruffle Kevin's hair, just like he expected, and winked at him.
"I like your hair messy better." He whispered, leaning closer to the boy's ear before grabbing his shades from a wide eyed Kevin and walked into the house.
What just happened?
Kevin clutched at his chest, his heart was racing and his stomach was being swarmed with...butterflies?
Kevin was left confused standing on his doorstep wondering why he was feeling this way. He had never felt this way around his best friend before. Then why now? What changed? What is changing?
He took a deep breath and shook his head to get rid of unnecessary thoughts before going back in the living room. He spotted James smiling at something Lee was saying and Kevin felt a smile grow on his face. No matter how closed off and cold James seemed to other people when he was around him and his family James was just a adorable smiley nerd.

As the two families ate and chatted he noticed Lee and Arabella exchanging nervous looks.
"Hey bro what's wrong?" Kevin asked and suddenly all the attention was on the couple who both gulped in nervousness.
"Um." Lee started shooting a side glare at his little brother. "We have something to tell you."
"I'm pregnant." Bella blurted out and everyone's jaws dropped.
Kevin dropped his fork and he sat on his seat with a gaping mouth. The silence on the table made the couple ever more anxious until Kevin stood up so abruptly that his chair fell behind him and ran to his older brother, squishing him in a hug.
"Oh my god! Congratulations! You're going to be a dad! I'm gonna be a freaking uncle!" Kevin exclaimed and Lee laughed hugging his brother back.
Kevin's mom made a sound and when everyone looked at her she had a shocked face and teary eyes.
"Mom?" Lee asked unsure of his mother's reaction.
Surely she should be happy.
"I'm going to be a grandma?" She asked as a tear slipped down her face and Lee's face softened as he walked over to where his mother was sitting and kneeled in front of her.
"Yes mom. You're going to be a grandmother." Lee said and his mother wrapped her arms around her son now fully sobbing as Kevin hugged his soon to be sister in law who was also looking on the verge of crying.
"Thank you." He murmured to her.
"For what?" She asked softly.
"For making my brother so happy. For coming into our lives. For being my sister. And now for giving me a niece or a nephew." He answered and she smiled.
"You're welcome."
Kevin's father also gave his congratulations and smiled so widely while hugging his son that everyone except his wife was left shocked.
James also stood up and congratulated the couple with a bright smile and looked at Kevin with excitement as the images of a baby being a part of the family came to his mind. No one could tell but James loved children especially babies.
Kevin of course knew that fact and found it very...endearing.

After the dinner everyone settled back into their bedrooms for the night and Kevin managed to convince James to sleep over. Of course James didn't actually need convincing but he liked seeing those dark eyes staring at him with a pleading look and those plump lips form into an adorable pout.
They both laid in Kevin's bed, this time James wearing a shirt since it was quite cold in his room.
"James?" Kevin whispered.
"Mhmm?"
"Are you going to bring a date to the wedding?" Kevin softly questioned. The question had been bugging him ever since Lee had jokingly asked James if he wanted a plus one in his invitation card.
"What?" James turned around so he was facing Kevin and looked at him with a confused face. "A date?"
"Yes a date. Since I'll be one of the groomsmen I'll be pretty busy and I figured you'd want to bring someone with you for the ceremony." Kevin filled in.
"Do you want me to bring a date?" James asked with raised eyebrows.
"It's up to you." No
James looked at Kevin with a skeptical face and then shrugged.
"I'm not going to bring a date. And how busy will you be that you won't be able to spend time with me?" James asked with a smile and raised his hand to rest it on Kevin's cheek. Kevin sighed in relief and content and James's smile widened.
"You're right I'll definitely spare you some of my precious time." Kevin said and James chuckled, sliding his best friend closer to him so his head can rest on his arm instead of the pillow.
Kevin smiled into his best friends arm, snuggling closer to his chest. "Goodnight James."
"Goodnight Kevin." James replied and Kevin was sure that he felt a pair of lips press into his head but his brain was already half asleep to question it.
-
The next morning Kevin woke up to screaming.
Loud hysterical screaming.
He shot out of bed to see the spot next to him empty but didn't dwell on it as he ran to his brothers room to him screaming his lungs out as his fiancé laughed on the bed.
"What's wrong?" Kevin asked.
"Snake!" Lee shouted and Kevin's eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
"A snake?"
"There's a f*****g snake in the bathroom!" Lee yelled.
"Dude what's wrong with you?" Kevin said and went to open the bathroom door but before he could he saw James get out of the bathroom and dangle a.. snake in front of him.
"What the hell!" Kevin shouted and backed away from his best friend.
"It's not a snake. It's a toy." James chuckled and threw it at the brothers feet who both yelped and backed away.
"Why does it look so real?" Kevin asked and tentatively moved his foot to nudge the snake.
"Ask Bella." James replied with a chuckle.
"Elijah gave it to me and told me to scare Lee with it because of the time he put a real spider in his shoe." Bella said and Lee turned to glare at her but she gave him a sweet smile that made his face softened.
"I can't believe you betrayed me for your brother in law." Lee muttered crawling back into bed.
"Let's leave." James said and Kevin nodded but he picked up the snake and threw it on the bed before hurrying out of the room, laughing.
"Kevin!" Lee yelled but James had already shut the door and they went back to Kevin's room while he laughed.
"How did you end up there?" Kevin asked once he stopped laughing and they had laid back down in bed.
"I woke up to go to the bathroom when I heard Lee yelled and you were still asleep then. He's been yelling for like five minutes before he forced me to go get the snake." James said while softly laughing.
"He's such a wimp." Kevin said and James looked at him with raised eyebrows.
"You're acting like you weren't scared of it too." He said.
"Whaaat? Me? Scared of a snake? No way!" Kevin said, waving his hands in the air to emphasize what he was saying.
"Mhmm sure b- Kevin sure." James said and Kevin noticed he stumbled over his name.
In fact he did that quite often like he was going to call Kevin something else which was odd right?
