Believe Me

Uggh! I really hate Mondays! I sluggishly walked to my locker. I struggled to remember my locker combination, but I finally did. I swung my locker door open and a white slip of paper fluttered out. I bent down to pick it up. It read: Will you go out with me tonight? -J

That instantly brought a smile to my face

“So will you?” I turned to see Jared

“But it’s a Monday” I said.

“Come on! I already have it all planned it out. Please!” He said cheerfully.

“Only because the way you asked me out was really sweet!” I said tucking the note in my pocket. He smiled

“You liked it? I thought it was really cheesy!” I shook my head.

“No! It wasn’t! You slightly brightened up my morning! I could kiss you!” I said slightly pushing him.

“Well, well, well, Ashely woods volunteered to kiss me! Hmmm, never though that would happen” He said crossing his arms.

“I never thought you would think of something so sweet.” I said getting the rest of the books out of my locker.

“I guess we were both surprised this morning” He said laughing

“I guess so!” I said closing my locker

“See you later?” He said grabbing my hand, his hazel yes penetrating mine.

“Yea” I replied nodding. He got a few steps away before turning around

“Oh and you can have that kiss whenever you like” He said suggestively. I blew him a kiss before grabbing my books and walking to my 1st Period. I saw Gabby sitting in my desk waiting for my arrival. As soon as she saw me she got up and gave me a hug.

“Hello Hun! How was your morning?” She sat in her seat and I sat in mine.

“It was absolutely awful until a couple of minutes ago” I said opening up my book.

“What happened?” She asked digging into her purse for a writing utensil.

“Well I walked into school all sluggish like I normally do on Monday mornings. I opened my locker and a note fell out.” I said nonchalantly.

“Ooh! Let me see the note.” I gave her the note and she read it fast

“Is J who I think he is?” She said smiling.

“Yup, I read the note and he came up behind me and said ‘So will you?’ and I was all reluctant since it’s a school night, but I decided to. Only because the way he asked me out was the sweetest thing ever! I told him that and he thought it was cheesy, but it wasn’t and I told him I could kiss him.” I said stuffing the note back in my pocket.

“Did you?” She asked smirking.

“No, but he was very willing of letting me!” I said laughing.

“Of course he was! Look at those lips! Who wouldn’t want them?” She said while I applied my lip-gloss.

“Yes my lips are very attractive.” I said puckering them.

“You can say that again” I heard someone say from behind me. I turned to him smirking.

“Jared, what are you doing here?” I asked turning fully around.

“You dropped this. I thought you might need it” He handed me my notebook

“Thanks, I don’t know what I would do if I were to lose this” I said gratefully taking the notebook.

“Well now you don’t have too” I smiled “So see you tonight?”

“Mhmm” I said putting the notebook on my desk.

“I’ll pick you up at 6. Oh and wear something you don’t mind getting a little wet.” He said smiling holding his own notebook closer to his body. Wet? I raised my eyebrow before noticing the time.

“Yea ok. Now go before you’re late for class” I said shooing him.

“Fine, bye beautiful.” He said winking and dashing away.

The food they serve here for lunch is probably better than what they serve anywhere else. The lunch line is moving pretty quick today.

“Hello sweetheart, what would you like?” The sweet lunch lady asked.

“Hi Mrs. Kay, I guess I’ll have a burger and some fries.” I said smiling. Perks of going to a rich, private school.

“Fries and a burger coming right up” I waited a couple of minutes and got my food. I moved through the line and picked up a bag of chips and a bottle of coke.

“Anything else?” The cashier asked me.

“Nope that’s all” I told him shaking my head.

“That would be $10.59.” He said calculating it. I handed him a 20 and got the change before heading to my table.

“OMG! Gabby told us that you got asked out by Jared Taylor!” Liz said before shoving a fry in her mouth.

“It’s not that big of a deal right Ash?” Em asked looking up at me. And this is why I love Emily! She is the only, not completely girly girl in this school. Em just got back from her week in Georgia visiting family, which is why she really hasn’t herd anything that’s going on.

“Yes, it’s not a big deal!” I said looking at her.

“Not a big deal? You should’ve seen the way they were flirting this morning!” Gabby said winking at me.

“I can’t even begin to think that Ash would actually say yes to that thing much less flirt with him in public! Let’s take this one step at a time! Please explain and let Ashely be the only one talking!” Em said before looking at me. I glanced over at Jared. Who was looking at me, I signaled for him to meet me in the hallway.

“I’ll explain in a minute. I need to use the bathroom.” I rushed out of the cafeteria into the hallway. I stood there for a couple of second before Jared joined me.

“What?” he looked at my face and softened up “What’s wrong?”

“They’re asking questions.” I groaned.

“What kind?” He asked.

“They want me to explain how I started liking you enough to say yes to your date request. Emily doesn’t believe any of it. I mean, I guess I get where she’ coming from. Just Friday I hated you.” I said leaning against the wall.

“Yea well neither does Jake” He said coming next to me.

“Well he’s the most like you.” I said tuning my head to face him.

“And she’s the most like you.” He said looking at me. We both cracked a small smile before loosing it.

“Well I guess we have a challenge on our hands.” I said pushing off the wall.

“Yea, here’s what you do. Talk about me as if I’m a bad boy with a sweet heart. You know the ones who are tough on the outside and soft on the inside. And I’m funny!” He said smiling.

“Ok, so you talk about me as if I’m a nice girl with a bad side. And I’m funny!” I said.

“Are you ready for this?” He asked walking towards the door.

“Yea, are you?” I said walking towards him.

“Yea. Let’s do this.” I walked through the door and back to my table

“So are you going to talk or what?” Em asked.

“Yea Em. Ok so it all started when we went to the beach. He came over and helped with our stuff and everything. Then when I went over to give him back his sunglasses and he said to keep them because they look better on me anyway. I thought that was soo nice. I know it’s a lot for one day, but everything I thought of him changed. On Sunday he texted me and we talked the whole day, transitioning from texting to talking on the phone. It was nice. Then this morning the way he asked me out was the cutest thing ever. He slipped a note in my locker asking me to go out with him tonight. Then he came behind me and was like ‘so will you?’ and I said yes. And I told him only because the way he asked me was the sweetest thing ever. And he thought it was cheesy, but I told him I could kiss him. Then when he came into my class to return my notebook, he flirted with me telling me I had attractive lips. He’s just I don’t know. I think I might like him.” I lied on that last part. Gabby looked like she was in love, Liz looked like I was getting married, and Em looked like she was about to puke. At least she looked a little less like she was going to puke than before. Convincing her is not going to be easy. You can do it. I wonder how Jared is doing with Jake.

“So what’s he like?” Liz asked with a dreamy glance

“He’s a bad boy with a sweet heart. You know those guys who seem tough but are really soft on the inside. He’s really nice and really funny! Wow I can’t believe I’m actually saying this, but it’s true. He’s really something else and he thinks of the most weird things.” Like this fake relationship.

“You really can’t be serious!” Em seems like she begging me. Or like she’s stuck in a really bad nightmare.

“What do you mean?” I asked biting into my burger.

“I mean you can’t be serious! Just the other day you hated the kid and now you like him. I don’t believe it.” And with that she got up and walked out of the cafeteria

“I’ll go after her” I got up, took a quick glance at Jared (in which he replied with a reassuring smile) and went after her.

“Emily” I said softly. She didn’t turned around

“What?” She asked stopping, but not facing me.

“Wow! What did I do?” I asked sadly.

“You started to like him! That’s what you did!” She said turning to face me.

“What?” I asked confused.

“You and I were the only two who did not like him! Or any of his other minions. We were not under the bad boy spell! Now you are!” She said waving her hands around.

“I know, but I got to know him and if his friends are anything like him, they aren’t so bad.” I said taking a couple steps towards her.

“You really believe that?” She asked raising an eyebrow.

“Yea, I really do.” I said nodding.

“I need to meet him.” She said crossing her arms.

“You already have.” I said laughing.

“No, I need to meet the him you like.” She said not responding to my laughter.

“When?” I asked.

“Tomorrow after your date and you have to tell me all about it.” She said cracking a smile before linking arms with me and walking back into the cafeteria.
