On a different day, Selena would have dismissed the fast-moving shadow as a figment of her imagination but today she didn't. She was sure it was there just a moment ago. The hairs on her arm stood erect, revealing the sea of goosebumps that had formed on her skin. She couldn't have imagined all of it. Someone was there.
She quickly returned the books to the shelves and placed her paper into backpack before hurriedly making her way out of the library. The curious stare she got from the new librarian as she breezed past was the least of her worries. She couldn't care what a stranger thought when creepy shadows were moving around her. The best course of action was to get the hell out of the library.
Selena turned around constantly to see if any person or shadow was following her as she walked back to her dorm. There were a few pockets of college students here and there, nothing surprising for a campus. Night crawlers was what they were called in Campus vocab. The term was used to refer to students who remained outside in the dead of the night. It was normal, but today it creeped her out.
"Don't tell me you're letting the fables from those books get to you."
Selena smiled at the thought and continued walking. Her intuition was right. She was scaring herself for no real reason. There was clearly no shadow stalking her.
When Selena got back to her dorm, she looked around one last time. Still, there was no shadow. It was just her standing in front of her door. She turned the knob to see if it was open. It wasn't. That meant Alex was either asleep already or he still wasn't back. If the latter was the case, she had a 'you're getting carried away with campus life' speech ready to dish out to him when he finally returned.
Selena took her keys out of her backpack and opened the door. Turning the light switch on revealed the most horrific image she had ever seen in her life. Alex was lying on her bed, bloodied and dead. There was a single, large s***h to his neck, obviously made by a knife or another very sharp object.
Selena let out the loudest scream of terror her hostel had ever heard.
