Chapter 1

2035 Words
The nurse’s hands were shaking badly as she looked at the machine and then at the pale man on the bed. “Ms. Keneth, we need to stop the transfusion right now because he won’t survive if this continues,” she said in a trembling voice. Aya did not even turn her head to look at Nathan, because all her attention was on the man lying on the other bed. “Keep going,” she said firmly, her voice cold and without hesitation. “Micheal’s operation is more important, so take his blood and do not stop.” The machine beside Nathan made a sharp beeping sound that grew faster with every passing second, and the steady flow of blood leaving his body made his vision blur. Nathan felt the cold spread through his body, but the pain in his chest felt even colder than the air in the room. His fingers trembled weakly, and his lips had already lost their color, yet the three women standing around him did not notice any of it. Aya Keneth, Vivian Hebrew, and Ava Golden stood close to Micheal’s bed, their faces filled with worry and fear. These were the same women who once smiled brightly at him and spoke gently to him every day, and one of them had even stood beside him as his bride not long ago. Yet now, their eyes were only on Micheal Park. “Micheal, you will be fine, so do not worry,” Vivian said softly as she held his hand tightly. Ava wiped her tears and forced a small smile. “We are all here with you, and we will not let anything happen to you.” Nathan looked at them quietly, and a faint smile appeared on his pale face, but it carried no warmth. His body began to shake more violently as the weakness spread, and he struggled to gather enough strength to speak. “Clara… you need to stop this now because Micheal is going to die if this continues, and I can still hold on for a while,” Nathan said slowly, his voice hoarse and weak. As soon as he finished speaking, a sharp pain struck his chest, and he began coughing hard, his body bending slightly from the force. The women turned toward him for a brief moment, but their expressions only showed impatience instead of concern. “Do not listen to him, Micheal,” Aya said quickly as she looked back at Micheal with worry. “Your condition is the most important thing right now.” “We will save you no matter what happens,” Ava added without hesitation. Nathan felt something inside him grow cold and empty, and for a moment, he forgot how to breathe. He slowly turned his head and looked toward Micheal. Their eyes met. Micheal’s lips curved into a faint smile, but there was no kindness in it, because it was filled with pride and quiet mockery. That look alone said everything Nathan needed to understand. It clearly told him that the women he once believed loved him would rather take his life just to save Micheal. Nathan closed his eyes slowly, and the pain in his heart felt deeper than anything his body could feel. At that moment, he finally accepted the truth he had been trying to ignore. He had never been the one they truly loved. --- Three years ago, everything in Nathan’s life changed in a single night. He had been framed for something he did not do, and the person behind it was powerful enough to crush him without effort. When he tried to defend himself, no one believed him, and even his own family chose to abandon him without a second thought. He was beaten badly and left on the cold street, his body covered in wounds and his breath growing weaker with every passing moment. Rain poured down heavily that night, soaking his clothes and washing the blood from his skin, and he truly believed that his life would end there. However, just when he had lost all hope, three figures appeared before him. Aya Keneth, Vivian Hebrew, and Ava Golden stood in the rain like a miracle he did not expect. They saved him and took him away from that place, and from that day on, his life began to change. Aya’s parents welcomed him into their home and treated him like their own son, giving him a new identity and a new life. Nathan George became Nathan Keneth. For the next three years, he lived in a world filled with warmth and care, and he believed that he had finally found a place where he truly belonged. The three women stayed by his side, supported him, and filled his days with laughter and comfort. They treated him like he was someone precious, and slowly, he gave his heart to them without holding anything back. Nathan worked hard to repay their kindness, and he used his abilities to help the Keneth family business grow stronger. Aya’s parents grew to trust him deeply, and they eventually decided to give their daughter’s hand in marriage to him. On the day of the wedding, Vivian and Ava stood beside him with smiles on their faces. Vivian told him that she would remain single for the rest of her life for his sake, and Ava said the same without hesitation. Nathan believed their words completely, because at that time, everything felt real to him. He truly thought he had found love, family, and a future. But everything changed when Micheal returned. Micheal Park, the person they had been waiting for all along, came back into their lives without warning. He looked weak and pale, and his voice was filled with exhaustion when he spoke. He told them that he only had six months left to live. That single sentence shattered everything Nathan had built in his heart. The three women lost their calm immediately, and their entire world began to revolve around Micheal. They stayed by his side day and night, and their attention slowly moved away from Nathan until he became almost invisible. It was at that moment that Nathan finally understood the truth he had failed to see before. When he looked closely at Micheal, he noticed how similar they were in appearance, and even their blood types were exactly the same. Everything suddenly made sense to him. He realized that he had never been chosen because of who he was, but because he could replace someone else. He had been taken in, cared for, and even loved for one simple reason. He was useful. He was a replacement. After that realization, the way the three women treated him changed completely. Whenever Micheal needed them, they would leave Nathan without hesitation, no matter what the situation was. Even on his birthday, they left him alone just because Micheal made a single call. There was even a time when Micheal complained about him, and they forced Nathan to apologize in front of others in the most humiliating way. Nathan endured everything in silence, because a part of him still hoped that things might return to how they once were. However, as he lay on the hospital bed now, feeling his life slowly fade away with every drop of blood taken from him, that last bit of hope finally disappeared. --- Aya’s voice trembled as she looked at the doctor with desperate eyes. “Please take more of his blood because Micheal must live no matter what happens.” Vivian nodded quickly and said, “Nathan will be fine, so you do not need to worry about him.” Ava wiped her tears again and added, “Just save Micheal, please.” The excessive loss of blood finally hit Nathan with full force, and it felt like a heavy hammer crashing down on his body again and again until he could barely hold himself together. His vision became blurry, and everything around him started spinning as if the world had lost its balance. His body shook uncontrollably, and his fingers twitched as the last of his strength slowly slipped away. However, the three women misunderstood his condition completely, and instead of seeing his pain, they thought he was trying to escape. Before Nathan could even react, they rushed forward and held him down firmly on the bed. “You are not going anywhere until you have given Micheal enough blood,” Aya said coldly as she pressed his shoulder down without hesitation. Vivian grabbed one of his arms tightly, while Ava held his legs to stop him from moving. Nathan felt a wave of despair wash over him, and it was so strong that it almost drowned him completely. His body convulsed more violently than before, and his eyes slowly turned red from the strain and pain. He wanted to scream, to beg them to stop, to tell them that he could not take it anymore, but before he could even make a sound, Aya’s hand suddenly gripped his throat tightly in her panic. That single action nearly cut off his breath. Nathan’s mouth opened slightly, but no sound came out as he struggled to breathe. The machine continued its cold, steady work. Eight hundred cubic centimeters. Then one thousand. Then more. The numbers kept rising without mercy. --- More and more blood was taken from Nathan’s body, and as time passed, the machines suddenly began to make loud and sharp warning sounds. “That is nearly half of his blood volume, and he is already in shock, so stop the transfusion immediately,” the doctor shouted with urgency. The nurses froze for a moment, and when they looked at Nathan, their faces filled with horror. The man who once looked full of life now appeared completely drained, and there was not even a trace of color left on his face. He looked less like a living person and more like a lifeless statue carved from cold stone. The room fell into chaos as the nurses cried out in shock, and their voices echoed in the tense air. Startled by the sudden change, the three women finally let go of Nathan. When they saw his pale face and motionless body, their hearts began to beat faster, but it was not enough to make them stay. The doctor quickly gave the next order. “We can begin Mr. Herrison’s operation now, so prepare everything immediately.” Without a moment of hesitation, the three women turned and rushed toward Micheal’s side. Aya did not even look back as she spoke to her assistant in a calm but firm tone. “Take him away and give him the best supplements, and make sure he has enough blood for the next transfusion.” The assistant lowered her head respectfully and replied, “Yes, Ms. Keneth, I will take care of everything.” Her voice was steady, but her heart trembled deeply. She had worked for the Keneth family for a long time, and she knew very well how much the heiresses once cared about Nathan. They had always been careful with him, and they never allowed too much blood to be taken from him before. But today, everything was different. They did not stop. They did not hesitate. And all of it was for Micheal. The thought alone made her chest feel heavy. Because she knew that what happened today had nearly taken Nathan’s life. --- Nathan remained unconscious for several days, and during that time, he lay quietly in the hospital room without any sign of movement. The world outside continued as usual, but for him, everything was still and silent. Finally, his fingers moved slightly, and his eyes slowly opened. His vision was still unclear at first, but as it gradually focused, he realized that someone was sitting beside his bed. It was Aya’s assistant. She had been taking care of him the entire time. Nathan gathered what little strength he had left and pushed himself up slowly, even though his body felt weak and heavy. His voice came out dry and soft, but it carried a trace of urgency. “Where is Aya?”
