It was only a matter of time till Jared and I had a big argument. That happened a few days ago. The whole argument was about a bruise. He had a bruise… I wanted to know where it was from… he got mad. Well today is his birthday and the day he is supposed to ask me to be his girlfriend. He told me he had something good planed for it.
“Hey.” He said coming up to me.
“Hi.” I said plainly.
“You’re supposed to like me right now.” He said looking at me.
“I know.” I said flatly with my back still to him.
“Then can you look at me?” He asked getting frustrated.
“Fine!” I turned to face him and he was a lot closer than I had thought. “Happy?”
“Do you have to be such a b***h all the time?” He whispered angrily.
“Wow. So now I’m a b***h?” I said sarcastically.
“Yea, you overreact about everything!” He said getting madder.
“Me? You’re the one who got mad at me for asking about a bruise!” I said angrily.
“Don’t worry about it!” He said plainly.
“What do you mean don’t worry about it? Jared, if you’re in any trouble you can tell me.” I said softer.
“Why do you care so much? This IS just a deal! So just DROP it!” He walked away. That jackass walked away from me!
“JARED!” I slammed my locker closed and angrily walked to my 5th period.
“What’s wrong?” Emily asked sweetly.
“Nothing Em.” I said angrily.
“Don’t you f*****g lie to me. What did he do?” She said trying to push it out of me.
“He… it’s just… I… we got into an argument.” I said finding the right words.
“About what?” She said crossing her arms.
“Nothing really. Just stupidness. I’m sure we’ll make up by the end of the day.” I said smiling.
“Of course.” She said returning my smile.
Music thumping, bodies moving, drinks spilling is the effect of Jared’s almighty 17th birthday. I’m going to need a couple more drinks so I can survive the night. Jared took hold of the mike. Oh great… here it comes. I downed my cup of yummy pink alcohol and placed it on a table.
“Excuse me. I just wanna thank everyone for coming. I have something to say. So there’s this girl, right? She and I used to argue all the time. Then something happened and I started getting these feelings for her. I knew it was wrong so I tried to hide it. I kept giving her mixed signals so she’d just give up on me and I could push away these feelings. I really like her, but there are so many things about me. So much bad things about me that could scare her off. Well you see, just the other day we got into an argument about something she really doesn’t need to worry about because I don’t want her to get hurt. So she doesn’t like me very much right now. Then I realized, if she spent this much time with me without running off, maybe just maybe, she never will. I’m willing to take that chance if she is. I got a lot of amazing gift today, but if she were to be my girlfriend that would be the best gift ever. I mean EVER! So, Ashely woods, will you be the best gift I ever have and become my girlfriend?” That was the most beautiful thing I have ever heard in my life. My hands covered my wide smile as I slowly nodded my head. He walked up to me a gave me a hug
“Did you like it?” he asked whispering in my ear.
“Yea.” I said still in shock.
“Good.” He pulled out of the hug and kissed me. “Enjoy the party.” He placed the mike on a table and led me out side to his lake. “I had to get out of there for a second.”
“I get it. I went to class angry after our argument and Em asked me what was wrong. I told her we got into an argument. Of course she asked what about, so I told her stupidness. I said nothing about the bruise. I figured if you didn’t even want me to know about it, you wouldn’t want others to either.” I told him lacing our fingers together.
“You did that?” He asked looking at me.
“Yea, but why won’t you tell me?” I asked softly.
“Believe me, it’s really bad. You might not agree to do this anymore if you hear about this.” He said shaking his head and looking away from me.
“Can you promise me something?” I asked bringing his face to look at me.
“Anything.” He said seriously.
“If it gets worse, I mean anything more than 1 bruise, you come to me right away.” I said equally serious
“I promise.” He said nodding.
“Also you have to tell me right now if you have anything else wrong with you other than the bruise on your arm.” He stared at me “Right now Jared! Right now!” I lifted up his shirt and showed me two bruises on his stomach and one on his back. I stepped closer to him and placed my fingers gently on top of it. “Damnit Jared! f*****g Damnit! Oh my gosh! Jared why didn’t you tell me this be-” he placed his lips on mine and pulled me closer. Just as the kiss was about to get intense, he pulled out. His face was still close to mine and our lips touched slightly when he spoke.
“Please, just don’t. Drop it. For me?” he pecked my lips. “Please?” he kissed me again. And again. And again.
“Ok. I’ll drop it. You’re going to have to tell me one day.” I said looking into his hazely brown eyes.
“Yea, when the time is right.” He pecked my lips “I have to get back to the party.”
“Ok”
“I’ll see you later! Don’t leave.” He said gripping my waist.
“I won’t.” I said smiling.
“Ok, see ya.” He said still holding onto me.
“Jared, go!” I said pushing him.
“But I don’t wanna!” He whined.
“It’s your party!” I said laughing.
“I know, but hosting is so much work because everyone wants to talk to me.” He whined again.
“You’re the birthday boy!” I said patting his chest.
“I know!” He said.
“Now go!” I said pushing him again.
“Ugh fine!” He said letting go of me.
“Don’t sound too upset.” I said teasingly while he walked back into the house; I followed behind a few minutes later.
“I hate hosting parties.” He said while plopping on the couch. Everyone was gone and we were alone.
“I know you do. Well I should be heading home.” I said grabbing my bag.
“No, stay with me.” He said taking my bag from me.
“Why?” I said tilting my head.
“Because I want you to and we have to plan out where we are going from here.” He said slowly.
“Can you carry me?” I asked smiling.
“Does this mean you’re staying?” He asked excited.
“Yes” I nodded
“Ok” he lifted me up bridal style and carried me up his party house’s stairs. Yes the boy actually has a house just for having parties. Only his close friends have ever been to his real house. I never really thought about it till now. He threw me on the bed and jumped on top of me.
“You like it rough?” I asked looking up at him.
“How did you know?” He asked smirking.
“Just a guess.” He pecked my lips before rolling off of me. I kneeled over him.
“Ok, so where do we go from here?” He asked looking up at me.
“Well we have to go through the honeymoon phase. Then we get into a really big fight, which shouldn’t be hard for us. Make up. Keep going for however long, with a few arguments here and there. Then BOOM our big break up!” I said over exaggerating the boom.
“You’ve really thought this through” He said smiling.
“Yea.” I said nodding.
“So when are we breaking up?” He asked placing his hands behind his head.
“I don’t know. When do you want to?” I said sitting on him.
“It has to be longer than a month.” He said.
“Why?”
“Personal goal.”
“There’s a lot of thing you’re not telling me and I don’t like it.”
“I told you I would tell you when the time is right!”
“When will the time be right?”
“It depends.”
“On what?”
“The situation!”
“Fine.”
“Your upset aren’t you?”
“Yes.”
“Don’t be upset!” he pulled me closer and kissed me.
“But…” kiss “But…” kiss “But…” kiss “But…” He started on my neck. “Jared…”
“You still upset?” the vibration tickled my neck.
“Yes.” He went higher and lower and higher. Then back to my lips. I gave in and kissed back. He pulled out.
“You are so much harder than my other exes!”
“Haha! That’s what she said!” he stared at me for a couple of seconds before laughing.
“No you didn’t! You didn’t just say that!” He asked still laughing.
“Yes I did” I said proud.
“So the princess is perverted? Didn’t see that coming!” He said laughing again.
“There’s a lot you don’t know about me.” I said smiling
“That makes two of us.” I saw a look of pain in his eyes.
“I get it now.”
“Get what?”
“Why you won’t tell me about you. It’s really that bad isn’t it?”
“Worse than anything you can ever imagine.”
“You think I’m going to quit this whole thing because of it?”
“Yes I do.”
“I doubt it.”
“You can’t say that.”
“You don’t know me! You don’t!”
“I know!” I laid down on his chest I felt him wince.
“Jared?”
“Don’t …” I quickly unbuttoned his shirt. I saw a huge bruise on the right part of his chest. It was new. I knew what a new bruise looked like and it was new.
“Damnit Jared! You promised!” I ran out of the room and downstairs.
“Ashely wait.” He ran after me.
“NO!” I reached the door as he reached me.
“Please don’t leave.” He said closing the door and bringing me closer o him.
“You promised.” I said sadly.
“I know I’m sorry. I’m so sorry. Please forgive me.” He pulled me into a hug.
“You’re a f*****g good pretend boyfriend! I hate you!” I said into his chest.
“You’re a f*****g good pretend girlfriend! You hate me right now, I get it! Please don’t leave.”
“Go upstairs and take off your shirt.” I saw him smirking, which made me start smiling, but I forced myself to stop. “Don’t get any ideas.”
“Too late.” He made his way up the stairs. I went into the kitchen and bowled some water. I got some rags and a bowl. I poured the hot water into the bowl and added a few ice cubes to cool it down just a tiny bit. I carried it upstairs to the awaiting Jared. I placed the bowl on his side table. I dipped the rags in it; wringed them out a bit, and placed it on his bruises. He winced a bit.
“It’s going to hurt a bit but the bruise will be down by the morning.”
“What are you doing?”
“I’m breaking down the bruise. A bruise is just a blood clot. That’s why it turns the color it does. If you place heat on it, the blood clot breaks up. Which mean the blood starts flowing again. If you leave it untreated it can cause serious damage. That’s why I told you to tell me! You’re such a little jackass! I hate you!”
“I know.”
“And you keep putting it off not giving me an explanation!”
“I know.”
“And I try to help you! I tell you that you can tell me! I tell you we are in it together and you still hide thing from me!”
“I know.”
“If we’re going to make this work you’re going to have to be completely honest with me.”
“I know!”
“I don’t care how long it takes you to finally tell me what’s going on, but you should know that I’m not going to give up on you!”
“I know.
“Why do you keep saying ‘I know’?”
“I don’t know!”
“You frustrate me!”
“Can I ask you something?”
“Fine!”
“How do you know so much about this stuff? And why are you so defensive when you see me with bruises?” of all questions you had to ask me that one. “I get it. I have my secret you have yours.”
“I’ll tell you when the time is right.” I put the rags back in the bowl then cuddled up next to him.
“I’m sorry.”
“I know.”
